Read an exclusive excerpt from 'Extinct' by Nancy Adams

EXTINCT
by Nancy Adams

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Theo’s sole purpose for the last ninety-eight years was to protect his wolf. That changed the moment he met Drew and the wolf called ‘Mate’.
Carrying the soul of an extinct wolf alongside your own isn’t easy. Swapping into said wolf is even harder. Ask Theo Grey—he’s been doing it for ninety-eight years. Yet, after surviving two world wars, witnessing the space race and patiently enduring the eighties, you’d think he’d have seen it all, but nothing could have prepared him for meeting Tofino’s new vet, Drew O’Bannion and according to the wolf, his mate.
Drew loves her dog, sleeping in and coffee. She also loves being a vet. The main reason behind her accepting the veterinarian practice offered to her from a family friend. Hoping for a slower pace at life Tofino seemed the ideal spot. What she didn’t expect was Officer Theo Grey. Theo is tall, dark and drop dead gorgeous, a definite 10 on the ‘wow’ scale. Regardless of his looks, there is more to Theo, there is her unexpected attraction for him. It’s unnerving and completely out of character for her, but she is able to match Theo’s hungry kiss, for hungry kiss.
With their desire growing at an alarming rate and the threat of an unknown shooter roaming the woods of the coastal town, Theo must face the ultimate decision—let Drew go for her own safety or claim his mate for all time.
Reader Advisory: This story contains scenes of violence and threats of non-consensual sex.
Read an excerpt:
The wolf swung around to face her. Drew couldn’t help but step back again, but it followed, keeping a distance. Its eyes were full of interest as well as intelligence.
When she stopped, it stopped. “Oh, man! I wish I thought to bring my cell. I could call Hottie Cop Theo. He could come and rescue me. I bet he would love that.” She stopped the high laugh before it escaped.
She studied the beast, then blurted out. “That was…fucking scary.” She cringed. She was in the presence of a wolf. The volume of her voice might set him off. “You’re fucking scary.” She lowered her voice. “Beautiful, but scary.”
The wolf carefully sat and stared at her.
OMG. This beast had just saved her from the other wolves. She had never heard of anything like that before. Yeah! her inner voice chimed in. He saved you so he doesn’t have to share his meal. She frowned, then bit her bottom lip. “Holy shit, I can’t believe you just did that.” It cocked its head to the side as if it understood every word. “Holy shit, I can’t believe I’m talking to a wolf.”
They stared at each other as minutes passed. In that time she really had a good look at him and a feeling grew that she had seen this animal before. But not running wild—she had seen pictures of this brute, old black and white photos on the Internet and in books. Normally it would be a pain trying to examine a black animal at night, yet thanks to the moon she was able to see the same distinct traits as a—
“That can’t be.” She narrowed her eyes. “Oh my God! You’re not just any wolf. You’re a BC wolf.” She took a slow, deep breath. “You’re supposed to be extinct, my friend.”
'Blind Mercy (Blind Series #2)' by Violetta Rand
Historical Romance
Date Published:
2/12/2014
The Sigurdsson family legacy continues…
A woman who prayed for a hero…
Orphaned at a young age, Rachelle Fiennes prayed for a hero to rescue her from her tragic life in England. When her only kinsman goes missing after the Battle of Stamford Bridge, Rachelle braves the aftermath of the battlefield to find him.
A man who lost everything…
Damned by the gods for surviving the bloodiest defeat in Norse history, Jarl Tyr Sigurdsson is still determined to get home. Hiding until nightfall so he can escape to his ship, his dangerous endeavor is disrupted when he’s accidently discovered by a beautiful Saxon.
Brought together by war, Rachelle and Tyr face many obstacles. Can sworn enemies find peace through love, or will fate tear them apart?
Read an excerpt:
Since the first day they’d met, Tyr had been embroiled in strife and violence. Standing in this holy place, he seemed vulnerable, almost normal. Only once before had she seen this level of tenderheartedness in him. The degree of compassion he showed his deceased brother when he prepared him for funeral rites still haunted her. Of course, what man wouldn’t be moved by such tragedy? This was decidedly different. Baffled by this transformation, she watched him closely.
