The Fallen Cowboy by Mina Beckett

THE FALLEN COWBOY

Love heals all wounds …

Out of commission saddle bronc rider Jess Coldiron is putting his horse skills to work by serving as the Executive Director of the Promise Point Horse Rescue Ranch.

Jess’s gift for taming wild broncos and pretty women has taught him that both can take a man from zero to ninety in seconds, shake him senseless, and damn near kill him if he landed the wrong way. And Jess had. So bumping anything but heads with the beautiful Mallory Montgomery, his sister-in-law’s estranged sister, is out of the question.

Mallory came to Santa Camino, Texas, to fulfill her mother’s dying wish of reuniting with her sister, not to fall for a cowboy with a Texas-sized chip on his shoulder about the limp in his swagger and the woman in his past. But the ruggedly handsome, once famous bronc rider has a sexy smile and a fiery touch that ignites a spark in her every time they’re together.

Mallory knows there’s only one way to get Jess back in the saddle, but she wants more than he’s willing to give. And seducing the fallen cowboy may cost Mallory her heart.

About Mina

As a teenager, Mina spent her summers in Texas consuming Diana Palmer romance novels. She’s been addicted to cowboys ever since.

She and her husband live on a small farm in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains with their two sons, six rescue dogs, and three miniature horses.

She's an artist, photographer, and an avid reader. Life in her corner of the world consists of long winter nights curled up by the fire, cheering on her favorite football teams in the fall, enduring March Madness in the spring and walking barefoot through her garden with a cold jar of tea in the summer fireflies at sunset accompanied by a serenade of crickets and frogs, and lazy nights in the porch swing.

Cowboy Soldier Returns

Cash Browning left the small town of Rockton seven years ago to join the Army. Now he's back home to help out on the family ranch and it seems like the whole town wants to welcome him back with open arms. Everyone except for the few people whose approval Cash really needs.

Ever since he left, Cash can't get his first love, Carrie Lane, out of his mind. But when he returns home to find that she's dating his older brother, it seems like he's not going to get his second chance at love.

But not everything is quite as it seems to be. Can Cash finally open up about his past in order to heal himself and the people he's hurt?

Read an excerpt:
Cash sipped his beer slowly, trying to avoid eye contact with the large group of women in one of the booths that kept staring his way. The delicate touch of a hand on his shoulder and the familiar scent of vanilla perfume grabbed his attention, and he turned to see her standing there. Carrie Lane. She didn't look a day older than the day he'd left town. Her baby blonde hair tumbled to her shoulders in soft waves, and her skin had the golden glow to it of someone who enjoyed time outdoors. Her soft brown eyes met his blue ones once again, finally.
She always made him feel alive, invincible like they could achieve anything together. Looking at her now all the old feelings stirred again, and if it was possible, they were even stronger after all these years.
"Hi, Cash," she said softly. He thought he saw a flash of regret in those beautiful brown eyes, and he steeled himself. The last time he'd looked into them, they'd been red-rimmed, and he'd had to turn his heart to stone to be able to walk away from her.
"Hi, Carrie," he said, sipping his beer to buy him time to steady his thoughts and his emotions. She was here, she hadn't left town, and her ring finger was bare. He couldn't help the smile that crept over his face. Although he'd be stupid to think he had a chance after all these years, especially with the way they'd left things.

Series sale! 'Cowboy's Pride (Welcome to Covendale Book 1)' by Morgan Blaze 99 cents this week

Blurb:

The hardest second chance they'll ever take.

For six years, Sydney Davis has completely avoided the man who broke her heart. Now she needs a favor, and ranch owner Cam Thatcher is the only one who can do it. She thought she was over him -- but when she sees him again after all this time, her powerful attraction returns stronger than ever.

Cam wants nothing to do with the woman he used to love -- especially when he finds out she's marrying the man who's trying to destroy him and take his ranch. But he soon realizes his feelings aren't as buried as he thought. When he learns Sydney doesn't know about her fiancé's dark side, he races to stop her from making the biggest mistake of her life.

