The Fighting Lancasters

Chrysanthemum Lancaster is a geek to the core. The youngest of three children, all geniuses, and yet they have trouble fitting into their own family. Chrys has always felt stupid when compared with her elder brother the financial wizard, and ugly when beside her older international super model sister. The only place she feels comfortable is on the computer where no one can see her. When their father is killed, the three Lancaster’s must quit their bickering and find a way to get along. While her siblings believe the police report that it was an accident, wrong place, wrong time, Chrys takes it into her own hands and contact an old hacker buddy to help her discover the truth. Along the way the three siblings find themselves embroiled in a bitter fight between Lancaster Pharmaceuticals and the Board of Directors accusing them of stealing and selling the three patent pending serum breakthroughs on the big C to the highest bidder.

Nicholas Porter aka The Dark Knight, at one time was well on his way to a life behind bars for hacking into the Government database, the National Treasury, and the White House for the fun of it. Thanks to his current boss, who saw the brilliance in him, he now works for the FBI Cyber Crimes Team. When his old sidekick, 4n0m@ly, contacts him begging for his computer skills to uncover a murderer, three things soon become abundantly clear: 1) Can he use his Federal skills to help an old friend? 2) Will he have to break a promise to the man who saved his life? 3) What happens when 4n0m@ly turns out to be a very pretty female trying to save her family legacy, find a killer behind the death of her father, and if it’s the same person who stole the secret recipe that was about to go public as a cure for Cancer.

Read an excerpt:
“Is this an honest conversation?”

“Of course! Why?”

“Because I’m twenty-four years old and this is the first time you’ve ever had a conversation with me.”

“Come on, Chrys, don’t play stupid, it doesn’t become you. You were Mother and Father’s favorite.”

“Bull that’s you and Frank.” Chrys clutched her head.

“Seriously?” Lily stood up and glared down at her.

“Do you have any idea what it’s like having to live up to the fact that Frank’s the financial whiz who made his first million before he turned twenty-one? And then there’s Princess Lily. The beauty and the brains. You’ve been on every continent in the world, worn the most incredible gowns, mingled with royalty, and rubbed elbows with the handsomest men on the planet. How’s a computer nerd supposed to compete with that?”

“You’re joking, right?” Lily said.

“Between you and Frank, I didn’t stand a chance. Do you know what my handle is?”

“What’s a handle?”

Chrys chuckled. “My online name in the computer chat rooms. It’s Anomaly. Do you know what an anomaly is? Look it up, you’ll find my picture and the definition: one that is abnormal or doesn’t fit in. Why do you think I hang out on the computer? It’s my hiding place.”

About Deb Julienne

Deb Julienne is a USA Today Bestselling Author. While some say truth is stranger than fiction, Deb’s experience runs more along the lines of a slap-stick comedy. She believes when life tosses you lemons the only thing to do is to turn it into Limoncello. In fact, her life has been one big fat romantic comedy…of errors. It’s not a matter of “if” it can go wrong, but how bad when it does happen, and make no mistake…it will. Survival with a sense of humor is the goal.

Review of Don't Let Him Go (I Want Morrison Book 1) by Kay Harris

Kay Harris delivers a new novel that kicks off a brand new series of quick romances that take you and the characters on a roller coaster ride of emotion. I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. You'll also find affiliate links here, which may help me earn a few extra pennies in case you choose to make a purchase through them. Be sure to check out the excerpt and my review and then enter the giveaway below. If you comment, Kay will respond. And following the tour gives you plenty more chances to win!

Don't Let Him Go

Candace Gleason passed the bar, landed a great job, and is making a killer salary--basically, all of her dreams are coming true. Until she’s assigned to keep the boss’s petulant son out of trouble.

Jack Morrison is the rebellious black sheep of a mighty real estate family. He runs a nonprofit whose mission is to save poor people from evil corporations, like the one his own family owns. He is obnoxious, ridiculously charming, and insanely hot. He is the bane of Candace’s very existence.

Sparks fly from the moment they meet. Candace suddenly has more to worry about than keeping Jack out of jail. She has to keep him out of her heart.

Read an excerpt:
I folded my arms across my chest and glared at Jack as he moseyed into the room. “You ambushed me.”

Jack came to a stop a few feet away and nodded. “I did.”

