Read an excerpt:
I turned left, headed toward the direction of bedrooms, and stopped when I reached the main en suite bedroom. This must be Julian’s room. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it wouldn’t get the better of me, so I dared.

I dropped my bag on the floor and walked into the master suite, which featured two dimly lit lamps and a king-size bed with a charcoal duvet and matching pillows. The unmade bed was the only untidy element in this otherwise clean home, indicative of either his most recent sexual activity or his forgetfulness to make the bed up. I doubted that it was the latter. As I walked past the bed, I noticed leather handcuffs on the crumpled duvet. The soothing sound of water running in the shower caught my attention, enticing me to take a sneak peek in the bathroom.

The bathroom door was left open at a forty-five-degree angle, and the pull of temptation gravitated me toward it. I was curious. I usually did not pry into the privacy of others, but I had never seen a naked man in real life, and I was ready to find out.

Oh, my lord! There he was in the shower, a beautiful man in all his splendor and glory. Julian was wet and naked, reminding me of the marble statue of the biblical, nude David by Michelangelo. Droplets of water ran down his hard, taut, body, all the way to the curve of his muscular back and firm buttocks, then along his sturdy legs. He rinsed the soap off his broad shoulders, chest and slim waist. His body tapered down like a perfect V, and delicate veins ran along his muscular forearms. His penis was thick and admirable, even in its relaxed state, and his testicles hung below. Eyes closed, he lifted his head to absorb the streaming water, and ran his long fingers through his hair, washing out the remaining shampoo foam, which flowed downward.

The heavenly sight of Julian in his nakedness, together with the fresh scent of the citrus body wash, triggered my nipples to harden and the inner walls of my vagina to clench, eliciting a wetness that coated my labia.

Julian’s eyes opened and fluttered rapidly, making direct contact with mine. “OH, FUCK!”

“Oh shit, I’m so sorry! I was looking for a spare toothbrush and didn’t realize you were here!” I babbled in a flustered state. I was a bad liar.

He turned off the shower faucet, grabbed a towel, and started to dry himself slowly.

“Did you enjoy the show, Sapphire?” Julian smiled smugly, emphasizing my name when he spoke.

“I, uh, I’m staying over with Vera tonight, as we’re heading out for a girls’ night. I hope that’s okay with y-you,” I stammered.

“Oh, it’s more than okay with me, love. However, you haven’t answered my question.” Julian’s mischievous eyes dangerously twinkled with devilish delight.

“I like what I see,” I admitted, gazing at the towel, which he now wrapped neatly around his firm torso.

“Good. Now, come here, baby. Touch me.”

I took one step closer to Julian and stroked the blade of his left shoulder with my right hand. My fingers traveled down his chest and stomach, drawing him to release a groan of pleasure.

“That’s it. Lower.”

“Lower?” I gasped.

“Yes. Further down south, if you get my drift.”

My fingers traveled below his navel and down to where the towel met his skin.

“Stop.”

“Stop?” I raised my eyebrows.

“Yes, stop,” he commanded.

Julian’s hands swiftly reached around my neck and untied my halterneck top, exposing my bare breasts to him.

“You’re exquisite.” His long, dark lashes lowered as he gazed at my topless body. I sucked in the citrus-flavored air as he began rubbing my nipples in circular motions with his rough thumbs.

Read an exclusive excerpt from Arresting the Warlord by Gail Koger

What I love about excerpt tours is that you get to read a wide variety of excerpts from the book and never the same one twice as you follow the tour. So welcome to today's exclusive excerpt from this sci-fi romance, Arresting the Warlord by Gail Koger. Be sure to let her know what you think in the comments as you go along and best of luck in the giveaway!

CeeCee Tsosie is a Navajo Nation police officer and shaman with the ability to control the weather. She’ll admit arresting Jake Jones, a Coletti Warlord, for speeding was not one of her better decisions. But hey, the law was the law and the drop-dead gorgeous warlord pushed every one of her buttons. She might have been a tad over-zealous with her rainstorm and stun gun, but the Jackass had it coming.

