Interview with Rachel Brimble, author of 'Finding Justice'

Today, I am welcoming Rachel Brimble, author of 'Finding Justice' to the blog.

What was the inspiration behind 'Finding Justice'?

It was the setting more than the story that inspired “Finding Justice” – although I’ve said Templeton Cove is a fictional town, it’s based on a place I used to go on holiday as a child. I went there again a few years ago as an adult and knew I wanted to set a romantic suspense there and the murdered victim would be a friend of the heroine.

I didn’t know at that stage the heroine would be a cop or that she already knew the hero and he was also a close friend of the victim. It became a triangle very quickly once I started plotting 

What kind of research did you have to do for it?

Not much at all – I know the setting well and the rest of the story I drew from my emotional reaction to what was happening. My contemporary stories come very much from my own views and moral stance so I find they tend to write themselves as far as internal conflict is concerned.

It’s the plotting of the suspense that causes me the trouble!

Which character spoke to you the most?

Cat Forrester – the heroine. She was very clear in my head early on. Once I knew she had red hair and was a cop, I knew she was going to be a handful for my hero. I LOVED writing her and as Finding Justice is now the first is what I hope will be an ongoing series, I intend to have Cat keep popping up throughout the following stories. She’s fabulous!

To which character do you best relate?

See above – Cat’s loyalty and need to take care of everyone is very much the type of person I am. I’m not as brave and forthright as her though – thus the reason I’m a writer and not a cop, LOL! But her emotions and moral compass are pretty much mine too.

What other projects do you currently have in the works?

I have a very busy 2013 ahead of me – my schedule is manic due to the backlog of books my wonderful agent contracted during 2012. Here’s my release schedule:

Finding Justice (Harlequin Superromance) – February

The Seduction of Emily (E-Kensington) – April

16 Marsden Place (Omnific Publishing) – June

A Man Like Him (Harlequin Superromance) – August

Do you ever like to read other authors' books within your genre?

All the time! My favourite romantic suspense authors are Nora Roberts, Tess Gerritsen and Tami Hoag. I’m in awe of these three writers. Their characterization and plotting is phenomenal. All three started their careers writing for Harlequin – so maybe there’s hope for me yet!

What are you reading right now?

- Lace by Shirley Conran – classic 1980s bonkbuster
- The Ladies Paradise by Emile Zola – a Victorian novel set in Paris

If you could be a character in any book, whom would you choose?

That is WAY too difficult to answer! I have so many books I love and always want to be the heroine. I read voraciously and really immerse myself in the characters. Fingers crossed, I achieve that for others with my books too 

What are some of your other hobbies?

Reading, knitting and walking are my favorites ways to relax – also love socializing with friends and family over good food and wine. Happiness!

What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?

So much! But the scariest event of my life so far was being rescued by helicopter from a hotel roof during the 2010 French floods.

Anything else you would like to share?

I love hearing from readers and other writers – find me here to join in my with blog chatter and guests:

And as she digs deeper, she discovers Jay has secrets that may jeopardize any possible future together.

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains adult situations and language and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Excerpt:
Cat didn’t want the gentle caring lover who worried about hurting her, worried about being her first. That was before. She’d been with other men since and today she was a grown woman. Exhaling as his teeth nipped at her neck, she relished the erotic pain mixed with pleasure as it washed over her senses.

“I want to touch you,” she whispered. “All of you.”

Drawing away from him, she inched back until she sat upright against his groin. Feminine power roared through her blood as the delicious feel of his erection through his jeans touched her naked thigh. With her gaze locked on his, Cat slowly unbuttoned her blouse. His eyes widened and his jaw grew tight as she tossed it to the side and reached around to unhitch her bra.

She flung it to the side, her nipples tightening under his gaze. “Your turn.”

He sat up and their faces were barely inches apart. Lust swirled in his as hunger raged and desire burned. He clasped one naked breast in his hand, massaged it possessively, swallowing Cat’s shocked gasp with his mouth. Her arousal sky-rocketed and she fumbled for the hem of his t-shirt before roughly yanking it over his head. Their lips separated for seconds before reclaiming as they fell back onto the bed.