Read an excerpt:
“Why do I bother offering advice? Especially to you.” Cam slammed the rag back in the toolbox and stood. “Just hold the flashlight over here.”
Sydney bit her lip. “I’m sorry. I was trying to make a joke. A bad one.”
He sighed and leaned on the truck. “Okay. I guess I’m sorry, too.”
“For what?”
“I’m sorry your jokes are bad.” He smiled, just for an instant—and her heart stopped. God, what was wrong with her? “And I could be a little nicer,” he said. “So let’s get this beast started.”
“All right.”
She managed to hold the flashlight without letting her hands shake. All of a sudden, being this close to Cam seemed dangerous. She had to forcefully remind herself that she hated him.
It only took a minute for him to get the spark plug back in. “Okay,” he said. “Hand me the light, and go ahead and give it a try.”
She nodded, leaned into the truck and turned the key. The engine started right up.
“Oh, God,” she said. “Thank you so much. You’re…you really are a genius.”
“I just know machines.” He closed the hood and stood back. For a long moment he looked at her, but she couldn’t read anything in his expression. Finally, he said, “Make sure you get that serviced. It’s not going to stay running for long.”
“I will. Cam…”
He raised an eyebrow. In that split second, she could’ve kissed him.
And a huge part of her wanted that more than anything.

'City Slicker at the Horny Goat Ranch' by Daisy Harris

Blurb:

Keith Kelley doesn’t normally take kindly to strangers, but his flashy new neighbor has long legs, lips made for kissing and might prove too much temptation for a boy hiding his sexuality in rural Idaho. Unfortunately, between working his mom’s goat ranch and land disputes with his wealthy father, Keith has enough problems. He doesn’t need the best sex of his life threatening to expose his precarious secrets.

Real estate developer Max Levin vows to turn the one-stoplight town of Pookataw Valley into a quaint vacation destination…and then leave before the dust clears. Given his next assignment starts in five months, Max shouldn’t start loving the quaint little town—the ranchland, the mountains, even the goats. If only Max could stop thinking about his sexy neighbor and the time they shared in the front seat of Keith’s truck. Because he especially shouldn’t fall in love with a guy who can’t openly love him back.

In a town the size of Pookataw Valley, nothing stays secret for long. If Keith wants to hold onto his birthright, he’ll have to fight for his land and his pride. Most of all, he’ll have to fight for Max before he slips through Keith’s fingers.

Warning: contains angry parents, horny ranchers and snarky city boys just asking to be hogtied.

Read an excerpt:

“Hey. Don’t do that.” Keith pulled himself together enough to tuck back into his pants.

Max’s eyes were closed and his hand a blur. “It’s okay. I just need a second.”

Keith pinned Max’s wrist to the seat. “No.” He wasn’t sure why he needed to finish Max. Maybe because Max had called the shots, starting at the bar and all the way until now. Keith might have been the one fucking Max’s throat, but Max had been holding the reins the whole time.

“Aw. Chivalry isn’t dead after all, is it?” Max started stroking with his left hand, but even Keith could tell he wouldn’t get off like that.

“Is it possible for you to shut up for five fucking minutes?” Keith shifted in his seat, getting his face lower. He licked Max’s tip. It tasted salty sweet, the skin tight and smooth.

“I’m just saying that you don’t have to—”

Max didn’t have a chance to finish because Keith grabbed his other wrist and yanked it away. Using a hold on either side of Max’s hips for leverage, Keith slowly worked his tongue around Max’s tip. “I’m not doing this because I hafta.” Keith sucked him deeper, but kept it slow. He knew he was driving Max crazy when Max tried to arch.

“Fuck you. If you’re going to do it, go faster.”

Keith snickered. Because as much as he’d enjoyed Max’s skillful mouth, making Max lose his shit was just as fun. “I’ll go faster when I feel like it.”

Max had a nice dick. Thick enough to fill Keith’s mouth but not so long as to choke him. Keith didn’t get off on discomfort, and he never liked to blow guys with monster cocks. With Max, he could have done this for hours, backing off before picking up his tempo, teasing Max’s naked balls before working his way back up the shaft. All of Max was perfectly mouth-sized. Keith had never enjoyed blowing someone more.

“I’m not going to warn you.” Max’s words were prissy, but they were at odds with his ragged breaths.

“Right.” Keith licked under Max’s shaft. He could feel it clear as day how Max was filling and pulsing. He’d have to be pretty darn green not to know Max was about to blow. “I have done this before, y’know?”

“Really?” Max gasped, but to his credit, he managed not to come. “I couldn’t tell.”

“Asshole.” Keith gave another lick around the crown. Max jerked like he could break free and finish with his hand like he wanted. No way was Keith letting that happen, not when for the first time he felt like he really had the upper hand. “You’ll wait until I’m good and ready.”

Keith licked up the underside and started in again, this time a little faster. He could tell by Max’s breathing that Max had backed off a bit. Might take a little doing to get him to the edge.

“Fuck you. Jesus. Fuck.” Max whispered a non-stop round of cussing that made Keith smile.

“I thought you weren’t going to call to Jesus.” Keith only paused for a second. He had a feeling Max would have cried if Keith stopped for too long.

“Asshole,” Max whispered.

Snickering, Keith bit Max’s inner thigh.