“I thank you for this kindness.”
He embraced her. The motivation behind his touch had changed, she felt it.
“I swear on this holy ground, I’ll never hurt you again,” he said.
He’d pledged it before. Could she be foolish enough to believe again? Didn’t he understand she couldn’t get past the fact he was holding her for ransom? Could she ever really forgive him for deceiving and shaming her? Caution did little to help her cause. Jolts of lust shot through her. It felt wonderful to be touched by him; but as welcome as those feelings were, they must stay hidden forever.
“I want to believe you,” she said.
He tipped her head upward. “I make no promises I can’t keep,” he assured her. “If there’s anything I can do to ease your pain, ask me.”
She remained silent. Somewhere in the recesses of her mind, a place existed where happy thoughts thrived. She pictured how it would be if he dropped on his knees and declared his love. All of this was quickly swept aside.
“I’ll leave you now,” he announced. “My men are aware of your situation and will not disturb your observances. When you are ready, they will escort you back to the house.”
WILDE RIDERS (An Old Town Country Romance)
FOUR WILDE BROTHERS…ONE WILDE COUNTRY BAND
WILDE RIDERS is the first novel in a spicy new contemporary romance series about four sexy brothers, their small-town bar and their local country band. WILDE RIDERS can be read as a STAND ALONE NOVEL or as part of the SERIES.
Cooper Wilde spent his entire adolescence counting the days until he could escape rural northwest New Jersey. Now at 26, he can’t believe he’s coming back. But his late father’s bar, Haymakers, is in financial trouble and his older brother, Jake, has asked for Cooper’s help.
Riley Smith, 25, is fresh out of her Ivy League MBA program and wants to make an impression on her employer, H & C Bank. Her first solo assignment is a fraud investigation on a business loan they made to Haymakers.
Even though Old Town is less than 90 minutes from New York City, Riley feels like she’s stepped into another world in this remote, one-bar town. Riley can’t wait to do her business and get back to the city as quickly as her sports car will take her…until she meets Cooper Wilde. He’s not like the other guys in this rural town and Riley feels inexplicably attracted to him.
EXCERPT
The drive into New Jersey is exhausting. My only saving grace is that most of the traffic is going into the city instead of out of the city like I am.
You’ve got to love those bridge and tunnel guys. I wouldn’t date one but I have a little bit of respect for them. The commute into Manhattan turns a nine hour work day into an eleven hour one, if you’re lucky.
I can feel my stomach start to knot as I get further away from the city and further away from civilization. Pretty soon I’ll be in the sticks surrounded by woods and farmland. I can almost smell the manure that will no doubt take days to completely rid from my nasal passages. I pray that I don’t run into any animals, especially cows, which are huge, smelly and completely freak me out. The only live animals I ever care to see have to fit comfortably in a handbag, like a Chihuahua or Teacup Poodle, for example.
I have an appointment with a man named Jake Wilde. He asked me to come early, before the place opens at noon, so he can give me his full attention. I try to imagine what someone named Jake Wilde would look like and all I can come up with is an old gunslinger like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven.
As I pull into Old Town the place looks exactly like I thought it would. The buildings in the town square are old and I image the place hasn’t changed much in the last hundred years or so.
Haymakers is just past the town square, down the hill from the deli, next to the gas station. Those were the exact directions I was given, in those words. I take that to mean the town only has one gas station and one deli.
When I pull into the parking lot, there’s only one other vehicle sitting there. It’s an old beat-up Dodge Ram. Nothing like fitting the country bumpkin stereotype like a glove. Then I have a brief moment of panic and wonder if it’s safe to park my BMW in the dirt lot. Then I remind myself where I am. Who is going to mess with it in the middle of the day? A stray deer from the woods out back? The only thing I probably have to worry about is it getting dusty.
I take in a deep breath. I have to be thankful there’s no manure smell yet.
The quicker you do this, I remind myself, the quicker you can get back to the lovely asphalt jungle you call home.