“That’s it?” I spread my arms out and leaned forward. My voice rose despite my effort to control it. “That’s all you have to say?”

“What do you want me to say? You’re smart. You can see what I did back there. I used you for my own gain.”

“You’re a prick!”

“I’m not surprised you feel that way. But I am sorry you had to get caught in the crossfire.” He moved to the couch and took a seat in the middle of it, purposefully giving me the high ground.

He slung his arms over the back of the couch casually, making him look like an arrogant ass. And that is exactly what I thought of him at that moment. So I called him on his supposed apology. “Are you?”

“Yes, I am. But you’re not innocent, Candie. You put yourself in this position by going to work for Morrison.”

“It’s Candace!” I shouted, on the edge of insanity.

He didn’t respond. He just looked at me with that infuriatingly handsome face and waited, an amused grin dancing on his face.

**My thoughts**

Yes, this is another one of those stories where the main character falls head over heels for the rich leading man and they tumble into a quick and intense romance. But what is different this time, to me, is the growth that the two characters go through as the story progresses. Candace grew up with a couple of hippies always fighting the good fight, but always wanted to live the rich, lavish life. Jack grew up in that rich, lavish life, and preferred to be the one fighting the good fight. It's these opposite ideals in life that actually make them perfectly compatible in every way because they complement each other so well. It turns out they actually want the same things out of life, only use different tactics to get there. And they need each other to pull it off.

The fire in their relationship is based on their individual intensities. That intensity fuels the fire more and more, creating a passion for love and each other, but also a passion in their own lives and what they do. Another thing I liked about this story is how that passion contributes to events over time that prevent them from having a perfect storybook romance. They have one huge defining battle and a then a couple more sprinkled along the way. That part gives more of a sense of realism in their relationship.

I will admit that I still do have a hard time with these super intense, quick romances. And I'm not sure if I could be so forgiving so quickly for what appears to be a huge betrayal. Nevertheless, this book was an enjoyable way to spend a cold winter's evening. It's very clear that there is to be another book in  the series, thanks to a cliffhanger in the epilogue. But fear not, cliffhanger haters. The main story is clearly resolved and this was just meant as a bit of a teaser of what is to come should you decide to continue with the series. You should feel fulfilled.

Read an excerpt from The Truth Inside by Trish Edmisten and enter the giveaway!

Please note that affiliate links are present within this post. Should you make a purchase through one, I may earn a small commission to help support my websites.

The Truth Inside

For as long as he can remember, Nate’s dreamed of being an MMA fighter. Nothing is going to stand in his way and no one is going to distract him. Everything is going according to plan when Natalie comes along. Even though he wasn’t looking for love, Nate can’t help falling fast and hard. Smart, sweet and supportive, she seems too good to be true, but it’s actually the other way around. Nate isn’t good enough for her, and he’s keeping a secret that will change everything between them. One day, she’ll see the truth inside of him. Until then, Nate’s determined to keep Natalie in his life for as long as he can.

Read an excerpt:
Scooting forward until their knees touched, Natalie reached up and framed his face with her hands. “It doesn’t change anything between us, Nate.”

“It changes everything.”

“The only thing that changes is now I know. That’s it, nothing else.”

“It really doesn’t matter to you?”

Nate still looked doubtful, but she wasn’t surprised. Having spent his whole life being confused by and ridiculed for what he was, she knew better than to expect it to be easy to convince him it wasn’t a deal breaker.

“It matters, but it doesn’t change the way I feel about you.”

A hint of wonder sparked in his eyes. “How is that possible?”

“Would it matter to you if I’d been born male?”

“No, but that’s different.”

“It’s really not. I fell in love with who you are, not what you are. You may have been born a female, but you’re not. You never have been.”

“I still have ”

Natalie pressed a finger to his lips, cutting off his words. “What’s between your legs doesn’t make a difference to me. It isn’t what I fell in love with.”

Tears glistened in his eyes as he took a shaky breath. “You say that now, but you haven’t seen what’s under my clothes.”

“I don’t have to see what’s under your clothes to decide how I feel about you. The only parts of your body I care about are the parts that make you who you are,” Natalie said softly. “Your heart and your mind are what matters.”

Racing the Tide

Racing the Tide, Book one in the TETRAD Group series.

