House of the Twelfth Planet by Miriam Newman

Welcome to the book tour for House of the Twelfth Planet, the third book in the Scion series by Miriam Newman. Check out an excerpt before you download your own copy. And then take a sneak peek into her upcoming book Warlord. Be sure to let her know what you think! And then follow the tour for even more. Best of luck entering the giveaway!

To whom does Lela owe her loyalty: her own people or the Thelonian Lord who loves her?

Read an excerpt:
Roger remained, fingers tented, studying his viewscreen at some length after Dervin had gone back to his own office. The Governor had learned to trust his assistant’s judgment. Dervin might be somewhat quick to judge the weak spots in any immigration request, but he had been proven right more than once. Roger did not always make a habit of reviewing such requests so carefully, leaving those matters largely to his assistant. But he was studying the medical records of a woman who had no idea he had them. He doubted she even knew what they were or that they had been obtained while she lay in stasis. That was simply standard procedure, but in this instance, they had been of note.

Her Lord was, in all probability, a firebrand. But that did not so much concern Roger. There were as yet no political divisions to be exploited in his tiny domain. If that Merc energy could be channeled in a positive direction, Caius of the House of Bardin could prove to be an asset.

If, on the other hand, he had inflicted the damages Roger was seeing...well, that was another matter. No woman would be treated that way while he was Governor.

Who could resist a chance to plug their next book?

In approximately three months, my publisher should be releasing my fantasy historical romance “Warlord.” Those who read my book “Spirit Awakened” may recognize some of the characters, but it is not strictly necessary. Each book is written as a stand-alone.

“Warlord” is a full length novel set in a fantasy world where emerging countries are fighting for ascendancy. One young nation, Westenia, has been invaded and occupied in the recent past by an older but still savagely aggressive neighbor state, Covetia. This invasion was led by Senec, son of a famous old Covetian warlord, Atulfa. What Senec completely failed to take into consideration was the treachery of his half brother, Caln, who gave the formula for gunpowder to Westenia. This led to the annihilation of Senec’s forces and his own capture, from which he was released only through Caln’s intervention. This was done with the understanding that Senec would act as an intermediary to ensure peace between his father and the new Westenian state.

Failing at diplomacy, Senec engineers the murder of not only his father but also his older half brother, Dyak, who would have followed in his father’s footsteps and sacrificed the Covetians to a war with Westenia they could not win, all out of pride. Instead, Senec buries him--rather gruesomely.

In the process, Senec inherits his father’s many wives, most of whom are doddering, but one is a young girl, Ganina. The old warlord’s wives hate Ganina and will no doubt murder her, so Senec takes her into his tent to protect her. Of course, Ganina is also a good looking girl and Senec is no Boy Scout, so his motives are not entirely noble. He further establishes that by returning his own wives to their fathers even though they poisoned his father and half brother to advance his interests. Ganina is terrified of him, questioning her fate at the hands of a man capable of such deeds.

OK, that’s enough teasers. Let it suffice to say that the remainder of the book is not only a story of war, politics and intrigue, but also love literally arising from the ashes.

The research for this book was absolutely fascinating. Much of it involved studying ancient Mongol culture. Yes, I am speaking of the nomads of the steppes who conquered large portions of their known world. This has always been an area of interest for me, since some of my descent from Russian ancestors on my mother’s side was long rumored and actually confirmed by DNA analysis to arise from this steppe blood. No, Genghis is not an ancestor. But somebody was! This probably explains a lot.

Here is hoping readers who enjoy this genre will like “Warlord.”

Fantasy poetry driven by myths and legends has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I was published in poetry before catching the romance writing bug. I bring that background to my writing along with a lifelong addiction to horses, an 18-year career in various areas of psychiatric social services and many trips to Ireland, where I nurture my muse. My published works range from contemporary fantasy romance to fantasy historical, futuristic, science fiction and historical romance. Live Soldier by Liam Clay

Welcome! This book is for my fans of science fiction. Check out an excerpt and then follow the tour to see even more. Be sure to let the author know what you think in the comments section, or feel free to ask him any questions you may have.