I’m hit with a gust of wind as soon as I get out of my car. How is it possible that Old Town is even windier than lower Manhattan? I didn’t think I’d ever find a place windier than Wall Street. Even the Windy City didn’t seem this windy when I had business in Chicago.
When I enter the bar, I try to smooth down my thick hair, which I know is probably a complete mess from the gust. I’m surprised by the homey feel of the place. How could someone like me possibly feel at home in a country bar? Even if I was wearing jeans and cowboy boots, if I even owned jeans and cowboy boots, I wouldn’t fit in at a place like this.
I hear someone clear his throat and I turn to see a guy about my age, mid-twenties, standing next to me. I can’t help my surprise when I see he’s wearing khakis and a polo shirt, like he just stepped off of a golf course. He looks as out of place in this country bar as I feel.
“Are you Jake Wilde?” I ask.
The guy gives me the faintest hint of a smile but it’s almost as if it pains him to give that much. His deep brown eyes look even more distressed and I can’t help but wonder what’s behind those sad eyes.
He rakes his fingers through his thick dark hair. “A little windy out, isn’t it?”
My hand automatically goes to my hair and I try to casually flatten it down again. I imagine I must look like I just stepped out of a wind tunnel.
“Your hair looks fine,” the guy tries to assure me. But he’s got that hint of a smile on his face again and it makes me wonder if he’s lying just to make me feel better.
“I’m Cooper Wilde,” the guy says as he offers a hand.
I don’t know why I suddenly feel nervous about shaking it. It’s a business meeting. That’s what people do. But the way this guy is looking at me gives me the feeling that he might be interested in more than just business.
But I’m not, I remind myself. Not only because I’ve all but sworn off men, I’m here to do a job. I’ve been working for H & C Bank for two years and this is my first solo assignment as a lead investigator. If I continue to do well, I’ll be well on my way to becoming a Vice President before I turn thirty. I don’t need a man to throw me off my career trajectory. And definitely not some guy in a country bar in rural New Jersey.
I take his hand and give it a quick shake but I can’t bring myself to look into his smoldering eyes again. “I’m Riley Smith.”
“I figured that,” Cooper says.
“Why is that?”
That hint of a smile has returned to his face again. “We don’t often get women in business suits in the bar.”
I’m not sure why I’m suddenly overcome with the urge to get a real smile out of Cooper Wilde. I don’t know even know the guy but it somehow seems important. I get the feeling he hasn’t really smiled in a while and it’s long overdue.
Not that I’ve had much occasion for real smiles myself lately.
'Besieged' by L.P. Lovell
Book Info-
Title- Besieged
By-L.P. Lovell
Blurb-
What would you do if you were granted millions of pounds and a face that melts the underwear off of any woman? Meet Theodore Ellis, the business man who parties like a rock star, and has more women than he has room on his bedpost to put the notches.
Meet Lilly Parker. With a difficult past; Lilly is cold, closed off and emotionally unavailable in every way. Don't go thinking she's the sweet and innocent victim though, she plays the game better than most men, and is the original use and abuse woman.
She's built her walls ten feet high and topped with razor wire, but Theo is relentless in the face of a challenge and Lilly finds herself besieged by him. Can he get in her pants? Or will the unsuspecting man whore go a step further and finally tear down her walls? Unlikely.
This is no hearts and flowers love story, it is a battle of wills as a woman who trusts no-one denies a man who has never been denied.
Cue fireworks as female sass meets alpha male tenacity.
Besieged will make you laugh, fantasize and perhaps even shed a tear.
Read an excerpt:
"What do I have to do to get you in my bed?" He asks shamelessly.
"Let me see. Shit gold." I smile wryly.
He laughs. "You will end up in my bed Lilly. Maybe not today or even tomorrow, but you will." This guy thinks he's god’s gift to women. Oh, I am going to enjoy rejecting him. I step closer to him until my lips are only a few inches from his.
I lean up to whisper in his ear. "You just sealed your own failure. I hate arrogance, and I hate assumption even more. You assume I'll sleep with you. My eyes flick confidently down his body. "Never. Going. To happen."
"So ...you, me, my bed. I promise you at least two orgasms before you leave." My voice is husky as my mind flashes through all the things I’d love to do to her, and there are so, so many.