Cole and Gabby, undercover in Vancouver’s Chinatown, have no time for the attraction developing between them. Not when the race is on to rescue a kidnap victim before time runs out.

My name is Cole McClintock. My new job with the TETRAD Group has me working with a woman that’s gotten me so tied up in unfuckingbelievable knots that I’m a certifiable nut job. I mean, just look at her. The woman is beyond hot with those big doe eyes and luscious curves that makes me want to possess every single inch of her.

One look at Cole McClintock and knew I should stay right the fuck away from him. My name is Gabriella Banks and I’d be the first to admit I’m complicated, but at least my job as a new operative with The TETRAD Group keeps me too busy to dwell on my lack of a sex life. I never thought I’d be admitting this, but my strong-woman exterior hides a craving for something more—something only Cole can provide…

Read an excerpt:
“Hey, you in there or in La La Land? Just one more, sis, okay? I need a little more time to catch that new guy’s eye,” Celine stage-whispered in her ear. She nodded in the direction of a man striding toward them. He sat at an empty table less than eight feet away. Hmm. He looked like the kind of guy who thought he was every woman’s fantasy, his polished yet scruffy appearance a ploy at pretending he didn’t care. She’d bet he used one of those special razors that kept his beard that precise length. No one was that good-looking without doing a little something.

A big, wide-shouldered man, he wasn’t dressed like the rest of the patrons, having opted for a black T-shirt and faded blue jeans. He spoke to the waitress in a gravelly voice, asking about takeout, and she handed him a menu. He glanced over, checking both of them out then coming back to lock eyes with her for that split second that men and women share in bars.

Only this time, the effect was paralyzing. His eyes were whiskey-brown and shadowed. And they were hard. Flint hard. Every line of muscle in his handsome face was tight and tense. Worry or something more disturbing? The corner of his mouth twitched into a semblance of a smile that didn’t reached his eyes. The air between them crackled with tension like a direct hit from a lightning bolt. What the hell? Her lips parting, she took a sharp intake of breath, steadying herself. Then he looked away, breaking eye contact. She swallowed hard. Whoa. What just happened?

“What? That pretty boy?” Gabby said, whispering into her sister’s ear, pretending indifference. She twisted in the chair, facing another direction. She’d seen way too much of what men were capable to ever fall for someone who looked that full of himself. Or that good.

About January Bain

January Bain has wished on every falling star, every blown-out birthday candle, and every coin thrown in a fountain to be a storyteller. To share the tales of high adventure, mysteries, and full blown thrillers she has dreamed of all her life. The story you now have in your hands is the compilation of a lot of things manifesting itself for this special series. Hundreds of hours spent researching the unusual and the mundane have come together to create a series that features strong women who don’t take life too seriously, wild adventures full of twists and unforeseen turns, and hot complicated men who aren’t afraid to take risks. She can only hope the stories of her beloved Brass Ringers will capture your imagination as you follow their exploits as much as they did when she wrote them.

If you are looking for January Bain, you can find her hard at work every morning without fail in her office with two furry babies trying to prove who does a better job of guarding the doorway. And, of course, she’s married to the most romantic man! First Impressions

Two years ago I made a mistake, a big one, and then I threw in another couple just for good measure. I screwed up my life big time but I made it through. I was lucky.

Then I was given the opportunity for a fresh start. Two years in Auckland, NZ, ‘The City of Sails’. Away from the LA gossip, a chance to breathe, to get my life back together.

I grabbed it and packed my new set of golden rules with me.

I don’t do relationships.
I don’t do commitment.
I don’t do white picket fences.

And I especially don’t do arrogant, holier-than-thou, smoking hot K9 officers who walk into my ER and rock my world.

The only thing I know for certain about Dr. Michael Oliver is the guy is an arrogant, untrustworthy player, and I’d barely survived the last one of those in my life. Once was more than enough.

The man might be gorgeous but my eleven-year-old daughter takes number one priority and I won’t risk her being hurt, again. I’m a solo dad, a K9 cop and a son to pain in the ass, bigoted parents.

I don’t have time for games.
I don’t have time for taking chances.
I don’t have time for more complications in my life.

And I sure as hell don’t have time for the infuriating Dr. Michael Oliver, however damn sexy he is.

Read an excerpt:
Josh was fuming. Fast pitch was one of the few activities he got to enjoy on his own and now he had to put up with Michael freaking Oliver. Arriving at Kendrick’s he’d immediately collared Mark at the bar as the guy was buying a round.

