Interview with Harlie Williams, author of 'The Couple'

Today, I would like to welcome Harlie Williams, author of The Couple, to the blog. What do you love about cowboys? Let us know!

What was the inspiration behind 'The Couple'?

Actually Phil and Claire from Modern Family.  If you have never seen the show, its hilarious.  I highly recommend it.  We never miss it at our house.

What is it about cowboys that makes them so sexy?

They are honest, hard worker, loyal and love their family fiercely.  Plus, come on George Straight in his Wranglers and Tim McGraw in his well worn Levi's...  *fans self*

What are some of your favorite books about cowboys?

Anything by Regina Carlysle, Randi Alexander, Desiree Holt and Beth Williamson.

If you can't have a cowboy, what would your backup man be?

Blue Collar worker...construction, painter, welder, etc.  I like a man that puts in a hard day's at work and comes home with the sweat and dirt to prove it.

What are you reading right now?

Just finished No Strings Attached by Kelly Jamison.  Starting Saffron Nights.

When did you know that you wanted to be a writer?

LOL!  I still haven't.  I wanted to be a teacher and teach literature.  Writing was never in my mind.
Do you have any other projects in the works?

Actually I have a contemporary set in small town Oklahoma about two people that grew up together but were never romantically linked until a funeral brings them together.  Also, a romantic suspense with a paranormal thread woven in.  That one is giving me fits right now.

What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?

I wanted to dance on Broadway.  Yep, NY City Rockettes and then Broadway.  Unfortunately, I'm only 5'6" and that's considered "short" for a dancer in the chorus line.  *sigh*  I learned that when I tried out for the Kilgore Rangerettes college team.  *double sigh*  Didn't make the team.

Anything else you would like to share?

I hope you like my little diddy about a couple that reunites.

Thanks for your time!

I’m just a city girl living in a small East Texas town. As a child, I devoured books but writing a book was never in the equation. Teaching literature to high school students was my goal. After being in a corporate cube for over 25 years, I’m a stay at home mom. I started writing as a dare and here I am. I’m married to my own hero and a mother to an awesome son. He has no idea that his momma wrote a book. He just knows that momma spends a lot of time on the computer.

Read an excerpt:

“What’s a girl like you doing at a bar like this?” he asked.

Her voice was a purr, like a cat well satisfied with its stolen pitcher of cream. “I’m looking for someone special.”

Hoping that she meant him he asked, “Did you find him yet?”

“Maybe.” The glint in her eye told him he was definitely in the running. However, I’m not looking to hook up with just any old cowboy. He must be able to go the full eight seconds and come back for more.” She eyed him from head to toe. “Think you can handle that?”

Oh, I can most definitely handle you sweetheart.

Not wanting to seem too eager he replied, “I’m not sure but I’m willing to try.”

“Do or do not. There is no try.” He struggled not to let his grin escape. The fact that she was trying to seduce him made his dick twitch.

“Let’s just say I’m looking to burn off some pent up frustration. A little excess energy. And I’ve got plenty to burn.”

The way she shivered at his words, he knew he almost had her. He winked as she licked her crimson lips and blew out a small breath. Damn what this woman is doing to him.

He pushed her knees apart with his left leg and was rewarded with the amazing scent of her arousal. The knowledge she was wet for him had him close to going off in his jeans.

Houston, we have lift-off!

“Why don’t you have a seat cowboy and we’ll talk about it.”

She gasped when he shocked her with a brush of his lips against hers; fighting with everything he had not to deepen the kiss.

Patience, patience.

He would play her game for the moment but sooner or later, she would be his. Tied up and begging for more.

He asked her, “Now about that eight second ride?”

  2. Fun interview! I had no idea Harlie wanted to be a dancer....I'm short too - even shorter than Harlie so I knew dancing was never in my future...sigh...though I do love to look at ballet ...sigh

  3. Heh, heh, just wait Harley, until your son is old enough to want to read what "Mommy" writes! Only one of my sons is brave enough...but he offers good advice and helpful suggestions, so I'm happy to listen to him. My daughter's roommates at college love my books, but she says she'll "get to them in the summer"...yeah, right.

  6. Daryl he lasts longer than 8 seconds. *giggling*

Maria - That was my childhood dream. Its not unusual to find me dancing in the living room. And yes, I can still high kick with my back straight and do a right leg split. Of course, I have to stretch before hand. :)

Fiona - My son is only 7 yrs old so it will be awhile. Thank God!

Alyssa - I'm too short but for dancing I was and still am. I won all kinds of awards when I was a teenager. I was inspired by Fame and the movie "A Chorus Line" I worshipped Bob Fosse.