"Only two? Sweetie my vibrator can do that for me. You'd have to be offering a lot more than that. I pegged you as a man of ambition." Her lips curl up in a playful smile, and if possible she becomes even more beautiful. She is pure sex and sin in all wrapped up in one seriously fuckable package.
“You can try and kid yourself all you like Lilly, but your entire body is screaming that you want it.” He purrs. Damn it, of course I want it, but I’m not about to lose all self-respect just for sex. Guaranteed amazing multiple orgasm sex I’m sure, but even so.
"I'm drunk. It doesn't count." I argue.
He leans closer still and whispers against my lips. "You are drunk, but you don't think I see the way you look at me when you're hiding behind your suits and professional courtesy. You may keep up that cool exterior, but just under the surface you're burning up for me. I’ll bet you've pictured me between your legs a hundred different ways. God knows I have.”
Review of 'Heal My Heart (Kemmons Brothers Baseball Series #3)' by Elley Arden
Contemporary Romance
Book Three in the Kemmons Brothers Baseball Series (Can be read as a Stand Alone)
Female professional football quarterback MJ Rooney has her eye on the prize, a record-breaking, championship season. Sure, it would be nice to have family support, but she believes in herself, and she has her teammates. That’s all she needs to win … until a scuffle at a baseball game sends her over the railing and onto the field with a concussion that threatens her season.
Dr. Tag Howard isn’t a baseball player like his brothers, but that doesn’t mean he can’t contribute to the game. He’s poised to become Major League Baseball’s go-to sports medicine doctor if he can rehabilitate Gold Glove Centerfielder Grey Kemmons, who happens to be his estranged brother. It’s a lot to take … until an unorthodox angel crashes into his life with a concussion and a fresh perspective.
MJ doesn’t need a man. She needs a championship ring. Getting messed up with a sexy, doctor and his family baggage isn’t going to get her there. But the attraction is undeniable, and there’s surprising freedom from expectations in each other’s arms … until Tag’s brothers want a reunion that requires him to own up to his ugly past, and MJ’s season teeters amidst the distractions. Would life apart be easier?
Read an excerpt:
M.J. watched as people passed the open door to her exam room. Some looked in and smiled, but she couldn’t manage to muster the strength to smile back. In fact, she was just about to get up and close the door when a handsome man in a white coat passed. They made eye contact for a brief second before he disappeared in the same direction the nurse had.
But then he was back.
“You,” he said, smiling.
It was a wonderful smile, bright and white, balling his cheeks and squinting his eyes, defining his chin with a sexy v-shaped crease.
“Me?” M. J. questioned.
He stepped into the room, wearing the same smile along with a pale blue dress shirt and crisply pressed gray pants visible from the split in his white coat. “You don’t remember me, do you?”
“No.” One word was a better bet than letting her incredulity slip out amid a full sentence. If she’d met a man like that before, she’d certainly never forget him.
“You’re Miss Rooney, aren’t you? I examined you on the field after you fell.”
M. J.’s jaw dropped. “Oh,” she managed, despite the embarrassment heating her face. If she didn’t remember him, God only knew what she’d done or said during their exchange. She wasn’t exactly mealy-mouthed.
“How are you feeling?” He tilted his head and rolled his gaze over her, a hint of that smile lingering in his beautiful hazel eyes.
Physically? “Better.” Mentally? Like a fool, because she was trying to place him, but nothing that happened after she toppled over the railing and before Felicia arrived at the hospital made sense. And now she was gawking at this crazy-attractive man.
“How’d you end up at Fellows’ clinic?”
“Dr. Ridge.” She matched the tilt of his head with her head. “He’s my team physician.”
Dr. Sexy’s eyes widened. “Which team?”
“Clash,” she said without hesitation, maybe even a little too fiercely. She’d just been laughed at too many times to count.
When he chuckled, she wanted to slap him, but he looked so damn good doing it.
“Now it makes sense,” he said. “You told me you belonged on the field when I asked how you got there, and then you asked if you’d been sacked.”
He wasn’t laughing at the fact she played football? Interesting.