An alien serial killer is stalking the Navajo Nation. The Coletti Empire is hunting a galactic fugitive. Turns out they need each other’s help to stop the shapeshifting predator. Can she work with the Jackass? Can Jake convince CeeCee she’s the one? Only time, and the spirits will tell.

Read an exclusive excerpt:
The Jackass gave me a gotcha smile. “Zarek thought your people were hiding something. You’re psychic and I’m placing you under arrest.”

“Nice try, but I’m also a shaman and according to our treaty, you can’t touch me.”

His eyes narrowed. “That cloudburst was you, wasn’t it?”

“Me?” I admired the bright turquoise sky. There wasn’t a cloud in sight. “The weather can be funny out here. You should have put the top up.”

“It’s broken,” he admitted testily.

“Place your hands on the hood of your car,” I ordered, taking out my cuffs.

“You aren’t arresting me,” Jackass snapped.

I smiled brightly. “Yes, I am.”

With a snarl, the Jackass reached for me.

I hit him with my freeze ray. I knew it was a bad idea, but he needed to be taught a lesson.

His eyes widened in shock and he struggled to move.

“You were warned.” Pulling out my modified stun gun, I zapped him and watched the big, bad warlord crash to the ground.

“You’re going to regret this,” Jackass growled in my head.

Probably. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. If I were you, I’d shut the hell up.”

“How are you going to get me in your patrol car?”

“Watch and learn.” I linked with Uncle Jesse. “I need a car towed at milepost 260.”

“Five minutes out,” Uncle Jesse answered.

I cuffed the Jackass and patted his face. “Don’t go anywhere.”

A killing rage simmered in his amber eyes.

I opened the back door to my patrol car.

“I won’t fit.”

Hmmm. He was a big dude, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. Getting my small anti-gravity sled out of the trunk, I slid it under his body and lifted him up.

“I’m telling you I won’t fit.

“Oopsy-daisy.” I dumped him headfirst into the backseat of my patrol car. He landed face down on the floorboard and his legs were bent at an awkward angle. “See. You fit.”

“Paybacks are a bitch.”

“Keep it up and I’ll add threatening a police officer to your charges.”

Uncle Jesse pulled up in his old tow truck, leaned out the driver’s window and whistled. “Nice car.”

“It has a little water damage,” I said, shutting the car door.

“You’re paying for the repairs, female,” Jackass stated.

“The name’s Officer Tsosie and I think not. Do you have any hard, cold evidence that I made it rain in your car?”

“Fuck.”

“Didn’t think so.” I walked over to the Mustang and started a vehicle inventory. Jackass had one small suitcase, a bottle of water and a bag of chocolate kisses. A guy who liked chocolate couldn’t be all bad. Could he? Vicious curses erupted from the backseat of my patrol car. Then again.

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea of what a real emergency is. Take this for an example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am, but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone, I took up writing.

Read an excerpt:
Out in the middle of nowhere, with no clothes, and smelling the equivalent of filet mignon, his wolf had set him up well. Torn between the desire to investigate the fragrance, and maintaining human societal norms of modesty, Aric lingered under the cover of bushes and trees.

CRACK!

Metaphorical thunderbolts splintered before his eyes. Pain shot through his skull as he flew forward bracing himself on all fours. Aric’s hand reached to the back of his head protectively and to check for bleeding.

“What the fuck!?” he rumbled in confusion.

“Who are you?” a feminine voice demanded.

Lifting his chest, getting to his knees, Aric turned toward the sound of crunching leaves beneath shuffling feet. Blinking a few times did nothing to cure his double vision. He assumed he had a concussion. If he had been human, he’d be unconscious. The pain in his head throbbed while Aric struggled to see properly.

“W-wh-why are you naked?” the female voice questioned him.

Rising to his feet, Aric shifted his position, in an attempt to both hide the chubby semi-erection and to offer some modesty. It must have been interpreted as a sign of aggression.

Aric heard the whoosh and put his arm up to block the giant branch the female wielded as a weapon. The vibration of pain ricocheted up his forearm when it collided with the impromptu weapon. Aric howled and his eyes watered.

