'Affairs & Atonement' by Clarissa Cartharn

Blurb:

What do you do when your first love returns with the hopes of a second chance?

A SECOND CHANCE LOVE STORY, A FIRST-LOVE ROMANCE

He married her at eighteen and then she disappeared hours into their marriage.

That was eleven years ago and Ashton Pryor was certain he was over Christy Huntley. He had moved on. He got engaged.

But old ties have to be severed first before new ones can be made. Now he needed to find Christy more than ever. He needed to divorce her to marry Naomi Landon.

Read an excerpt:
She made a good effort to ignore Ashton which only irked him more. He followed her around the kitchen as she tidied it up, clearing away all remnants of their dinner.

“Do you need to put these away too?” he asked, pointing at the candlestick holder.
She shook her head. “No,” and then continued on quietly at stacking the plates in the dishwasher.
“What about these placemats?”
“If you don’t mind putting them in the drawer there, please?” She pointed out to him.
He collected them, perking his lips as he glanced over at her.
“This one?” he asked, standing next to a set of draws.
“Yes.”
“The top one?”
“The second one.”
“From the bottom?”
“From the top.”
“On the left?”
“Yes.”
“This left?”
She clenched her fingers, taking in a deep breath. “Yes.”
“It’s a large drawer. Where do you want me to put it?”
She marched over to him and took the placemats from him. “They’re just placemats, Ashton.”
She threw them into the drawer and slammed it shut before turning back to her dishes again.
He ambled up to her, leaning against the sink bench, watching her. Her body swayed to and fro as she scrubbed vigorously at a pot. Her movements raised an uneasy spark in him, recollecting memories of her when she swayed to a different beat on that first night when she solely belonged to him. He shuffled his feet, crossing his legs to ease the discomfiture he was beginning to feel between them.
“Must you stand there?” she grumbled.

“Excuse me?” He cleared his throat.
“You’ve been standing there, staring at me. And it’s making me uncomfortable.”
“I thought we could talk…”
“I’d rather not,” she cut him. “At least, not now.” She wiped her hands and moved away from him, trying to maintain a safe distance between them.
Each movement she made, the way she ran her hand over her dark hair, biting the corner of her trembling lower lip, excited him. He would never have thought he would notice such minute gestures in her. He was meant to sever all ties with her. Instead, he was finding that he was tangling himself in his own desires for her.

'Bedroom Gangster' by Big Herc

About the book:

Bedroom Gangster takes story telling to the next level with its hardcore, pornographic details of sex and hustling. Ex-con, porn star, writer, Big Herc paints a vivid picture of swinging, porn sets, wild parties and hooking up, placing you smack dab in the middle of a triple x movie. Having lived the life, Big Herc keeps it real with his characters and gives you a first hand look from the hood to Hollywood.

Read an excerpt:
Tone awoke to the heavy panting of a golden retriever in his face as he lay curled up on the sand of the Santa Monica Beach, with his goose down blanket and leather Polo coat. Tone spent his first night in Los Angeles sleeping away his past against the back drop of the Pacific Ocean. Watching the waves break, Tone contemplated the life in the hood he’d left behind and the new life ahead he wanted to create for himself.
“Franky! Franky! Get over here! You don’t know that man. I’m so sorry about that, Franky is a little overly friendly,” a female voice said as Tone strained to adjust his eyes against the glaring sun. The retriever was licking Tone’s hand as he moved to position himself and get a better look at the beauty behind the voice. Sitting straight up, the woman’s crotch was almost directly in front of his face. Through the thin white material of her shorts, he could make out the outline of her puffy pussy lips. It was obvious that she was not wearing any panties. Her legs were well built and tan, displaying signs of past athleticism. Her feet were bare and her toes French pedicured. Her ankle bore a single silver designer bracelet, with a matching silver ring around her pinkie toe. Moving up past her shorts, she was a little thick in the waist, but in a sexy way. Her belly button was pierced with a diamond stud. A pair of succulent thirty-six double D tits hung low, right above her belly button in a white sports bra. Her face was natural, free from any makeup, with full juicy lips and piercing blue eyes. Her long blonde hair flowed down to the middle of her back.
“Don’t worry about Franky; he’s just a playful little guy, aren’t ya!” Tone said playfully, grabbing the blue rubber ball that had rolled over to the area where he had been sleeping. Upon Tone grabbing the ball, Franky went crazy, jumping up and down, wagging his tail and barking. Tossing the ball towards the ocean, Franky took off clumsily to go fetch it.
“How are you doing this morning? I’m Tone,” he said holding out his hand to greet her. She extended her hand squeezing his fingers. Her hand was soft and her fingers manicured. Taking in her full beauty, Tone could see that she was a mature woman, probably in her mid-forty’s, but very attractive. Older women had always been Tone’s thing. He didn’t like to waste much time with women his own age, because they usually didn’t know what they wanted and liked to play too many games.