“Knock, knock.” Dr. Ridge stood in the doorway. “Go find your own patients,” he directed at Dr. Sexy. “Better yet, go get some pizza before I finish it off.”
Dr. Sexy smiled again as he nodded, exuding a nonchalance that had M. J.’s muscles bunching, bracing against the attraction.
“Miss Rooney,” he said. “It was nice to see you again.”
It was, wasn’t it? Even if she didn’t remember seeing him the first time.
**My thoughts**
This is my first book in the Kemmons Brothers Baseball Series that I have read. I definitely think it can be a stand-alone, but am interested in checking out the first two in the series, as you get a chance to meet the other two brothers.
MJ and Tag have definitely been used and abused by their families. They have not been respected for their proficiencies, instead often being ridiculed for not fitting into a preconceived notion of what they should be doing. Tag got lucky and got out early, but the damage had already been done. MJ is still struggling.
They have the kind of chance encounter that often exists in fantasies and leads to an amazing relationship that helps them to complete each other. It isn't a perfect relationship, by any means. Both of them have been alone, on purpose, for a long time. They both have a ton of healing to do and can easily accidentally hurt each other even more as they work on creating a new sense of self with each other. But it's still a fun ride to read.
I do love that MJ is a professional female football player, who can easily outplay many men. It's a fun change of pace in the lead female character. Tag is a brilliant doctor, but they do make a good match. Enjoy this over a weekend of relaxation.
'Chasing the Serenity' & 'Behind the Pitch' by Eden Butler!
Chasing Serenity Synopsis:
Graduate student Autumn McShane has had her share of heartbreak. She's been abandoned and betrayed and she lost her beloved mother in a tragic car accident five months ago. That loss damaged her body and fractured her spirit but she's learning to recover, until her ex-boyfriend returns to town, intent on making her life miserable.
Declan Fraser hates her ex as much as Autumn does, but the last thing she needs is to put her trust in the hands of another man, especially one like Declan: his hard body and lulling Irish accent makes more than a few girls weak-kneed. The talented rugby player is rude and sarcastic, with tattooed, muscular arms and a cocky attitude, but he's the only one who can help Autumn win an ill-advised bet that, if lost, could cost her more than she's willing to pay. The reluctant alliance between Declan and Autumn stirs up cravings she doesn't want to admit, but Declan is a hard man to resist.
Just when Autumn starts letting down her carefully constructed walls to the sexy bad boy, he betrays her when she needs him most. Autumn suspects Declan has secrets, and she is determined to uncover what drove him away from her, even if that means fraternizing with the enemy. But will the truth return Declan to her arms or add to the scars on her heart?
Read an excerpt:
“What do you play?” I ask and he stops for a moment, notices me staring at his hands.
“Wing. Well, normally I’m wing. Tucker’s convinced Mullens to set me as scrumhalf.”
“Ah, so that explains it.”
“Explains what?”
“Why you hate Tucker.” He doesn’t respond, just returns to the bookshelf to grab another box and my gaze follows him, takes in the rigid set of his shoulders. “He’ll be gone at the end of the season, you know.”
“Hmm. If I’m lucky,” he says.
“Mullens is a good coach. I’ve known him forever and he’s friends with Ava.” A wrinkle forms between Declan’s eyebrows. “Dr. Winchell.”
“Thick as thieves with the president, aren’t you?”
“No. Well, yes, but it’s not what you think. She was my mom’s best friend. They’d known each other since college.”
He opens his mouth as though he wants to say something, but then just nods before he clears his throat. “Sayo mentioned it was a car crash?” When my eyes narrow, he shakes his head as though I shouldn’t be angry. “That was after she and the other two barked at me forever. Told me what an arse I was, how rude I was, how you didn’t deserve to be disrespected.” I relax and he continues. “You were hurt?”
“Yes.” My hands shake, tremble as they rest on the box in front of me and I can see myself bloody and still in the car, remembering the pain, the suffocating feeling of my mother’s loss. A breath tamps down the burn of tears in my eyes. “Three broken ribs, a completely busted up leg, and a lacerated abdomen. I had more scrapes and bruises than even you’ve probably had.”