Her breasts and torso nestled against the soft brush of hair running across the middle of his chest and down his flat-board stomach. Her heart swelled and her mind emptied when he moaned her name.

He tilted her to the side so she lay on her back and Cat fell into his gaze, unaware of anything but him. The sexy lift at the corner of his mouth sent her insides into a girlish loop-the-loop as their connection slammed into place and locked. She fought the fear of it, the resistance; they were joined in finding their friend’s killer and they were joined in their anger and passion. They were joined.

However temporary, it didn’t make what was happening less tantric. His fingers smoothed over her thigh and she clamped her teeth together. His progress was tortuously slow, her body trembling with anticipation.

Interview with Chacelyn Pierce, author of 'The Last Pyr of Eden'

Today, I would like to welcome Chacelyn Pierce, author of 'The Last Pyr of Eden,' to the blog.

What was the inspiration for 'The Last Pyr of Eden'?

My inspiration came from a lot of places for this book. My life, what I read, games I played online, and most importantly things I love about the fantasy genre. While it's hard to pinpoint one thing that sparked the initial idea, there had been numerous things that kept the ball rolling.

How many books do you anticipate being in this series?

At least three, each will be a different couple but have connected storylines. The second one is coming along nicely. I'm hoping to have it finished in the near future.

Any other projects in the works?

Oh yes, I'm wrapping up the second short story in my contemporary M/M racer series. I after that, I'm going to hop back into finishing a paranormal book that has been set aside. Once that's completed and found a publishing home, it's time to dive back into the big kahuna, the second book in the Hearts of Eden will be finished.

Which character spoke to you the most during the writing process?

Draven, since I'm such a villain loving gal, he was the loudest out of everyone in the book. There will always be a special place in my heart for my villains. Frankly, it's because they come to me so vividly and with little thought.

Which scene was your favorite to write?

The very beginning. I love writing my starts anyway but Raynor's start still holds the title as my favorite scene in any of my books written so far.

If you could be an elemental, which powers would you choose?

Fire, definitely.

Describe your ultimate paranormal man.

Well, long hair is a must. Tattoos and some piercings would be the cherry on top. I'm big into alpha males of any type. He could be a vampire, werewolf, or fae, it doesn't matter and it doesn't take long for me to fall for those types of characters in a book.

What music did you listen to while writing this book?

A lot of a Polish, progressive rock band called Riverside and the lead singer from that band also has a side group called Lunatic Soul. The musical vision on each album helped me mold my story.

What are you reading right now?

Julie James's About That Night, book three in her FBI/US Attorney series.

What is something readers may be surprised to learn about you?

I usually only have a small outline of my books, most of the story is written on a whim.

Anything else you would like to share?

My publisher has marked this book on sale at Amazon, get it now before it changes.

Outside the protected gates of Eden, ancient enemies lurk in waiting to drain elementals of all their power.

For eons, the four elementals have bled their nourishing blood to sustain life for superior spirit elementals known as Daemons. No race has suffered in despair as critically as the fire elementals—the Pyr. Their numbers dwindled down so miserably, that Raynor is the last known warrior of the race, living on a faint hope that there is more of his kind between both worlds. He ventures out constantly searching for elementals to save from enslavement. In reality, he searches for a female to bond with. After a yearlong trip away from Eden—an elemental settlement hidden deep in the woods—he is immediately confronted by the enchanting Sylph, Samira. She ignites desires and emotions in him that he considered long dead and nearly destroyed like his people. Indulging in his erotic cravings with Samira can be a daring game to play, because elementals have never intermingled in all recorded history.

'Maria's Match (Salin's Salvation Book 3)' by Astrid Cielo

Sci-Fi Romance
Date Published:
1/21/2013

It was love at first sight...

Silvius fell head over boots in love with the fiesty Latina nurse the first time he saw her, helping keep a battered woman alive. Having lost everyone he loves to the terrible disease that nearly left their planet extinct, he thinks he has found his mate.

She was instantly attracted to the alien, and that scared her to death...

Maria shared a blissful and life-changing night with Silvius, losing her heart and gaining the baby now growing within her womb. But old hurts won't let her stay and accept that Silvius loves her. So Maria runs-- like she always does.

Little does Maria know that she has finally met her match...