'No Denying You (A Danvers Novel)' by Sydney Landon

Blurb:

After Emma Davis’s first week at Danvers International, she’s convinced her boss will drive her crazy…

Being the assistant to uptight workaholic Brant Stone is more than Emma can bear. But in her weaker moments, she can’t help but admit that the sexy control freak can turn her on with an insult more than any man she’s ever met...

So when Emma gains an unexpected advantage, she blackmails Brant into accompanying her to her high school reunion. After all, the enemy she knows is preferable to a blind date arranged by her meddling mother.

But before they realize what’s happening, they are doing more than acting the part…they’re living it. The war that has been raging between them shifts playing fields to the bedroom, as hate turns to lust and then to something so much more…

Read an excerpt:

Chapter One
Honey, have you given any more thought to getting some bigger tits?
Emma rolled her eyes and dropped her head onto her desk. Why couldnt her mother bake cookies, knit sweaters or do any of that other Betty Crocker shit? No-o-o, she couldnt be that lucky. Katrina Davisor Kat, as she liked to be called—had always wanted to be the cool mom on the block. Heck, most of Emmas childhood friends still called her mother for advice. The woman didnt pull any punches.God, Mom, can we please not talk about my tits today? Or lack of them?”
Em, its for your own good. Youre too attractive to sit at home all the time. Men are visual creatures so maybe a new rack is exactly what you need. Your father cant keep his hands off mine. And you’re not getting any younger. You dont want to wake up one day and have them fall out of bed before you do.
Gross, Mom. This whole conversation is really gross. I dont want to hear anything about your sex life with Daddy. Ever. Id like to be able to look him in the eyes just once without the constant stream of images in my head of the things you feel the need to confide to me. Maybe you should just go Catholic—then you could confess to someone with a more professional opinion.
Oh, Em, get over it. Im just trying to help. You know what? Ill even pay if I can pick them out. Ill e-mail you some information and you can let me know what you think.
Mom, for the last time, I like my tits just fine!” As soon as she shouted that last bit, Emma froze at the sound of a throat clearing behind her. Please tell me that the asswipe isnt behind me, ple-e-ease. As she swiveled slowly in her chair, she groaned. Fate definitely wasnt on her side. Her boss, Brant Stone, stood behind her with his usual condescending smirk. She quickly said her good-byes to her mother although she could hear her still speaking as she gingerly placed the receiver back in the cradle. Determined not to give him the satisfaction of seeing her rattled, she raised a brow, asking as politely as she could manage, Did you need something?
Apparently not as badly as you do, Emma.
Oh great, here it comes, another jab at my work performance. I wonder how much jail time I would get if I choked him with the paisley tie hes wearing? Turning her back to nonchalantly pick up her coffee cup, she said, Pardon?
I am positively riveted by your plight, he replied.
More obscure code to unravel. She spent half of her time trying to figure out what in the hell he was talking about. She knew he did it on purpose, the sneaky bastard. I bet you are considering you cause most of my misery.She knew it was unprofessional as well as career suicide to talk to her boss this way, but she kept hoping he would have her transferred to another department so that he could find someone more suitable for his assistant. So far, that hadnt happened. She had even started dropping hints, but, like every suggestion she made, he seemed to completely ignore it.
Thats flattering, Emma, but I dont think I can accept responsibility for your . . . shortcomings.
Her coffee cup fell from her suddenly limp fingers and crashed to the floor. Then she plowed into him as she jumped back to avoid the hot liquid.Shit!The carnage continued as they both fell backward like dominoes. When she managed to get her bearings, she was horrified to realize that Brant was laid out on the floor underneath her, and her butt was nestled firmly near his crotch. Coffee stains were splattered all over his perfectly creased slacks, and it took her a moment to realize why her legs seemed so bare as they lay tangled with his. Her short skirt had blown up during their fall and was now resting well above the level considered legal in most states. Was that . . . ? No, it couldnt be. . . .
Without thinking, she wiggled around experimentally. No way! Her boss, the spawn from hell, was not growing hard against her bottom. Oh my God, he was!
I didnt realize that ruining my clothing also came with a lap dance.When she froze, he chuckled. Oh, by all means, dont stop now. Even someone with small tits is a turn-on when shes grinding against your lap.