“I’ve had many. Loads of scars as well.”
I don’t know what possesses me to do it, perhaps some subconscious need to prove how tough I am, that I’m not some sniggering girly girl, but I lift up the side of my shirt and show Declan the top of my incision from the surgery. It’s a horrid, long line still pink that runs from my hip to just below my bellybutton.
“A steel rod from the truck that hit us pinned me to the seat. Seven hour surgery.” Declan winces. The scar had faded and the doctors told me that over time it would continue to diminish, but it would never disappear completely. Five months on and it’s still quite disgusting.
Seemingly without thinking about it, Declan reaches down and rubs his thumb against my scar and at his touch, my stomach flips. I know he can see the light hairs on my stomach stand on end and how my skin covers in goose bumps. He looks at my face again and once more his eyes linger too long in my eyes, then down to my lips. But then he breaks contact and unbuttons his shirt.
“I’ve got a few nasty ones as well. See this?” He lifts his undershirt back over his left shoulder and I nod, curious of his point, his intentions. “Rory McDonald pushed me straight through the rusty, broken uprights when I was fifteen. Twenty-nine stiches that ached like a bugger. And here,” he lowers his shirt then pulls up the hem to show me a smooth gash just below his bellybutton. “Mickey Douglas forgot to ditch his watch during a practice match when I was eighteen. Fecking thing nearly ripped me in half when he lined me up and smashed me as I went for a try-scoring pass.” The scar is faint, barely noticeable and doesn’t register really as I am distracted by muscles so taut that I can see the lines across his stomach. There is a long trail of black hair below his navel that disappears beneath his belt and I can’t help the wild dip of my stomach as I watch his bare skin.
“That’s um, yeah.” I swallow against the dryness in my mouth and Declan steps closer, his shirt still raised. Again I feel him watching me, and I don’t realize how close we are standing until he drops his shirt. There is no smile on his face, no condescending little grin that tells me he thinks I’m an idiot.
I don’t react when Declan reaches for my face or when his hand cups my cheek. The tips of his fingers are smooth, not like the rough callouses on the tops and palms of his hands. I’m about to speak, say something glib, sarcastic, but just then Declan rubs his thumb across my bottom lip, a mimic of what I’d done to him Thursday night on the sidewalk. I can only manage to watch his head lower until his lips are at my ear. When he whispers, his voice is low, a soft rasp that nears a growl and instantly makes my body ache.
“Like what you see, love?”
He steps back and the crackle present in the air, the one I’d forced the other night, returns, collects into the stillness of the basement. The seconds stretch, he moves forward, and the only sound I can hear is the low hum of the lights overhead and my own heartbeat thumping in my ears.
“Yes….um, no…it’s not like that.”
“Liar.”
Behind the Pitch Synopsis:
Expat Irish rugby player Declan Fraser only wanted to play the sport he loves. He didn’t want to be stuck in this middle-of-nowhere town at this all too quaint university. He didn’t want his team captain to be an entitled jackass who switched Declan's position on the squad just to make himself look good. And he sure as hell didn’t want to fall in love with graduate student Autumn McShane.
Autumn is stubborn, but gorgeous; she bristles at any hint of dependency on anyone or anything, but she’s also a survivor. She’s everything Declan didn’t know he wanted. When Autumn finds herself in the middle of a challenging bet with her ex-boyfriend - who just happens to be the arrogant team captain that Declan hates - he feels honor bound to help her out. But he didn’t expect to fall for her in the process.
“Behind the Pitch” reveals the most twisted and erotic thoughts in Declan’s head as he navigates through his on again/off again, frustrating and deeply erotic relationship with Autumn McShane.
And lordy, does he have a filthy mind.
Eden Butler is an editor and writer of New Adult Romance and SciFi and Fantasy novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum. Her debut novel, a New Adult, Contemporary (no cliffie) Romance, “Chasing Serenity” will launch October 2013.
When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.