Be advised: Content intended for persons age 18+. Contains violence and scenes of a sexual nature (but not at the same time!).

Read an excerpt:

Maria pushed the eggs and chorizo around on her plate. She was hungry, but she didn’t want this to come back up like most mornings. She was tired of vomiting. She couldn’t even go to the doctor and get an antiemetic for it because she feared the repercussions. “Oh, hi doctor. Yes, I’m pregnant. Oh no, it’s an alien.”
She laughed at the direction of her thoughts. She had well and truly lost it.
“Mija, you need to eat the food, not play with it.”
“I know, abuela, but I don’t want to vomit again.”
“Aye, mija. Just go to the doctor.”
Maria dropped her fork, its clatter echoing the kitchen causing her abuela to jump. Her emotions were too close to the edge lately. She didn’t have control. Not anymore. The tears fell down her cheeks and she swiped at them angrily. Before she didn’t cry at all, but now she cried about anything.
“I can’t, abuelita. I’m not sure what they will do to me. What if something is wrong with the baby? I can’t even get the pre natal care because I’m scared I’ll go to prison.”
“Well you know that you can’t do without prenatal care, especially since the father is an alien.”
“I know abuela. But how am I supposed to get that care without going to prison.”
Maria rested her head in her hands and the smell of chorizo and eggs hit her like a slap in the face. Placing a hand over her mouth, she jumped from the table and ran for the bathroom. Silvius stepped into the kitchen and caught her by the shoulders.
“What’s wrong, Maria?”
She tried to move around him, but he wouldn’t release her. He wouldn’t let her go to the sink or trash can. Then it was too late and Maria could only look up at him in horror after she painted his shirt with her vomit. She burst into tears at the mess that covered him, sure, that he would hate her now. Wasn’t that what I was going for? The thought only made her cry harder.
Silvius removed his shirt and wiped her mouth with a clean spot before pulling her into his arms. Maria rested her tear stained cheek against his firm crimson chest.
“Are you okay?”
His whispered question only made the tears start again. He didn’t push her away. He didn’t press her for more information. He simply held her as she bathed his chest in her tears. Finally, the crying stopped and she was relieved that she could finally see his face without the sheen of tears to blur her vision. He regarded her with furrowed brows.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For vomiting on you.”
“No worries about that. Are you okay?”
“I don’t know. I can’t quit vomiting. I was just telling...”
“Yes. I heard. You need a doctor, but you haven’t gone to one.”
“Hey! I can’t help that! I’m carrying an alien’s baby!”
He released her as though she were a hot coal, his nostrils flaring. She wished she could take it back, take her words back. She placed a hand over her stomach and rubbed soothing circles over where a baby resided. Her baby. His baby. She sighed. Sometimes she forgot that it wasn’t just her involved in this fiasco. He was here, which was more than she could say for some men.
“I’m sorry. I just don’t know what to do. I don’t know if it’s a crime. I mean they’ll never believe that I don’t know anything since I slept with you. Hell, they’ll think I’m just a whore if I didn’t do it for information.”
Maria gasped when Silvius pinned her against the counter. He grasped her hair and brought her face to his. She was awed at the anger she seen reflected in his blue eyes.
“Is that why?”
“Calm yourself, mijo.”
Maria looked to the side to see her abuela just watching with interest. Silvius had never been anything but patient with her, but his body didn’t scream patience right now.
“Answer me, Maria!”
She flinched.
“Why what?”
“Is that why you let me make love to you? For information?”
Maria struggled to get loose from his hold, but he was stronger than she imagined. How could he think so little of her? She couldn’t take it anymore. Maria brought her knee up, kicking him in the thigh beside his groin. Sure, she could’ve been a bitch and kick him in the family jewels, but she just wanted him to release her. She hated the feeling of being held so firmly, his face merely inches from hers. It reminded her too much of the way he would kiss her, his tongue snaking into her mouth to duel with her own. He didn’t seem to feel her kick to his inner thigh, instead his grip got tighter.
“No!”
He stared into her eyes and Maria squirmed under his intense scrutiny. He relinquished his almost bruising hold and held her close, his breaths coming in almost pants. What was this all about?
“The point is I need to see a doctor. I need prenatal care, Silvius, and I don’t want to become an experiment since this is your baby, too.”
He pulled back and nodded before leaving her with her abuela. Maria collapsed in the chair.
“Are you okay, mija?”
“Si.”
Have you tried to get to know him, mija? I know you don’t put much faith into my visions, but I have a good feeling about you two. All you have to do is trust him.”
“I can’t Abuela. He’s leaving.”
“Do you really think he’ll leave his baby?”
Wasn’t that what scared her the most? That he would take her baby and leave her behind.