Review of 'Christmas at the Cove' by Rachel Brimble

Christmas at the Cove
by Rachel Brimble

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
More family for Christmas?
Scott Walker doesn't have time for a relationship. The sexy mechanic has career ambitions, not to mention a mother and three sisters to take care of. The last thing he needs is Carrie Jameson, the beauty he never forgot, arriving in Templeton Cove over the holidays with some unexpected news.
Scott still finds Carrie irresistible, and he's not one to shirk responsibility. Scott's issues with his own dad make the prospect of parenthood a minefield. But if he and Carrie can overcome their fears, this Christmas could bring them the best gift of all.
Read an excerpt:
She squeezed her eyes shut. “I’ll stay for another couple of days, but then I have to go home. I can’t stay here for Christmas.”
The soft whisper of his exhalation drifted over her folded hands on the table. “That’s great. It’s more than great. Thank you.”
She swallowed, wanting the words she needed to say out of her body as soon as possible. “You have your life, and I have mine.” She opened her eyes. “Neither of us has to change our plans because I’ve told you about Belle. You can still do what you want to do.”
His eyes ever so slightly darkened. “If I’m a father, it changes everything.”
Be strong, Carrie. Lay down the ground rules. “I disagree.” She straightened her spine. “I get it, Scott. Truly. I understand you think knowing about Belle means you have to change your entire life, but that’s not true.”
“That’s not what I’m––”
“Let me just say this, please.”
He closed his eyes and she took that as permission to continue. She inhaled a deep breath. “I like, and appreciate, you thinking what you should to do and how to do it, but I’m not asking you to change your plans overnight. This is going to take time. I want it to take time. Belle doesn’t need to know about you yet. You can go on with your life and when the time’s right, I’ll tell her about you.”
Silence.
Carrie swallowed against the dryness in her throat. When she’d been standing outside the holiday park, the decision to see her mission through to the end burning like a flame inside her, she’d thought her words would be strong and clear, delivered with a reverence he couldn’t argue with. Yet now, her stomach trembled with nerves and her hands longed to take his.
Why did he make her feel so torn and her reasoning unfair? Belle was hers. He had no obligation to her unless he wanted one. “I’m not saying that to be cruel, you know.” She sighed. “I’ve looked after her the last year without a partner beside me. She’ll be okay…whatever you decide.”
His continuing silence raised the hairs at the back of her neck, made her fear she drove a bigger wedge between them, but she wouldn’t falter. She had come to Templeton and achieved what she came to do––the gates were open and Scott could step through them whenever he was ready. As long as he realized the hinges wouldn’t creak back and forth on a whim.
**My thoughts**
I love Rachel Brimble's romances and have read several of them. I was excited to check out her latest one, which is also her first Christmas romance. I have to admit that this one wasn't my favorite, but it was still enjoyable to read over a couple of cold, snowy evenings.
Scott and Carrie had an intense one-night stand, that actually lasted a couple of nights, a little over three years ago, when Carrie was in town over vacation. The result was a beautiful baby girl, only Scott never knew she existed. It is understandable that Carrie was afraid to tell him, but he had the right to know, which made me upset with her from the get go. Yes, she has decided that she is going to finally tell him, but only because her dying husband had told her to do so. I also had a hard time wrapping my head around her having a husband after Scott, though the story makes sense when it is presented. Carrie wasn't the easiest character to relate to, nor like, because of her ever-changing attitude.
Scott has been pining for this sexy blonde woman ever since, never finding anyone who remotely compares to her. On the surface, he appears to be a bit of a player. As you get to know more about him, he turns out to be one of the greatest men with a strong sense of responsibility and a huge heart.
This book does examine some of the trials and tribulations of family on different levels, whether the relationship between parents, parent and child, or siblings, as well as responsibilities associated with each. There is an air of Christmas magic, as well as an inexplicable super steamy attraction between Carrie and Scott, and the usual issues with trying to handle a romance in a nosy small town. They don't have the easiest road to travel, between reconciling their own issues with their pasts and interfering "others."
About the author:
C. T. Brown is an author, archer and photographer – at least that’s what I tell myself while moving numbers around on spreadsheets in my day job as a data analyst. Trust me – if you spent your days as a data monkey you would need creative outputs too, companies generally don’t like it if you get too creative with the numbers on the spreadsheets (it tends to lead to court cases, arrests and other such non-fun activities). I have been very happily married to my muse since 2010 and I use the word ‘muse’ because without her I would never have completed my first novel, she gave me the confidence to do it. I can be contacted by email at archerctb@yahoo.com or through my blog (http://archerctb.wordpress.com), all messages offering large sums of money will be gratefully accepted.