'Intimate Desires' by Celeste Carrara
Intimate Desires
By
Celeste Carrara
BLURB:
Stephanie is almost forty and her life hasn’t turned out the way she planned. That doesn’t mean she’s ready to give up and wallow in her misfortunes. She has fantasies, wild fantasies and she decides it’s time to make them come true. Lucky for Stephanie, she has four hot tenants that are anxious to satisfy her needs.
It was supposed to be one night of pleasure. Mark soon realizes he can’t get enough of his landlord, Stephanie. He doesn’t care about their age difference, or what others will say. Mark will do whatever it takes to make her see they are meant to be regardless of the obstacles that lay ahead. He will fight for her because that’s what you do… you fight for the one you love.
*This novella contains explicit sexual encounters, which include ménage and group sex. 18 and over only.
Read an excerpt:
They showered and held each other, naked in her bed. It felt so good to be with a man that way again. Until then, she hadn’t realized how much she truly missed a man’s arms around her, and the feeling of safety and security it provided. The way he nuzzled into her neck as he held her, the way his breath tickled her ear, the way his leg dragged her close to him as he cuddled into her. He cared for her. She could feel it. A year ago, it would’ve overwhelmed her. She hadn’t been ready then, but Stephanie was ready now. She had ignored the need in her for too long. She let herself get caught up in her losses and neglected her basic needs. She wanted Mark. Plenty of women dated younger men, why not her?
“Goodnight, beautiful, and thank you for an unbelievable night.”
“Goodnight Mark, and thank you for giving me exactly what I needed.”
He smiled at her and kissed her lips and watched her until sleep took over.
Review of '8 Weeks' by Bethany Lopez
Title: 8 Weeks
Series: Time For Love #1
Author: Bethany Lopez
Release Date: March 24, 2014
Summary:
Is eight weeks enough time to earn back the love of someone you've betrayed...the only one you've ever loved?
Shelly has been in love with Cal since they started dating in eleventh grade. Despite everyone saying that the odds were against them, they got married after graduation and built a life together. Now, six years later, she is faced with the ultimate betrayal. Devastated, her first instinct is to call it quits…
After a drunken binge at his best friends’ bachelor party, Cal betrays the one person who has always been there for him, his wife, Shelly. Terrified and realizing she might divorce him, Cal must come up with a way to prove to her that his love is true…
Cal asks Shelly for eight weeks. Eight weeks to convince her that their marriage is worth the fight. Will Shelly be able to trust him again, or will their marriage end the way many others do when faced with opposition… In divorce?
8 Weeks is book 1 in the Time for Love series, but can be read as a stand alone.
Read an excerpt:
“I’m sorry, I don’t want to make it harder, and I don’t want to fight with you,” I implored. “But I will fight for you, Shelly. Give me a chance to.”
She was shaking her head again, and a plan formulated in my mind.
“Give me eight weeks,” I said desperately.
“I’m not going to live with you for eight weeks, Cal.”
“No, I get that,” I responded. “Give me eight Saturdays. Eight dates where it’s just the two of us. Give me time to show you why we're so good together, and that I’m willing to bend and compromise to make our marriage work.”
Shelly looked at me thoughtfully.
“Why eight?”
“One week for each year that we’ve been together.”
**My thoughts**
Could you forgive the love of your life for one accidental indiscretion? He doesn't remember doing it, though all evidence points to it. He has never considered cheating before and never will again. It's obvious that Cal and Shelly are meant to be together. Can any of us really say that either of them makes the right decision in this book, unless we have walked in their shoes?
I don't know what I would do. I give Cal a lot of credit for working so hard to prove himself to his wife. Shelly is brave for even considering forgiveness. They go back and forth on a roller coaster ride, reliving their romance with the help of their friends. Sometimes it takes a momentary lapse of judgment to make you realize what you have.
At the beginning of the story, I wasn't sure how much I would like it. I didn't think I would want to give Cal a second chance. I felt like the story didn't flow quite right. As I kept reading, though, it seemed to come together better. The writing grew stronger. I even found myself changing my mind about how I felt about both of the characters.
This book is a very fast read, easily done in an afternoon. Read it and see how you feel about true love, despite massive mistakes in judgment.