Live Soldier

THE APOCALYPSE WILL BE TELEVISED.

You know what they call me.

Camera-eyed killer. Spawn of the ruins. Man who stole a city.

These are not the names of a saint. But every legend has an origin story. And because of what I am, you can experience mine in real-time.

Fair warning, though: my life contains instances of drug use, bio-terrorism, aquatic street fighting, unsolicited retinal surgery, advanced warfare, amateur sex and straight-up murder.

But if you're sick of sanitized heroes... then log in, lose yourself and become the Live Soldier. Because you've never met a marine like me.

Read an excerpt:
The balcony is moving, I realize dimly. No - the entire labyrinth is shifting, rearranging itself into a single great platform. A low dais now occupies its center, a ring of security guards creating a perimeter around it. But these alterations have nothing to do with the drug; robotics and stagecraft are at work here.

Then the world’s color inverts: white turning to black, blue become red etc. I’ve barely adjusted when direction follows suit, and now everything is upside down. Oh crap, this will be the Anex, how much did she -

A (to me) golden clad figure floats up (and therefore down) from nowhere, until her bare feet make contact with the dais. Fantastically tall and smooth cheeked with flint-grey eyes, purple hair pulled back from a sharp widow’s peak. Letiva made young again.

“Welcome,” she says, “to the newly completed set of my upcoming feature!”

The crowd is enthralled, but the Ladder is positively smitten. He takes a step in her direction, but his legs aren’t cooperating and - more distressingly - he has begun to emit a high pitched mechanical whine. I think it’s a hallucination at first, but the crowd can hear it too. Everywhere I look people are clapping hands over their ears, backing away from the Ladder as he careens straight for Letiva. Her security detail closes in -

- and I’m blown off my feet. Everything goes black, shifting abruptly to blue, a deep bass roar accompanying. Now I’m falling, spinning like a top, until an impact hits me with a façade of deep, gutsy red. This holds for some time, fading gradually into pearly white unconsciousness.

#99cents Sale! Remus's Revelation (Quasar Lineage Series #7) by Pearl Tate

Remus's Revelation

Remus

Happily committed and content in my harem, I assume I’m chosen to go after my brother Travek due to my faithfulness. I’m not excited to go off-planet, but I’ll serve my council mother and church Sacred Mother in whatever capacity they request.

When I arrive, I’m dismayed to see mating marks have developed on my chest, and the pull to meet the human female inspiring them keeps me distracted—and feeling guilty.

Do I let this mating progress and betray my Ermada? Is it possible to even deny a mating pull?

When her life is in danger, any rational thought disappears as instinct takes over…

Jo-Anne

Struggling to be “normal” at the college I’m attending, I find it aggravating to visit the shrink. She doesn’t understand or believe that I’ve been abducted by little, grey aliens.

When I’m sucked into their bright light while at a study group, I’m shocked that they’re abducting me from a room with other people—why can I suddenly remember not only this visit but dozens more? And who is this strange, new alien claiming I’m his mate?

PLEASE NOTE:

This SciFi Romance alien book contains Adult Language and Steamy Adult Bedroom Scenes. It is intended for 18+ Readers & Adults Only.

It's part of a science fiction romance series but can be read as a standalone story with no cliffhangers!

Meet MF Sullivan, author of The Hierophant's Daughter

Welcome to the book tour for The Hierophant's Daughter by M.F. Sullivan! Today she's letting us get to know her a little bit better, while also giving us some insight into her latest book. Please also enjoy an excerpt before you download your own copy. Follow the tour and leave plenty of questions and comments for the author as you continue to get to know her. And then be sure to enter the giveaway at the end!