'Conflicting Hearts' by J. D. Burrows Promo Blitz!

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: November 2012

Synopsis:

Rachel Hayward hoped to have a quiet thirtieth birthday alone. Instead, fate had different plans.

Caught in traffic and late for work, she can do nothing except wait for the freeway gridlock to ease. A three-car pileup has caused the snarl. Just as cars begin to move at a faster clip, Rachel takes her eyes off the road to gawk at the accident and rear-ends the car in front of her.

Sick over having ruined her day, she lowers her head onto the steering wheel and waits for the driver to begin a tirade over her stupidity. Instead, a kind man taps on her window showing genuine concern about her welfare. The brief colliding encounter suddenly starts a relationship between two strangers that takes off under odd circumstances.

When the couple becomes intimate, their relationship turns into a conflicting set of desires and needs. Rachel is bound by a shameful, dark childhood. After she falls in love with the handsome Ian Richards, she is faced with the decision to leave him or finally confront her demons to obtain the one thing in life she's always needed--healing from the sexual abuse she endured as a little girl.

Read an excerpt:
Ian slowly turns me around so that I’m facing him. We’re nose to nose. Our bodies are touching front to front. This is not good, or maybe it is good. He doesn’t say a thing, except to look at me with a smoldering gaze. A second later, he lazily moves his eyes toward my lips. I’m frozen. I look at him with half anticipation and half panic. He’s going to kiss me; I know it. His intentions are clearly expressed in his blue eyes, which have turned a shade darker. I’m losing it. Hurriedly, I remind him of his words to fend off the advance.

“Uh, I thought you wanted to be just friends?”

A look of admiration sweeps across his face. He gently brings his hand up to my forehead and brushes a few strands of hair out of my eyes. Ian is silent, but it’s obvious he is thinking this through. It’s driving me crazy being close to his body.

“You want more?” I whisper, trying to get him to say something.

“Do you?”

He answers with a question. It’s annoying. “I asked you first,” I reply, not cracking a smile or giving away my heart pounding in my chest. I can’t look at him any longer. I close my eyes, and silently ask God, who I’ve ignored for years, to help me.

Then I feel the warmth of his breath approach. He circles my lips with his and gives me a long, tender kiss. Sweet Jesus. He tastes so delicious! I hope the breath mint I popped in my mouth a half hour ago is still working. Eventually, he pulls away, and I open my eyes.

“Does that answer your question?”

Read an excerpt:
She pulled up short when a man appeared from out of nowhere, startling her. Jumping back, Greer stared, hoping she didn’t drool. Tall, dark and handsome didn’t even begin to cover it. Craning her head back to look up into his face, she realized he must have stood at least six and a half feet tall with golden skin and a body to die for. He looked so hot in fact, she could hear the sizzle from where she stood. His dark hair fell to just above his broad shoulders, framing an exquisite face of chiseled features. Deep green eyes watched her with interest from under killer lashes. As her eyes traveled lower, she actually felt her breath catch and stop. He stood before her, shirtless. His smooth muscular chest and six-pack—no wait, make that eight-pack—rippled down to reveal a smattering of dark hair starting just below his navel and trailing south to disappear into snug dark rust-colored pants hanging low on his lean hips. He posed in the doorway, all lithe, sinewy muscle with colorful tattoo symbols running down the left side of his torso.

Oh, sweet Jesus. She’d died and gone to heaven—or perhaps hell, since he looked to be so sinfully tempting. Suddenly realizing she stared at him too intently, she glanced away. A blush crept from her neck on up to heat her cheeks.

