When Rainey Ann McKenna's dying husband asked her always to be there for his brother, Tex McCoy, she had no idea that five years later her promise would bring a murderer into her home. According to the conditions of his release, for the next three months Tex will be on house arrest. Obligated by a promise, Rainey Ann takes the gorgeous but dangerous felon in.

Tex McCoy may have gone to jail for murder, but after a decade of being incarcerated, he too is dead inside. Resurrecting any of Tex's feelings—including the ones he once had for Rainey Ann McKenna—could be fatal. In jail, he fantasized about Rainey Ann. Behind steel bars it was acceptable to think of her in such a way, but in the real world, it's dangerous.

Yet as desire awakens, Rainey Ann’s threat heightens. After years of being locked up, Tex is ready to reclaim some control, and his fantasy woman is only a touch away.

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains explicit sex scenes and/or situations (including BDSM) and adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Excerpt:
But being left alone with Tex McCoy, the murderer, she found it difficult to summon her characteristic stubbornness. She glanced up at him and saw him gazing out the window. With him filling it, her normally decent-sized kitchen suddenly appeared small. It seemed to shrink even more when his eyes slithered from the window to her—so much so that it seemed to become devoid of oxygen, and her breath caught in her throat. He took a step toward her. At that point, her breathing seized altogether. His hand came out, nearing her face. Or was he going for her throat? She panicked and gasped for air as if his hands were already around her neck and squeezing. Was he going to…strangle her? She slapped his hand away. “Don’t you dare touch me!”

He shoved his hand into the pocket of his jeans. His eyes, if at all possible, became darker, almost black, but his expression remained impassive. “You have dirt on your face,” he said flatly and remotely, as if he’d expected her impulsive reaction.

Oh.” Her hand went to her cheek, the one he had planned to innocently wipe off for her. She rubbed it, wondering if she’d overacted. What was she going to do when he freely walked around her house, took a shower in her bathroom, or slept in the bedroom below hers? Was she going to jump with every step he took? Was she going to lay awake all night? And the shower—her shower. Rainey decided thinking about Tex McCoy naked in the shower wasn’t a good idea. He was a killer. But he already served his time, right? Was he…reformed? Wait, was she really trying to rationalize here? It was manslaughter, not murder, right? And he did claim self-defense. Right. Then why’d he brutally stab Curtis Watson multiple times?

The questions swarming through Rainey’s head were undoubtedly the same questions the jury had asked. Their answer to that question had earned Tex the maximum sentence of fifteen years. The unanswered question that remained was why Tex McCoy and Curtis Watson, a hired hand who’d worked at the McCoy ranch three years prior to the murder, had gotten into a brawl outside of the bar in the first place, the scuffle that eventually led to Curtis’s death.

For the sake of her son, Rainey had to believe Tex was reformed. She had to trust he had no other choice and that he had a damn good reason for killing Curtis Watson.

Uh, I’ll show you to your room,” she said, diverting her eyes from his so she could start down the hallway. She couldn’t hear him behind her. She glanced over her shoulder. He was right there, near and looming, with all the prowess and silent pursuit of some sly, predatory panther. Her heart slammed into her chest wall. She straightened her back, valiantly suffering through another panic attack. When she reached the spare bedroom, she opened the door and walked in. “This used to be my grandmother’s room. Nobody’s stayed in here since she died, but it has a queen-sized bed, an empty dresser…” She stopped and turned, practically bumping into him. Swallowing her insistent fear, she took a step back. “You do have clothes, don’t you? I, um…well, I don’t see any luggage or a duffle bag.”

Yeah, I have clothes,” he said and moved forward, recapturing the distance she’d intentionally placed between them. “My things will be dropped off later.”

Oh,” she breathed, backpedaling until she hit the wall. “Good.” Her body went still. He was standing just inches from her. He wasn’t touching her, but she felt pinned against the wall just the same.

He lifted his hands and placed them alongside her head, resting them on the wall. Now, she was literally pinned. His eyes drifted to her mouth, and every nerve trembled from the inside out. She wanted to run. Her breathing seized, and her heart had stopped midbeat. Fear was winning.

He leaned forward, and his dark lashes lifted until his eyes met hers. “You look scared,” he said, in a voice so low, ominous, and deep that it shook her insides.

She stood there, speechless.

Ever so slightly, like his menacing approach, his lip curled up. “That’s good,” he said, swaying dangerously closer. “You should be, Rainey Ann.” His eyes ran over her face. “In fact, you’d better take that fear and hold it real close.”