Have you ever had an imaginary friend?
Of course! I give them whole worlds to ruin. Now that I’m into the occult (tarot was clearly an influence on, if nothing else, the structure of The Disgraced Martyr Trilogy—my cover artist, Nuno Moreira, did a wonderful job evoking tarot cards with the covers! The Hierophant’s Daughter is only the first beautiful example.
Do you have any phobias?
Heights, flying, needles—but I’m doing immunotherapy so I won’t be as allergic to my new black cat, Israel, so hopefully by the end I’ll be immune to phobia 3!
Do you listen to music when you're writing?
I must. I’ve talked in the past with another blogger about how important music is to me. The best thing a writer can do for themselves is to create a playlist and listen to it constantly, always envisioning the scenes of their story as inspiration calls. Listen to it so much that your knowledge of these images becomes routine, and when you sit down to write with this playlist, all your work will be second-nature to you.
Do you ever read your stories out loud?
Absolutely. Every third or fourth draft is like that—it helps me fix a lot of intolerable wording I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.
Tell us about your main character and who inspired him/her.
General Dominia di Mephitoli, Former Governess of the United Front and the Bitch of Europa, is not just The Hierophant’s Daughter—she’s one of the most feared martyrs on the planet due to her prolific military career. That said, what I love about Dominia is her emotional complexity. While she thinks like a soldier, her political career—and her love of her dead wife, Cassandra di Mephitoli, whose death drives the plot of all three books even before the story has begun—has made her more emotional than that, and more attached to the human race than the rest of her cannibalistic martyr brethren. Part of her journey is about learning to honor those emotions, and learning to honor the horrors committed by the person that she was while acknowledging her ability to change into a new, better person.
I think one of the things I wanted to accomplish with this story was an LGBTQ protagonist, but I didn’t know any of that stuff about Dominia’s personal life going in. The most important thing for me was that the character’s problems not arise out of being gay—I respect YA coming-of-age tropes and the absolute bravery with which gay people must face the world to admit to being themselves, but I think the best way to create a world where LGBTQ people are normalized is to show them a world where they already are. So, when writing the plot, I basically wanted Dominia’s experience to be comparable in every way to that of a male sci-fi hero rescuing his wife. One of the ways I did that was by looking at one of the strongest people I’ve ever known, a young woman who’s a lesbian long after she’s a dynamic, reliable, intelligent and powerful human being. While she and Dominia are two very different people, I think I found that initial spark of the General’s motivations and self in the heart of my friend, Amber.

The Hierophant's Daughter

By 4042 CE, the Hierophant and his Church have risen to political dominance with his cannibalistic army of genetically modified humans: martyrs. In an era when mankind's intergenerational cold wars against their long-lived predators seem close to running hot, the Holy Family is poised on the verge of complete planetary control. It will take a miracle to save humanity from extinction.

It will also take a miracle to resurrect the wife of 331-year-old General Dominia di Mephitoli, who defects during martyr year 1997 AL in search of Lazarus, the one man rumored to bring life to the dead. With the Hierophant's Project Black Sun looming over her head, she has little choice but to believe this Lazarus is really all her new friends say he is--assuming he exists at all--and that these companions of hers are really able to help her. From the foulmouthed Japanese prostitute with a few secrets of her own to the outright sapient dog who seems to judge every move, they don't inspire a lot of confidence, but the General has to take the help she can get.

After all, Dominia is no ordinary martyr. She is THE HIEROPHANT'S DAUGHTER, and her Father won't let her switch sides without a fight. Not when she still has so much to learn.

The dystopic first entry of an epic cyberpunk trilogy, THE HIEROPHANT’S DAUGHTER is a horror/sci-fi adventure sure to delight and inspire adult readers of all stripes.

What couldn’t a person access from the Japanese Internet? The question inspired Dominia to get out of the bathtub for another look at the card. There was no address, whether web or physical, as there hadn’t been an address on the ad floating across that billboard; instead, when she studied the lotus embossed upon the card, the DIOX-I highlighted it as though it were a link. How fascinating, this augmented reality! After fixing the device’s settings back to manual control, she “clicked” on the link with an unsteady wink, and her right field of vision was covered by the floating window of a browser. Had she cochlear implants, she would have heard some sort of music, or even a voice accompanying the woman’s writhing in and out of the browser’s dark: less a whole person, and more a disembodied assortment of lips, fingers, lower backs, and thighs. At last, the vision disappeared to present her with the crimson words, “WELCOME TO THE RED MARKET.”