Aric twisted his wrist, wrapped his fingers around the branch, and yanked. It came loose from her hands quickly. He tossed the stick away and thanked his supernatural genes and the strength given to him by his wolf, who, oddly, pranced about within him with elation rather than recognizing the aggression the woman showed toward them.

“Wha—” she gasped.

Still unable to see her clearly, the blurry female form stepped back from him. Aric wobbled slightly and fell to his knees again for stability.

Once his vision slowly returned to normal, and in the glow of the moon, he gasped when he finally laid focused eyes on her visage. Her high cheekbones, plump lips, golden skin tone stunned him. His mouth fell open. The mass of dark waves pulled into a messy pony shimmered in the moonlight giving her a halo effect. Aric felt as if he knelt at the feet of a goddess.

She wore an extremely large, faded, hooded sweatshirt and tight jeans. Aric lifted himself to a standing position on shaky knees. He stood several inches over her at his full height. His wolf howled within him while he fought the wolf’s urge to grab the woman. It did nothing to ease the pounding pain in his head from her attack.

“You’re magnificent,” he murmured.

The unknown female took another step away from him.

“Uh, thanks?” she said.

Her pale blue eyes darted left and right, as though she searched for an escape route.

The throbbing pain in the back of his head dulled as he studied her. He absentmindedly
raised a hand and rubbed at the place where she had struck him. The semi was now a full-on raging erection and proudly protruded from his pelvis as if to salute her.

Aric’s face heated when her eyes dipped to it. Her cheeks reddened. She held a hand over her mouth.

“Oh my God!” she gasped.

Her expression reflected panic. She bent her knees prepared to run. Her eyes sought the best escape route.

“No. Don’t,” Aric protested, surprising himself.

She paused. The female stared at him, bewildered.

He brought both his hands over his crotch. “Sorry.”

“Why are you naked?” she demanded a second time.

“Uh,” Aric stalled. For some reason, he didn’t think telling her he had just shifted from wolf to human form would be a good idea. Humans tended to freak out when confronted with creatures they thought were mythical. Plus, there was the whole death thing, if the council found out about a supernatural being outing himself to humans. They took that shit super serious. Aric liked his life. He liked it even more, having met this female.

Parallels between author Bob Liter and his main character in the Nick Bancroft mystery series

Authors often put a lot of themselves into characters in their books. Bob Liter's daughter sees a lot of her father in Nick Bancroft, the starring character in his mystery series. Today she's telling us about it, plus there's an excerpt to enjoy. Check out the whole series and be sure to follow the tour! Plus enter the great giveaway at the end.

************************************

There are many parallels between the author Bob Liter and Nick Bancroft. I should know, I am Bob Liter’s daughter, Martie Liter Ogborn. While preparing Dad’s books for publication discovered how much of himself he put into the character Nick Bancroft. For comparison, here are a few examples of hard-boiled and soft-boiled Bob Liter.

Years ago, when I was old enough to date, my Dad, Bob Liter saw me kissing a boyfriend in the foyer of the local bowling alley. When I got home that night I was met at the door, sat down
, and given a long lecture on the inappropriateness of kissing in public and how important it was not to give the impression of being a slut. At 17, I didn’t even know what a slut was, probably because of a sheltered Midwestern upbringing. On the soft-boiled side of this same picture, just a few months later, my Dad went out of his way to tell a woman I babysat for “Thank you” for helping me get birth control pills.

Dad applied the English proverb “children should be seen and not heard” to my sister, brother, and me when it came to engaging in childish conversations in the living room during a television show he was watching. Sometime that meant a paddle was applied to the perps back side. On a sentimental note my sister, Jeannie, said the only time she remembered our Dad, Bob Liter, crying was when the family dog, Whiskey, died.

Back to the Point of Murder, you decide if Nick Bancroft is favoring the soft-boiled side of things or the hard-boiled side as he nails the killer of his friend and exposes Centrel City’s hidden secrets.