His hand came from the wall, dark lashes lowering once more. He gazed at her lips. They were quivering, but at that moment, Rainey couldn’t have cared less if he saw it. She was terrified. Warm fingers scraped her shoulder, slithered up her nape, and gripped around her neck. His fingers indented her skin, and being strangled came back to mind.

Or,” he said, tilting in toward her ear, their bodies bordering lethal contact, “you could give in to that fear right now and scream.”

Get to know Dani R.R. Hermi & Nevi Star, authors of 'Monster'

To kick off their virtual book tour for Monster, authors Dani R.R. Hermi & Nevi Star have taken some time to let us get to know them and their book a little better. Welcome!

Monster Book One, a Parliament of Twilight novel from authors Nevi Star and Dani R.R. Hermit (aka Hermie).

What was the inspiration behind this book?

Hermie: Funny enough, most of the Parliament of Twilight books were inspired by reality TV. Monster in particular came from a discussion about RT's back story and the embarrassment of being a judge on a series of reality shows produced by Wolf Productions. (RT is the main character from our upcoming series Inertia where he is hosting yet another reality show.) The two main couples in Monster – Julian & Siris, Chip & J – were inspired by us joking about RT having been on a show where they made a boy band and what might have happened to those guys.

Which character(s) spoke the most to you during the writing process?

Hermie: Definitely Julian. His journey of dealing with his desires versus his morality was an interesting reflection of my own journey during this process. I was struggling with the authentic desire to write erotica, but in order to do it at the level I wanted, I had to make the choice to walk away from my professional Tarot Reader career. It wasn't easy, and I fought with some of the same issues Julian will have to during this series.

Nevi: Siris. His journey of discovering that his destiny was so far from the life he thought he wanted was oh so very personal for me.

Which scene is your favorite?

Hermie: The part at the end of chapter 5 and continuing in the next chapter where Siris is being thrown onto the plastic sheeting in Skye's kitchen. His thought process during this part is so perfectly Siris!

Nevi: My favorite part is the very first scene where they see each other again after all this time. It's so full of all of the potential of what they are going to be to each other, what they are going to go through together. Especially the moment where Julian throws out the cut line from the boy band song! Genius!

How did the two of you come to write this book together?

Hermie: Writing is such a part of our story, it's hard to say HOW we started. But we were writing fan-fiction for years before we tried our hands at originals.

Nevi: It was actually through writing this ridiculous, epic fanfic saga together with a couple of our friends that we realized we were falling in love just like our characters were!

Do you have any other projects in the works as a team?

Hermie: The Parliament of Twilight owns our life! We have two other series we're working on in this same world – Ghost House (book one is out now) and Inertia (coming up in June).

Nevi: We've also done a couple of other stories before we met the Parliament. There's an epic fantasy world with mages and iconic bad guys; a space opera that started out as a Star Wars fic but evolved into so much more; and a handful of wildly off-canon fan fictions that we're talking about converting to originals.

What are some of your individual projects?

Hermie: I'm working a few short stories to submit to some contests and anthologies. There's one I'm particularly excited about for the “Don't Read in the Closet” event on the M/M Romance group on Goodreads.com. I have a very ambitious story in the works, but I don't know what's going to come of it. But really, most of my writing time lately has been used for working on the Parliament of Twilight books.

Nevi: I'm the official artist for Wandering Stars Press, so that keeps me pretty busy. I'm also working on several different Tarot and Oracle deck projects. I have a blog where I post essays about the process of developing the tenets for my burgeoning life-coach path. I hope one day to turn that into a book. I'm working on a novel of my own, a post-apocalyptic story set in a world populated with carousel horses rather than people. I don't want to talk too much about it yet, as I am not sure just when I will be ready to share it with the world.

How do your different personalities affect your writing projects? How do you compliment each other?

Hermie: Nevi comes at all the stories all crazy and spur of the moment. She goes full tilt at the characters' emotions and perceptions. I'm more about setting the scene, describing the action and building the world. We sort of fill in where the other is weak.

Nevi: And the dialogue is organic. We pass the notebook back and forth, each taking on one character, often surprising the other with what they say!

What are the pros and cons to working with another author on a project?

Nevi: There's never a writer's block we can't get over. When one of us is stuck, the other is overflowing with ideas to keep the story moving.

Hermie: We're always surprising each other with what we write. We don't really do much planning, so there's a spontaneity to the writing process that is both a pro and a con!