FREE read! 'Texas Haven (Dawson Ranch #1)' by Kathleen Ball

Blurb:

Rancher Burke Dawson wants children; unfortunately, that also includes a wife. His first wife was a citified hellcat who stole half of his ranch. Now, Burke is determined to find an honest, country girl with no expectations of love.

Sexy Cowboys and the women who love them...Finalist in the 2012 RONE Awards. Top pick, five star series from the Romance Review. Kathleen Ball writes contemporary western romance with great emotion and memorable characters. Her books are award winners and have appeared on best sellers lists including Amazon's Best Sellers List, All Romance Ebooks, Bookstrand, Desert Breeze Publishing and Secret Cravings Publishing Best Sellers list. She is the recipient of eight Editor's Choice Awards, and The Readers' Choice Award for Ryelee's Cowboy. There's something about a cowboy....

Read an excerpt:
They sat on the swing in complete silence. The sky was beginning to darken. Burke put his arm around her, pulling her close. He could feel her tremble at his touch and it humbled him. He couldn’t remember a time when a woman had such a reaction to him. The urge to pick her up in his arms and carry her to his bed was strong but he didn’t dare. He didn’t think she was the type for a one-night stand and that was all he was willing to offer.

Although he found her damn attractive, she was off limits. All he needed equated to an unpaid housekeeper not a woman that probably had no practical skills, even so, she was very tempting. There seemed something so vulnerable about her that it made him long to protect her.

He made the mistake of looking down at her upturned face. Her luminous green eyes trapped him. Unable to resist the pull of her he carefully leaned down and brushed his lips against hers. He only intended for the kiss to be brief, but she tasted like honey and he had to have more.
Annie moaned as Burke kissed her again. He swiped his tongue along the seam of her lips, coaxing her mouth open and deepening the kiss. His arms tightened around her, pulling her close to him. She smelled of sunshine, sweet and warm. Reluctantly he let her go. Annie smiled back at him anyway, and it pleased him. She looked lovely in her yellow sundress with her curly auburn hair falling down her back, and he couldn’t help but admire her cute figure.
Gently, he removed her arms from around his neck and looked down at her with hooded eyes. Highly aroused by her, it was by sheer willpower that he stopped his advances. Her bruised lips looked inviting to him and her eyes shone with pleasure. God he wanted her. Burke smiled at her enthusiasm. The last woman in his house had overtly insulted every inch of it. He could hardly believe her reaction. She seemed genuine in her pleasure over everything. But, he reminded himself that it didn’t really matter. Burke grinned as he watched her scoop up the cat and whisper in its ear, her happiness so apparent. For a second he was glad that he adopted that ornery cat.

Regretfully, he stood up and moved away from her. “It’s been fun.”

“Yes it has,” Annie stood. She wobbled a bit and made her way to the porch stairs. She looked at Burke with her heart shining in her eyes. “Maybe you could consider me as a candidate for a wife?” she asked quietly.
He hesitated, not knowing what to say.
“Never mind.” She hurriedly rushed down the stairs to her car.
Maybe in another life, it would have worked, but he knew what the ending to their story would be.

Moira Keith Bio:

Moira Keith is a lover of shoes, a connoisseur of Guinness, baker of cocktail themed cupcakes, and an overall complete mess!

Moira lives in the glittering sea of neon known as Las Vegas with her twin zombie sons, three parakeets, and a turtle. but is a proud Texan by birth (and true Southern girl at heart)

As a writer, she loves to envision many worlds within the present. Mixing the cities of today with beings that are otherworldly has become a passion. Her love of things that go bump in the night or aren’t quite tangible on this plane of existence, really didn’t start until she was in her teens and she fell in love with a movie about a pack of rowdy teen vampires (thank you Lost Boys). Her love affair of the paranormal and urban fantasy was born and it seemed only natural to incorporate that into her writing.

When she’s not writing, her pastimes include hanging out with her boys, daydreaming, drawing, and reading so she can live vicariously through the characters her peers breathe to life. Indulgences? Why cowboys, vampires, werewolves and faeries… oh my!

Her stories are often filled with the magic of love and the mayhem that ensues, which always threatens to keep her couples apart. She writes paranormal romance, urban fantasies, and contemporary western romances. She has published three books. Buckling Down, a contemporary western romance, was her debut book. Then in August 2012, Moira introduced the world to her Urban Fantasy work with the debut book in the Moonlight Trilogy, Blood and Moonlight. Her most recent release, Frost, is a holiday novella and the first in a planned holiday series. She recently contracted a contemporary western romance, Anything but Safe with Astraea Press, slated for release in the spring of 2014.