IN THIS "GRIPPING" MYSTERY THRILLER SOMEONE TRIES TO BURN NICK BANCROFT ALIVE, BEATS HIM SENSELESS, USES HIM FOR TARGET PRACTICE AND WORST OF ALL HIS BELOVED CHICAGO CUBS DISAPPOINT HIM AGAIN! SOMETIMES A PI JUST CAN'T CATCH A BREAK! BUT WHEN HIS CLIENT IS A SEXY NUDIST, NICK BANCROFT WILL PUT UP WITH JUST ABOUT ANYTHING!

When a sexy nudist hires him to protect her from whoever is threatening her life, Nick Bancroft becomes the target. Someone tries to burn him alive, beats the hell out of him and, since that didn't run him off, uses him for target practice. Meanwhile, two people are murdered, Nick's true love, Maggie Atley, is more than somewhat perturbed by his relationship with his client, and a mysterious club seems to hold the answer. Nick survives an exciting but still losing season by his beloved Chicago Cubs, a vicious attack by a couple of huge dogs and eventually puts the finger on the bad guys.

Nick Bancroft Mysteries, written by Bob Liter

I'm an ex-newspaper reporter who inherited a run-down, one-man detective agency. My name is Nick Bancroft. I used to do investigation work occasionally for a friend Jimmy Jackson, who left me the business and stuck me with an office on the top floor of an old building in the wrong end of town.

I would have refused the inheritance, but I was sick of working where news had been converted to entertainment. And, besides, Jimmy had paid six months’ rent in advance for the office with a small apartment attached. Since I inherited the business I have helped solve a murder and got some press as a result.

In a small town like Centrel City, you can find bribery, graft, kickbacks, political influence peddling, criminal cover-ups, and sometimes murder. Now when I get involved in a case, there usually is a story I can sell to the upstate Chicago Times. I didn't expect to make a living as a private investigator and freelance reporter, but I was wrong ... sort of. It beats making money for someone else and it leaves time for my almost favorite sport of bowling and my passion for the Chicago Cubs.

It’s all in a day’s work; I can be tough enough when I have to be. On the other hand, I can be soft for the ladies, especially for an on-again off-again lover, Maggie Atley. Nothing is ever as it seems and I don’t quit until I find the answers. My name is Nick Bancroft.

Murder by the Book, written by Bob Liter

Nick Bancroft inherits a rundown detective agency and embarks on a new career as a hard-boiled detective. When date rape drugs show up in Centrel City, so does reporter Nick Bancroft. The drugs are discovered at two different murders with sex etiquette books left at the scenes. Nick is hired by the first victim’s father, Ramsey Sinclair, to find the killer. A Chicago detective, Miss Faustine, is also hired by Mr. Sinclair to work “closely” with Bancroft. His focus is interrupted when he begins a love affair with receptionist, Maggie Atley, from a neighboring office.

Bancroft is banking on solving the murders and selling the story to the Chicago Times. As the case unfolds there is enough danger, drama, and deception to fill a book. Nick finds few things are as they seem and in his enthusiasm he becomes the target of a shooter and also the target of charming Maggie Atley’s affections.

August is Murder, written by Bob Liter

A sexy nudist hires Nick Bancroft to defend her from threats on her life; Nick volunteers to provide 24-hour protection. Now, he is the target and August becomes even hotter when someone tries to burn him alive. Nick is not one to turn tail and run, especially now with two murders and Lady Godiva to protect. Nick's true love, second only to the Cubs and bowling, Maggie Atley, is more than somewhat perturbed by the arrangement with his beautiful client.

After weeks of investigation there are still unanswered questions. Who are the bad guys? What does a mysterious club have to do with the murders? Can Nick survive another losing season by his beloved Chicago Cubs? Is this the last inning for Nick and Maggie?

Death Sting, written by Bob Liter

After an intimate breakfast together, while reading the paper to Maggie, Nick is baffled by a headline: Female Body Found Covered with Stings: The Sheriff Calls the Death an Accident. Free-lance reporter and private detective, Nick Bancroft, doesn’t believe it and is drawn to the case like a bee to honey. He learns the victim lived in a home for young unwed mothers who work as waitresses and hookers at a nightclub.