Nevi: Yeah, you just never know when some one is going to come along and blow a whole in your carefully designed pyramid of doom.

Hermie: (glaring at Nevi) Yeah, you never know. . . Also, being as we're romantic partners as well as writing partners, sometimes our characters' issues become our issues and we have to have a five hour long heart to heart just to make sure we're okay, even if our poor characters aren't!

If you could be any anime character, which one would you choose?

Hermie: Uh, what? I have to choose just one?

Nevi: O___o uh. . .

Hermie: I think that I would pick Usagi-san from Junjo Romantica. His life rocks!

Nevi: If I have to pick just one, I'd say Luffy from One Piece.

Tell us more about Wandering Stars Press.

Hermie: As of now, it's just the two of us writing and our long time friend Seth doing the job of editor and part-time marketing. We found out the hard way that we write some rather dark, taboo subjects that most publishers won't touch. To be honest, I went through about thirty or so publishers' submission guidelines and found that we were unacceptable for what they published for one reason or another. It frustrated us so much that we finally decided to create our own publishing house where there were no “morality rules.” Though it's a long way in the future, we do have the idea of publishing other authors like us as well.

What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?

Hermie: Um, well I think every knows we're together. That's not a big secret. We are a pair of lesbians that write m/m fiction. That usually surprises people.

Nevi: I'm addicted to QVC. I have a huge Monster High Doll collection and I name all my plush toys after characters in our books.

Hermie: I crochet ponies. Well, only one pony so far and a duck. I also read Tarot semi-professionally.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Nevi: Hermie's the cake baker. She makes all the best sweets.

Hermie: Nevi's addicted to the My Little Pony cartoons!

Nevi: But seriously, we LOVE music. It's such a huge part of our process.

Hermie: We have something like 100 mix CDs designed for listening to as writing inspiration for our stories!

Thank you so much for your time!

About the Authors

Dani R.R. Hermit (affectionately called Hermie) and Nevi Star, are the writers who founded Wandering Stars Press.

What do we write, you ask?

Our genre is gay erotica, with a spice of horror, mystery, comedy, drama and sometimes a western or space opera. We love boys loving boys (in all the wrongest ways). If you love that too, then maybe we can be friends. Both Hermie and Nevi have some solo projects in the works, but more on those as they develop. You can stay up to date on the news from Wandering Stars Press on our blog or Facebook.

Who are we when we’re not writing?

We’re life partners who’ve been together 13 years through all of life’s ups, downs and craziness. Ours has been a long and sometimes arduous road, but it’s only made the journey deeper and more interesting, adding fuel and fire to the stories we can tell.

Nevi is a spirit artist and a shaman. She is a World Walker. Nevi also does all the covers for WSP's books. She is currently working on a post-apocalyptic pony novel of her own, a My Little Pony themed tarot deck and a spirit squirrel oracle deck.

Hermie has been studying tarot for 20 years and reading professionally for a small, private clientele for about 13 years. She is also a genius at making sweet treats – homemade candies, cookies, cupcakes. (All gluten free!) She does all the cooking for our little pirate crew (or we would all starve or poison ourselves lol) and loves her neurotic kitten.

What inspires us?

Our first love and inspiration is Japanese Anime & Manga! We discovered Yaoi and it was all over. We already had a love affair with slash fan fiction, so taking that to some anime based fics really developed our style into what it is today. A close second is music. We create playlists that are character, story-arc or novel specific and play them at top volume while we are driving, writing and sleeping! We do karaoke in our living room as a means to cleanse our story demons and open up to the next day's work (and because it's a blast to get together with our pirate crew and sing our hearts out!). But we also love TV, movies and books. You can see which albums, shows, series, etc. are our favorites by following our board on Pinterest.

It’s been years since Siris and Julian’s boy band broke up and they all went their separate ways. Now they’ve run in to each other in a little redneck bar in the middle of nowhere, coming face to face with the ghosts of their past and the feelings they never quite grew out of.

Siris is here handing out golden tickets to some new reality TV show for the network that owns his record label. Julian is here to meet up with yet another new partner. On the surface it seems like a coincidence… or is it?

Neither man is happy when they realize that The Parliament of Twilight, who once ruled their lives, means for Siris to be Julian’s new partner. Julian worries about what he could do to Siris. Siris just wants to go back to being a mega pop star and has no interest in being a monster hunter. Thrown together against their will (and better judgment) how will these former friends do on their first case?

