Formula for Love

BLURB:
Kenneth Hailey, an uptight conservative mathematician, believes he's in control. After all, every problem can be solved in a deliberate and logical manner. Even love. When his fiancée dumps him for his best friend, he leaves Manhattan for the West Coast. What better place to forget his past. It's 1967, and San Francisco is the place to turn on, tune in, and drop out.
But is he ready for Rose Red?
Rose Red, a free-spirited flower child, challenges Kenneth, thrusting him into her world of love-ins, protest rallies, and rock concerts. Kenneth finds himself falling down a rabbit hole, hanging on for dear life.
Old habits die hard, and he retreats, but Rose Red has other plans for him.
Read an excerpt:
The garish two-story Victorian stood majestically like a silent film queen that had seen better days. Chipped paint complemented the sagging porch. The porch creaked under Kenneth’s weight, and he sank down on a ratty sofa. A spring bit into his backside, and he scooted to the edge of the cushioned seat.
Rose stood by the front door, making a striking contrast to the purple walls and pink trim. A row of faceted crystals hung in the bay window, casting rainbows across her face. In the driveway sat a bus, wildly painted with flowers, paisley shapes, and peace signs in neon green, yellow, and red. On the side of the bus, in rounded letters, was the name Magic Fantastic Carnival.
Kenneth eyed the bus warily, and then turned his attention to the front door. “I should go.”
Rose sat on the armrest and slid his glasses off. Their gazes locked.
Rose’s lashes flashed in the sunlight as she leaned toward him. “Oh, my, so blue,” she whispered as her mouth parted.
The smell of musk wafted from Rose’s blouse. Kenneth’s breath hitched and he clutched the seat cushion. She was going to kiss him, and he wanted that kiss. When her hand lit on his shoulder, a thrill rippled through him. All rational thought skipped his mind. But he didn’t care, because for one moment he could be someone other than straight, uptight Kenneth Hailey.
Rose’s lower lip was slightly plump and her upper lip met it in a perfect bow. He’d kiss her there first and then bring her taste inside of him. Kissing Rose would be nothing like kissing Priscilla. His ex-girlfriend kissed with precision, and their lovemaking followed a set routine. He’d bet Rose loved with abandon, not afraid to get messy.
Kenneth touched her cheek, but before he could seize the moment, Rose sat back and broke the spell.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
There’s nothing better than reading a good book over an espresso, watching a movie, trying out a new restaurant with close friends or laughing hysterically with my sisters. Some of my favorite movies reveal the truth, that I am a sentimental girl at heart: When Harry Met Sally, Something's Gotta Give, Latter Days, Lord of the Rings, Sense and Sensibility and North and South (the BBC series).
What inspires me - the reality that romance between lovers is a hope more than a guarantee. My stories are an eclectic mix of contemporary and paranormal, but it is always romance that drives the story to its final happily-ever-after.