Murder suspects include an alcoholic handy man, the man and wife who operate the home, a nightclub operator and his henchman, and a sheriff's deputy. Everyone is trying to stop Nick’s investigation, including federal agents.

Even when he and his earthy lover Maggie survive being dumped in a deep lake with weights tied to their ankles, Bancroft is unwavering in his pursuit of the truth. Will Maggie and Nick’s romance sink or swim before the case is solved?

Point of Murder, written by Bob Liter

Nick Bancroft, a former investigative reporter, enjoys a mundane existence in Centrel City operating a one-man detective agency. He supplements his pauper’s wages selling news stories to the Chicago Times. In a small apartment, Nick and his roommate Maggie, share frivolous romantic lovemaking and the responsibility of feeding a stray cat that adopted them. On the surface it seems picture-perfect.

The bed of roses ends abruptly when Nick’s destitute young friend, Bobby Scalf, is found murdered with a blunt six inch spike in his head. Nick becomes a suspect when the second murder victim is discovered in the abandoned building where the boy lived.

While Nick tries to find out who killed the boy, he uncovers a web of corruption involving the town council, the school board, the police chief and the local newspaper publisher. Nick survives several attempts on his life, and that of his stormy lover, before nailing the killer and exposing the town's secrets. Solving the town’s problems may not be enough to solve the problems festering between Maggie and Nick. Is it really over?

And the Band Played On, written by Bob Liter

Freelance reporter and sometime private detective, Nick Bancroft, is tough enough when he has to be. On the other hand, he can be soft for the ladies. That's how he ends up at an outdoor band concert, with Maggie, a librarian, divorcee, and his very talented lover. Nick is front row center to witness the murder of a well-connected private secretary of an important political figure.

It doesn't earn him any points with the cops that he is on the scene before them, and it doesn't earn him any points with certain influential politicians that he won't get off the case. Not only is Nick drawn into the dirty details of the crime, someone is trying to kill him. During the investigation, Maggie and Nick come face to face with the events surrounding 9-11. Will the final case break their spirits and crumble their love, or will they emerge stronger and committed to life together?

Read an excerpt:
And the Band Played On, A Nick Bancroft Mystery - Book 5

A whip-crack sound bit into the air. A scream followed. The director's baton remained frozen in space. An instant of silence was shattered by, "Somebody help. She's bleeding. I think she's been shot."

The screamer stood in the third row to our left on the far side of the amphitheater. I dodged benches and people and raced to the scene. I put my hands on the screamer's shoulders and assured her it would be all right to rest her lungs. She collapsed and edged away from the body of a young woman sprawled on the bench. Blood dripped from the young woman's forehead.

I pressed a finger into her neck. No pulse. She was dead.

"Who is she? Is she really dead? Did anyone call the police?"

I stood on the bench beside the body, ignored the questions, and announced in my best imitation of authority, "Stay back. Don't disturb the scene."

Big Ed, breathing deeply, the cigar clamped at the edge of his mouth, said, "Who put you in charge, Bancroft?"

"Nobody's in charge until the police get here. I'm just trying to preserve the integrity of the scene."

A police siren grew louder and groaned to silence while the patrol car skidded to a stop on the edge of the parking lot. Two cops trotted down into the crowd and muscled their way to the death scene. One of them, Thomas something, a young guy with a square jaw, a big nose and brown eyes, said, "What's going on Mister Bancroft? The caller said someone was shot. We were just a block away."

It is my honor to introduce new readers to the Bancroft Mysteries where the character Nick Bancroft has an uncanny resemblance to my Dad, Bob Liter with his wit and bodacious gutsy approach to life. Then there is Nick’s on-again off-again lady, Maggie Atley, who is just like Mom, Lillian Liter, in the way she deals with a self-proclaimed “male chauvinist piggy.”

While Nick solves mysteries in the fictitious, but very real, community of Central City, IL he still finds time for his love-hate relationship with bowling, and his avid undying passion for the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

Hearts Ablaze (Courageous Hearts Book 2) by Jenni Lovewell

Elena Brookes lived the perfect, worry-free life until the tragic night when her husband was killed in a housefire that she and her son barely escaped. After losing nearly everything and starting a life without the man she thought she’d have forever, Elena was lost.