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains explicit sex scenes and/or situations (including BDSM/Light Bondage) and adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Read an Excerpt:
Siris felt dizzy as he was led, still blindfolded, down what felt like a long hall. He was on his knees and Skye hadn't taken his hands out of their bonds. With them tied behind his neck like this, Siris found he didn't have the best balance as he moved to follow Skye to wherever they were going. Thankfully, the bartender was taking it slow, not seeming to be in a hurry.

His knees were no longer on rough carpet. Siris thought they had come into some kind of kitchen. A few hesitant steps in and he heard more than felt the crinkle of plastic sheeting under his knees. Siris stopped, a sudden wave of fear washing over him. He had seen this movie. A part of him was certain this was the killing room floor. His body would be taken apart and thrown into the sewers to be eaten by giant rats and no one would ever know what happened. He whim:pered, refusing to move any farther.

Skye pulled his hair firmly. When all that got was another little whimper, he yanked hard. The pull threw Siris off balance and sent him sprawling across the plastic. Siris hit the floor hard with his face. He slid a little across the slick plastic, ending up in a very awkward position. He wasn't able to move himself easily and there was certainly no getting away.

“Please don't kill me,” he said as loudly as he dared. He thought he tasted blood in his mouth. He licked his lips and felt where he had split the bottom one.

“I don't want to kill you,” Skye assured him, moving around the room, rummaging in drawers and cabinets. “You have something I want.”

(This is a New Adult fiction book with mature themes. It contains explicit language and descriptions of sexual violence.)

Read an excerpt:

I left the bathroom in a hurry, turning the corner for the foyer and slamming into him. The force of the hit was so great that I stumbled backwards, nearly falling on my bottom if not for his outstretched hand. I grabbed it before going down and wobbled on my too-high heels, clutching him as I worked to regain my balance.
God, I’m sorry!” he exclaimed.
I looked at his face then, unprepared to see something so beautiful. I think I gasped. And then I averted my eyes out of sheer embarrassment.
I really should watch where I’m going,” he said.
He still held my hand, and I let him. I couldn’t remember who I was or where I was going. I couldn’t remember where I had just been. I only knew that a very cute boy . . . no, he was more than cute. He was gorgeous. This very gorgeous boy was holding my hand, and I had only one thought. I wanted to make our handholding more intimate. I wanted to lace my fingers with his.
I think I should,” I mumbled.
I chanced another look at him. I made a conscientious effort not to gasp as I took in his light blue eyes. I’d never seen eyes that color. Jared Leto had nothing on this guy’s eyes, and Jared’s eyes were the color of the Mediterranean. No, the eyes I looked into now were so light blue they looked translucent. I thought if I stared a little longer I could see right inside his head, to his brain, and I don’t know why that turned me on so much. I wanted to witness the workings of his mind, the firing synapses, information traveling safely inside neurons to different parts of his body. A few made it to his hand, and they must have told him to keep holding mine because he didn’t let go.
I stared shamelessly, licking my lips at one point. He stared back just as boldly. I wanted him to like what he saw. I wanted him to think I was sexy. I wanted him to feel the same instant attraction I did. I’d never felt it before. Not really. Not even with Finn. It was unsettling, and I wondered how people functioned after being smacked upside the head with it. Instant. Physical. Chemical.
Primal.
Just rip my clothes off, I thought. Just rip my clothes off and do me right here in the hallway!
He smiled and released my hand. I thought he did it reluctantly, like his brain ordered him to and he finally acquiesced. I smiled back, a flirty grin. I pulled my ponytail forward over my shoulder and played with the strands. I bit my lower lip. And then reality came crashing down like a hailstorm, large lumps of ice banging my head and screaming at me in unison.
YOU’RE AT A FUNERAL!”
I looked at the gorgeous guy, and my face went white.
Oh my God,” I whispered.
He stared at me for a moment before saying, “Are you okay?”
I shook my head and started towards the sanctuary doors. He followed behind.
I’m awful, I’m awful, I’m awful,” I whispered over and over. I didn’t care if he could hear.
What the hell was I doing? Trying to flirt with a guy at my best friend’s funeral? How could I even forget for a second that I was at a funeral? I was supposed to be carrying around heavy, black sorrow to match my black dress and black heart, not batting lashes and fantasizing about sex with a stranger. Was I so ridiculous that a hot guy could make me forget to have any kind of decency? Or shame?
I rounded the corner and saw my mother waiting for me. And then I ran to her, threw myself into her arms, and burst into a fit of tears.
Brooklyn,” she whispered, holding me in a tight hug. “It’s okay,” she cooed as she stroked my hair.
I’m a terrible friend!” I wailed. I saw the fuzzy outline of a boy walking past us tentatively through the doors.
No, you aren’t,” my mother replied.
Yes, I am! I don’t even know why I’m here! Beth hated my guts! She wouldn’t talk to me all summer!”
Brooke,” Mom said. “I want you to calm down. Now, we talked about this. You knew it would be hard, but she was your best friend for all those years. Do you think she wouldn’t have wanted you here?”
No, I don’t!” I cried.
Yes, she would,” Mom said. “Now we have to go in.”
I can’t!”
Brooke, Beth was your best friend,” Mom said, trying for patience.
No she wasn’t! Not after what I did! I ruined everything! I’m a freaking slut!” I sobbed, shaking my head from side to side.
Sweetheart, don’t say words like ‘freaking’ and ‘slut’ in a church,” Mom replied.
I only sobbed louder.
You can do this,” Mom encouraged.
I stood my ground, shaking my head violently, refusing to go in.
Brooklyn Wright!” Mom hissed, pushing me away and grabbing my upper arm. She squeezed too tightly, and I squeaked in discomfort. There was no more tenderness in her voice. “Get yourself together. This isn’t about you. So stop making it about you. You’re going into that sanctuary and you’re going to pay your respects to your friend, and you’re going to make it about Beth. Do you understand me?”
I swallowed hard and wiped my face.
Do you understand me?” Mom repeated.
I nodded grudgingly, and she took my hand, leading me through the doors.