Blurb:
As an established long term couples’ therapist, Stella Ralfini has worked with numerous couples who wanted to add more spice to their lovemaking. What she discovered over the years was that what turns us on sexually is as diverse as peoples’ tastes in art. Some prefer the staid, face on Reality of Rembrandt over the ‘off the wall’ Dali. Three Faces of Sex offers something to tickle everyone’s taste buds.
The art of Tantric lovemaking features strongly in Three Faces of Sex, but it is woven into the world of fantasy to offer a modern take on an ancient art form. Added to this is Stella’s unique innovation of ‘Natural High Breath Work’ which helps lovers throw off inhibitions, together with sizzling secrets from the archives and lovemaking rituals guaranteed to stir couples to new heights.
If you enjoy erotic novels and want to turn fiction into action, Three Faces of Sex is the lovemaking manual to help you put your sensual spirit where your mouth is.
Cover Reveal! 'Girl Lost' by Nazarea Andrews
Coming soon...
BOOK INFORMATION:
GIRL LOST by Nazarea Andrews
Coming May 1st, 2014
Contemporary Romance
BLURB:
Northern was supposed to be a fresh start—a place where people didn’t know who I was or how I had spent years in and out of mental institutes. People didn't know about my parents death or the island no one heard of. But when Peter sits next to me in lit class, I can’t stop the memories, and I don’t want to. He looks too much like the boy from the island, and despite my best intentions, coaxes my secrets from me.
He’s gorgeous, irresistible, a little mad, and completely lost—we are a pair of broken cogs in a world neither of us truly fits into. And he listens when I talk, about the past and the terrifying future. He is somehow gentle and fierce, heartbreaking in his devotion and savage in his defense.
When Belle, his best friend, shows up, pale and lovely and sick, Peter pulls away from me, a startling withdrawal. It’s a relationship that scares and confuses me. She is at times warm and friendly, and other times is violent and unpredictable.
Peter says that he wants me, but refuses to let himself get close. And there are secrets, surrounding both of us, that border on nightmares. As the memories close in, as Belle gets sicker and more violent, I’m torn between what is true and what I believe, and what this magical boy knows about my mysterious past.
*Suitable for 17+. A romantic contemporary retelling of the boy who never grew up.
Read an excerpt:
I shrug. "Because I can't help but trust you. Even though it's stupid and I have no good reason for it--I want to trust you. I want you to be someone I can trust." I open my mouth, to tell him about the boy, about why it is so important to me. Why I should stay away from him, and why I can't seem to.
Peter speaks first. "I don't know who your father is. I don't know why you want to run from your past. But the thing is, Gwen, I don't care. I want to be part of now. I'll fight tooth and nail to be part of now."
"What if now is temporary?" I ask, thinking about my aunt and my tenuous grasp on sanity and all the reasons I should step away from Peter.
"Then we enjoy what we have," he murmurs. I shudder as his voice wraps around me, as warm as the hand curving around my neck. He makes a low noise, and lifts me, until I'm sitting in the circle of his crossed legs. Pressed against him. I can feel his heartbeat through his shirt, the unsteady pounding. His fingers are still pressed against my hips, still holding onto me despite having me where he wants.
I should move back, put distance between us, so he knows that this isn’t ok. I sit still and silent in his arms and wait for the chiding voice, telling me it’s wrong.
The voice that has drown out every thought and feeling, every time a boy has touched me.
But it’s silent, oddly absent—maybe it is as charmed by Peter’s appearance as I am.
“What is Lane, to you?” he asks, breaking my thoughts.
I shrug, looking at the pulse point pounding in his throat. “A friend.”
“I don’t want you near him.” He says.
There is a part of me, slight but there, that is annoyed by his pronouncement. But the bigger part is smirking, leaning in so that my lips tickle along his neck. Peter goes very still, as I whisper, a hairs breath from his skin, “Are you jealous?”
His voice is low, gravelly, “Yes. Fuck, yes I am. I don’t want any man near you—I hate Micah for being your brother. I want you with me, always.”
His voice is so fierce, wild. It’s a savagery that is at odds with the soft circle of his arms, the gentle press of his fingers on my back.
That is all tenderness and fragile care.