“What the hell, man? Whose idea was it to invite him?”

His friend plastered a huge grin on his face and held up his hands in surrender. “Nothing to do with me, mate. Boss man just asked me to deliver him.”

“And you couldn’t think of any reason that wouldn’t be a good idea?”

“What was I going to say?” Mark studied his friend. “And honestly, he seems a good guy and he plays a solid game.”

“I don’t give a flying fuck if he plays like Nathan Nukunuku, he’s an asshole.”

“Funny, that’s what he called you.”

“Wait. He called me an asshole?”

Mark snorted. “Lighten up, Josh. Anyone would think you actually liked the guy.”

“Fuck off.”

Mark whacked him on the back of his head.

“Ow,” Josh protested.

“Suck it up. You deserved it. So, the guy was cruising, so what? Oh. My. God. What a scandal. And he even got lucky with a gorgeous young man, well good for him. It’s not a crime. And besides, he’s hot. And he hit on you. I would think that was reassuring, that you haven’t lost it. You’re both obviously hot for each other.”

“I’m a father of an eleven-year-old girl.”

“And that came with getting your dick cut off, did it?”

“You wouldn’t understand,” Josh dismissed the comment.

In a rowboat. Trapped. Up for ransom. My captor’s name is Molly, and Molly is having much too much fun eyeing me and tormenting me— a cat toying with a mouse. The difficulty is that, after the emptiness of my aristocratic existence, I’m not absolutely averse to being played with.

Read an exclusive excerpt:
They say that when a person cheats, their partner can usually sense it. Something intuitive kicks in; a sudden sense that the dynamics of the relationship have changed. It’s in the whispered phone calls taken in the next room, the late nights at the office, the emotional distance, the distractedness.

On the bus ride home, Belle turned it over in her head a thousand times. How had she missed the signs? They’d been flashing at her like neon lights and still she’d missed them. The long nights at the office, the change in Ben’s behaviour, the reluctance to see her. There’d been no gruelling case, no urgent meetings that he’d had to dash off to. He’d been cheating on her with another woman.

The bus dropped her two blocks from home and she fought her way through the Friday night revellers on Darling Street to reach her flat. Her hair had come loose from its braids and sat in matted strands across her face. She pushed it out of her eyes as tears dripped down her nose and people stared at her with expressions of curiosity and pity.

She let herself in the door and went to the kitchen to pour herself a drink. The sounds of the bars and restaurants filtered up into her flat. She tried to ignore the laughter and music as she twisted off the lid of a bottle of Vodka. She didn’t think she would ever laugh again.

She crumpled onto the couch and took a sip. Straight up. It slid seductively down her throat, burned her stomach, and she waited for the mind-numbing cloudiness to hit. How could Ben have done this to her? She hadn’t even realised they’d been having problems. Were they having problems? She couldn’t name or define them if they existed. They’d been invisible to her, at least.

She felt like a fool. There she was making him dinner, linguine primavera, no less, while he was upstairs in his bed having sex with another woman! Not sweet, tender, loving sex either. It had been hot and furious sex. The kind of sex that she and Ben were definitely not having.

To think that Ben could be intimate like that with another woman, that the hands and lips that knew her body so well were touching someone else’s. He’d broken a delicate bond, severed a sacred trust.

I thought you’d gotten rid of her.

She sniffed back her tears and curled her knees up to her chest. She didn’t sip from the glass this time—she gulped from it and poured another. She checked her phone. There was a missed call from her mother, another from Riley. There was still nothing from Ben.

She pushed the phone aside and peeled off her floury apron, rolling it into a ball and tossing it onto the floor. She lay down on the couch, sinking her head into the cushions. She didn’t have the energy to speak to anyone, didn’t want to relay to her mother or Riley what had happened, what she was still trying to process herself. All she wanted to do was to close her eyes and wish the whole terrible nightmare away.

The man she once thought an arrogant a$$hole is more than meets the eye, and nothing makes that clearer than the relationship he has with his five-year-old daughter, Victoria. As the once-broken doctor and his lonely nanny draw closer together, there’s no ignoring the connection that sparks up between them. They could be the perfect match, except Enrique is willing to do anything and everything to get her back, no matter the consequences.