“Greetings. My name is Caelan Virilion.” He didn’t move from the doorway, perhaps waiting for her to acknowledge him, but his mega-watt smile, revealing perfect white teeth, captivated her as did his unique name and lyrical voice. Ah, so the sandalwood scent came from him. He even smelled yummy.

Greer snapped back to herself as soon as she realized he was waiting for her to speak. Believing the best defense to be a direct approach, she stepped forward with her hand outstretched to shake and broke her silence. “I’m Greer Ivers. I don’t believe I know you or where I am at the moment. Perhaps you could enlighten me.”

About the Author

I live in Northeast PA where we experience all four seasons, although, I wouldn’t mind hanging onto summer a bit more and winter a bit less. I’m married to a career military man; we have four wonderful children, and an assortment of rescued cats. Never a dull moment in my household!

As for my writing, I am multi-published in eBook and print. I write from sweet to hot, short to epic and anything in between. You can find the ratings and length next to the book on my website. I have fourteen titles and one Free read through The Wild Rose Press, one title with Whimsical Publications, and just recently, I released my very first self-publication-Captive Hero.

I love to write a damaged hero where something happened in his past to mark him. They’re my favorite kind to read, too. A mixture of vulnerability and a strong backbone are a must for my heroines. She usually has a decent wit, too. My books contain humor, some more than others, and most have a protagonist with a military background. Thanks to my husband, my real-life hero.

“I’d like to see you try.”

Without hesitation, Sam positioned her foot behind his ankle and smacked him with a well-placed palm to his shoulder. Knocked off balance, he sailed backward and collided with the back of the couch.

“Ask and you shall receive.”

She straightened her sweater and stepped toward her duffle bag, a small smile twitching her lips. That felt good.

She should’ve known he wouldn’t let things rest. He was a Marine. Seized from behind, Sam met the wall, elbows bent, palms flat near her head.

“Not so fast.”

Large hands held hers in place, while deep, panting, hot breaths washed over her neck and ear, stoking her core’s dormant fire to blistering life. Dammit! She did not want to be attracted to him.

“We need to lay a few ground rules.”

His sexy voice goose-fleshed her skin. Bastard. Pressed firmly into her back, he conformed every delicious, toned muscle to keep her immobile. She liked his toned muscles. She didn’t like immobile.

“I agree.” She pushed back with all her might and promptly regretted the action.

Mistake number two.

The pissed off pilot increased the pressure of his solid body, stirring longings she should not have for the bulging erection plastered against her ass.

“Settle down, you minx, and listen. You will go nowhere without me. Like it or not, I’m your shadow. Do you understand?”

Her heart stopped, along with her struggles. “You expect to sleep with me?”

Long and thick, his erection jumped at her words. Jumped! Sam inhaled and closed her eyes tight to hold back a moan. You will not be aroused. You will not be aroused.

She was aroused.

“No,” he finally said, voice as strained as his body. “I’ll lock you in your room. I’m not about to try to sleep worrying you’re going to shove a knife in my chest the second I close my eyes.”

He expected to sleep if they shared a bed? Sam swallowed back a bout of hysterical laughter. There’d be no sleep, no knife, and he’d be doing all the shoving.

She cleared her throat and refocused. The bedroom doors locked from the inside, therefore, he couldn’t possibly carry out his threat. Still, he was smart. No doubt he already had a plan. She decided to dig.

“Aren’t you afraid I may have a radio in my room?”

“No.”

No? Wanting to see his face, she used the slight slackening in his body to push back and twist around.

Chalk up another mistake for Samantha the stupid.

A quick recovery had Mitch plastering her against the wall, every solid, hard inch he possessed rubbing her sensitized form. Strong and fierce, wicked cravings cancelled the fight from her mind. She stilled.

Talk about captured.

Damn, he felt…damn. She never experienced anything so incredible. Her gaze dropped to his mouth so achingly close. She’d love nothing more than for those delicious lips to seize hers again.

Stay strong, her mind ordered. You can get past this. In an attempt to regain control, Sam closed her eyes and inhaled.

Mistake number four.

He smelled hot, woodsy, manly. Ah hell, she was in trouble. The man oozed testosterone like it was free. Okay, so it was, but damn. All her combat experience with said male affliction couldn’t help her now. Her trusty immune system against rockin’ hot men failed her for the first time. Ever. She didn’t have a defense against it. Not with him. Her control slipped further, and when she opened her eyes, her heart literally performed a defensive spiral in her chest.