On the same night, the firefighter who rescued Elena and her son was hospitalized for burns that seared half of his body. Ethan Jones saved two in the fire, but he couldn’t save the third—even after giving his body to the flames. Suffering his first career loss, Ethan knew he’d never recover fully.

When Elena and Ethan finally reconvened years later, the fire that tore them apart was the common ground that finally brought them back together.

Despite a history that should have melded them together for life, can Ethan and Elena pick up the pieces of their broken souls and rekindle the relationship that they long ago lost, or will healing come at too much of a cost?

Jenni has always loved reading, and quickly became addicted to irresistible romances. Ok, she might still be addicted to them.

What she didn't know was that she'd fall in love with writing them too. The feeling of sharing romance stories with others has quickly become even more addicting and irresistible to her.

When she's not writing her next tasty story, she's probably enjoying a cup of coffee with her two dogs and listening to her husband's crazy business ideas. They live together in Indiana and are incredibly grateful for your support and for the opportunity to make your day a little bit warmer.

Get a FREE copy of Hero of the Heart (Witmer Warriors) by Jean Stokes

Who doesn't love a free read? Today I'm sharing with you a military romance that you can download for free from BookFunnel. Just be sure to leave your reviews on Goodreads and Amazon when you're finished reading it!

What happens when a girl is forced into a situation that she didn’t sign up for?

Something like a marriage that she doesn’t believe in perhaps...you get me.

I left behind my life in the city in search of something new.

A place where no one knew me, I had no family, and my mistakes remained in the past.

But when I arrive in the sleepy town of Witmer, I don’t know what it was I expected, but it certainly wasn’t what I got.

The surprise came in the form of a boulder of a man, with a cold personality to match. The kind of man that, like poking a bear, you tend to avoid.

So, don’t ask me what it was that drew me to my new neighbor Aaron Willet. Perhaps it was the brooding, or his insanely muscular arms, or even perhaps the fact that he wasn’t showing a direct interest in me.

Whatever it is, I feel a need to know him.

But this isn’t just a sleepy town like it might appear on the surface. There’s trouble brewing in Witmer. A family that wants to make trouble for the rest of us.

I won’t let that happen, and neither will my stubborn and rather arrogant neighbor, even if he won’t open up to me.

Author's Note
This is the Witmer story of Talia and Aaron, an enemies to lovers military romance in a small town western setting with an independent heroine, an alpha hero, a dash of humor, no cheating and a guaranteed happily ever after! There is a healthy dose of steamy scenes. There is no cliffhanger and can be read standalone but is ideally read as the first in the Witmer series as you will love the characters and want to find out what happens to them. What are you waiting for?

Best Friend's Baby (A Billion Scandals Book 3) by L.A. Pepper

I’ve harboured a secret crush on him for half my life,
But everyone knows friends with benefits never work out….

To me it was special. Perfect.
But happily ever afters only happen in fairy tales, right?
He was being groomed to take over his father's billion-dollar empire.
And I was a dirty little secret.

The perfect family, the perfect life, the perfect future.
The last thing he needs...
A scandal like me hitting the press.
To say things are complicated is the understatement of the century.

This baby inside me isn’t the only secret I’m carrying,
Before I walk away forever,
Before I break my own heart…
I have to tell him what I’ve been hiding.

Even if it means he hates me.
Even if I have to raise our son alone.

More Than Enough by Randal Stevens

Justin Manning, an independent individual, goes through high school smoothly. It was time for college, which is what he’s been waiting for. It was the last step towards his pursing his career in logistics.

Everything starts okay; classes are great and he’s a star quarterback with the cheerleading captain, Riley Scott, by his side. That is, until everything went downhill.

Riley soon became set on getting our lives started right away, not wanting to wait any longer. She became the one with the pants on, setting direction and making decisions on what she wanted.

It affected Justin in ways he never thought was possible, until it became possible.