Get to know Krista Ames, author of 'Take Me Home, Cowboy'

Welcome!
Take a moment to get to know Krista Ames, author of 'Take Me Home, Cowboy.'

What was the inspiration behind 'Take Me Home, Cowboy'?

I can’t actually say that there was any specific inspiration for this story other than I love western stories and one day an Idea came to me. Once I knew about the small fictional town of Freewill, I just adapted my story to fit and Take Me Home, Cowboy was born.

Which characters spoke to you the most during the writing process?

It was definitely Matt (the hero) that had the louder voice but they both really had an equal share in the creation.

Which scene is your favorite?

I really liked the whole story but my one of my favorite scenes would be when they first meet and Ally realizes that the person she’s meeting and the cowboy she talked to over the phone before she came for her visit are one in the same…… here’s a short excerpt of that scene

Ally-cat, this is Matt Gentry, my foreman.”

Very nice to have you join us, ma’am,” he said and extended his hand.
She blanched, the smile fading from her eyes and her lips. She turned a glare on her father. “Foreman? Of this ranch?”

Matt tried to hide a smirk, a bit of satisfaction curling in his chest at her obvious discomfort. What the heck, why not make her squirm a little bit more? “Yes ma’am, that’s what he said. Foreman. Of this ranch.”

She seemed immobilized by shock as she looked between him and her father.
Best damned foreman I’ve ever had, too!” Jesse chimed in, seeming not to even recognize her aggravation. “He could run this place without me.”

Oh, well now, boss man, I wouldn’t go that far. This job wouldn’t be near as much fun without you.”

Anger burned red on her cheeks, and she turned to glare at Jesse. “Damn it, don’t you know—”

Ally-cat, don’t you start on me. I run this ranch the way I see fit. I’ll always accept your business advice when it comes to the books, but it ends there.”

But Daddy—”

No. Don’t you ‘but Daddy’ me. I make the decisions on this ranch. I may be old but I’m not dead, not yet anyway.”

Don’t talk like that. You won’t be going anywhere for a long time yet.” Ally’s voice softened and her shoulders sagged.

Glad you think so, Ally-cat.” Jesse patted a spot next to him on the couch. ”Come sit with me while Maribella whips up something for us to eat.”

If you’ll excuse me,” Matt said, backing out of the room. “I’ll go clean up before dinner.”

He angled toward the hallway leading to his room, sensing her gaze following his movement, and assumed she would prefer if he cleaned up, ate, and slept in the bunkhouse with the other hands for the night. However, he wouldn’t be doing any of the sort. Jesse had given him a bedroom upstairs in the sprawling home, conveniently overlooking the barns, bunkhouse, and outbuildings, and he intended to use it same as always, especially if it pissed her off.

Do you have any other projects in the works?

Oh I do have a few First and foremost, I’m working on a second book for the Western Escape line which will connect with this one. No further details at this time tho, sorry.

Where is the best place to find a cowboy?