He’d switched gears too. Hunger deepened his gaze to mirror warm Bermuda waters and devoured the remnants of her strength.

Trouble. She was in deep. Liquid heat throbbed through her core, aching to consume the thick, bulging erection now pressing her belly. God, she never wanted anyone this bad before. Never ached with such force.

Lack of control was completely new.

Maybe if she’d had sex just once in the past seven months she could combat this dangerous desire. But she hadn’t. And she couldn’t.

Breath clogged her dry throat. What was he waiting for? Why didn’t he do something?

With escape no longer a thought, Sam’s need to set the mistaken pilot straight, to make him understand the truth, flew into the wild blue yonder as a greater need, a deeper, stronger need prevailed.

Her need for Captain Mitchell.

“Shit,” someone muttered, a second before their lips met in a heated, mutual, frenzy.

Hands still captured by his, she leaned into him and rejoiced at his low, guttural groan. He kissed her again and again with mind drugging precision, and she met the give-and-take demands with equal zeal, his lips drawing a response clear up from her curled toes.

If hot had a taste, it was Mitch. The man melted her bones. Oh, he was good. He threw down desire’s gauntlet and need commanded she returned the pleasure.

She did.

Giving herself over to the kiss, Sam poured all her energy, all she had into the passionate embrace. Solid and delectably broad, the captain’s chest pressed into hers, peaking her nipples on contact. The only way this could be better was if they were both naked. Heat spiraled to her core, spiking out in all directions as he thrust against her.

Air. She needed air, but that would mean breaking apart. Not an option. She let out a moan instead and thrust back.

“Yeah,” he whispered, relinquishing her mouth to nuzzle her neck.

Shivers raced to her feet, teasing her most intimate spots along the way. Cripes, she’d give him ten hours to stop. Using the unexpected break to fill her lungs, Sam closed her eyes and quivered as his lips teased the sensitive skin behind her ear. She moaned again.

Head lifting a fraction, he stared into her eyes. “Like that?”

“Yes…”

He released her hands and skimmed a path down her sides, brushing her breasts, her nipples, her waist, straight to the curve of her hips where his fingers curled in a light caress.

She inhaled sharply. Anticipating. Waiting. Needing those hands on her, everywhere, touching all of her…especially south.

“Ms. Michaels has outdone herself yet again by writing another story in which her readers can't help but fall in love with her characters. I loved that Marine Pilot Captain Samantha Sheppard was a tough, no-nonsense kind of woman who was smart and could kick anyone's butt if need be. I loved seeing that she was a dominant female when the situation called for it, but Sam also had a deep, tender side to her as well. This is another great story by Ms. Michaels that I enjoyed from cover to cover and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book to be released in this Time-shift Heroes series. Well done!”--Diana Coyle, Book Reviewer

“Loved this book! ‘Captive Hero’ is my first e-read...I'm hooked, both on the format and the concept. Sam makes a wonderful heroine, and I loved the romantic story line, the time-travel aspect, and the wicked plot twists. Donna Michaels had me turning e-pages as quickly as possible to find out what happened next...I couldn't put it down. Michaels has it ALL. Take a strong, creative plot, add in terrific characterization in the form of smart, sexy and determined heroines and a to-die-for hero, toss in great dialogue and use of World War II-era slang, along with insight into the psychology of a 20th century hero with an incredible sense of duty and honor who is forcibly transported into the 21st century...it all adds up to a can't-miss read. Looking forward with anticipation to the next book in the series!”--Kitty

“What a fantastic story!!! Hot, strong hero and a just as strong female. The beginning of the book when Sam and Mitch first interact is a hoot and I love Sam's thoughts in response to Mitch's strong-arm tactics and it is great when he learns how powerful a female Marine can be. The romance is great and stirring. I was expecting one twist and was shocked when the twist occurred and it was an unexpected one; I actually cried along with Sam (and I don't do that with most books). Even the end kept me guessing. I am now anxiously waiting for Maria's story to be published; she was one of the great characters in the book whose banter with Sam was quite funny.”--Texasrn