That’s a very good question….I’m guessing anywhere in the Midwest is a prime spot. I’d love to travel there myself to see what I can find

What is it about cowboys that lights our fires?

Hmmm, well besides the tight fitting wranglers they love to wear and those old worn out cowboy boots or the cowboy hat they pull down just far enough to make them look sinisterxy and s, they seem to be a rare breed…hard working, focused, loving and committed once they set their minds to it.

Michigan is a beautiful state. What are some of your recommended romantic destinations for visitors?

Michigan is definitely a beautiful state and besides the snow, I love living here. The best place for me at least for a romantic getaway is Mackinac Island. My husband and I make it a point once a year to go there without our kids to have that quality time! It’s beautiful there and quiet with no motorized transportation except an ambulance allowed on the island. You get there by boat or plane and once there, you either walk, ride a bike, take a horse drawn carriage or ride a horse. There is an endless amount to see including the beautiful immaculate homes. We are partial to the Inn at Stonecliff but there are many places to stay.

You are an avid reader. What do you recommend to readers, in addition to your own titles?

I do love to read and have an enormous amount of paperback books in my collection. Most of those are Linda Lael Miller, Debbie Macomber, Nora Roberts and Diana Palmer and then some other of my favorites are Lora Leigh, Maya Banks, all of the Decadent authors and the list goes on and on.

My biggest recommendation would be any of the authors at Decadent Publishing. There is a massive array of romance there and so far not a single story I haven’t liked. They are all top notch !!!

What are some words of wisdom that you have received about writing that you find useful?

You know what, the best thing I was ever told was to not give up. In this business it’s so easy to take that road when you get frustrated with a manuscript or when you get a rejection from a publisher or even when you get a less than stellar review. No one ever said it was an easy busy but it can be very satisfying if you just keep an open mind and don’t give up !

What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?

Hmmm, maybe that I’m a sucker for a man in a uniform(or chaps & cowboy boots), I’m addicted to Mt. Dew, hate coffee and function best on 3 or 4 hours of sleep…

Anything else you would like to share?

Just want your readers to know that I appreciate them visiting and would love to hear from them and if they are so inclined to pick up my book, I’d like to hear what they think of it, good or bad

Thank you so much for your time! ~Andrea

Andrea, thanks so much for having me today, I had a really great time !!!

Ally Kincaid returns to Freewill, Wyoming, to see her father after a two year absence. Anticipating a quiet family reunion, she finds herself butting heads with her father’s foreman instead. The man’s arrogance and sexy drawl push all her buttons, making her wonder what he’s hiding beneath his cowboy swagger.

Matt Gentry walked away from the past and shies from the future. No ties means no one gets hurt…until the boss’s daughter, a hot, green-eyed blonde, tempts him to break his own rules.

When tragedy strikes, will building tension and pride destroy their growing attraction or show them the way home?

Read an excerpt:
“I need to buy that man an answering machine.” Furious, Ally held the receiver away from her ear, eyes closed as the phone on the other end rang continuously. “Come on, Daddy, where are you?”

She was ready to hang up in frustration when the receiver was picked up and then—by the sound of the loud clanging on the other end—dropped.

“Circle K,” said the deep male voice rather breathlessly.

“Where in the world were you?”

“Excuse me?” the husky voice asked.

Oh crap, that’s definitely not Daddy. She’d been so surprised her call had finally been answered, she hadn’t realized there was nothing familiar about the voice at the end of the line “I’m sorry….” she cracked. Wow, where did that high-pitched squeak come from? “I’m sorry, who is this?”

“This is the Circle K Ranch. Who’s this?”

The man’s question held an impressive sexy drawl. Definitely not a voice she’d ever heard in New York City, and one she’d only be lucky enough to find in her dreams.

“I’d like to speak to Jesse Kincaid, please.” She did a mental inventory of all the ranch hands but couldn’t place the voice. And he obviously didn’t recognize hers either. Must be somebody new her father had hired since the last time she’d been there.

“Sorry, ma’am, he’s not here. What can I do for ya?”

“When will he be available, please?”

“Now, ma’am, I don’t guess I’m at liberty to say until I know exactly who it is I’m speaking at.”

God, men could be so arrogant. Why did he need to know who was calling? A simple answer would suffice.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but this is Ally Kincaid. Who exactly are you?”

“Well, well, isn’t this a nice surprise? Miss Ally Kincaid. Did your father know you’d be calling?

She gritted her teeth in frustration. Who does this cocky, know-it-all cowboy think he is?