A button appeared: “Connect Your Halcyon for Age Verification.” The idea of giving the women of the international and highly loathed illegal organization any information might have stopped her in a simpler time, as it surely stopped 70 percent of potential Red Market customers—the ones able to access the site, anyway, inaccessible from Europa and the Front through traditional routes. That had been all the Hierophant could do to combat in any meaningful way the world’s oldest profession-cum-cult. Far trickier than hampering Internet access was controlling in-person transactions in gold or silver, or the off-brand cryptocurrency, Redcoin; and because there were almost no freelance prostitutes left in the world, catching a working girl was difficult.

D'Zia's Dilemma

Guardians of the Galaxy meets The Princess Bride.

The second book in the trilogy, D’zia’s Dilemma features a disembodied galactic gangster, a snarky spybot, and a sentient, lovesick spaceship. If you like non-stop action, powerful emotions, and sensual aliens, you’ll love the next installment of An Alien Exchange.

A woman betrayed. An alien duke faced with an impossible decision. Can two lovers who long to be together overcome those determined to keep them apart?

Lora Dharma Callahan excitedly agrees to leave Earth to attend “The Exchange” and meet the alien mate of her dreams. Instead of finding true love, she’s forcibly kidnapped and held captive by an alien lunatic who plans to take over the galaxy. He’s going to use her to create a serum that will ultimately enslave every human female on Earth. But no emperor wannabe is going to keep this girl down. Lora will find a way to save not only herself, but her planet as well.

Duke D’zia Yaq E’etu, cousin to the crown prince of Zerin, suspects a malicious plot to overthrow the galactic government. When the opportunity arises to insinuate himself in the suspected traitor’s stronghold, he doesn’t hesitate to use his infiltration skills. While there, he encounters Lora, whom he soon recognizes as his TrueBond. The only problem…she’s imprisoned and scheduled for experiments that will destroy her.

Now D’zia has a hard choice to make. Should he stay and get the proof he needs to prevent a narcissistic megalomaniac from taking over the galactic government…or escape with the only female he can claim as his own?

Read an excerpt:
An eternity passed before Lora’s brain cells decided to come back online. Which wasn’t easy since D’zia had pulled her hips into his hard groin. Holy shamoka, was all of that for her? Wait, what did he say? Something about a JR10?

“D’zia.” She pulled her mouth away from his while her inner nasty girl screamed to keep going. “Don’t, I can’t think when you kiss me.” Her heartbeat was going crazy and it was hard to breathe.

Okay, take in a few deep gulps of air…yeah, now she was calm. Right. She put her hands on the sides of his face to place him farther back from her so she could gaze into his eyes. Feminine pride warmed her as she took in the dazed, unfocused stare he gave back. Lordy, those dual-colored orbs were beyond beautiful, especially dilated in passion. His wet, full lips were tempting, and she’d love to spend eternity bathing in the weight of his intense focus.
His three-fingered hands burrowed under her loose tunic to wrap around her naked waist, his palms massaged her eager skin in heavy strokes.

She jumped when warm oils under his hands caused a path of lightning to cover her skin wherever he caressed. A fleeting scent of spiced licorice teased her nose. She drew in a shuddering breath as she cleared her throat. “D’zia, please, let’s stop and think about this.”

The Cage by Gloria Sanford

The Cage

“I hate Oliver.” Jacob frowns as he stares across the arena. Oliver Kent is surrounded by his friends from the Soerin team, laughing and having a great time and Jacob wants to punch him in the face.

Samuel taps two fingers against Jacob’s chest confidently, right over his heart, right over the feelings he’s reading. Thinks he’s reading. “No. No, you really don’t.”

Not long after Jacob is telling Samuel and Oliver...

“I had a vision,” Jacob tells them. “Of the future. Far in the future. Not, like, the next three minutes. But the future.”

Oliver audibly swallows. He leans in close too. “Of what, Jacob?”

“Us.” Jacob’s tired, unable to keep his eyes open, but he smiles. “The three of us, you, me and Samuel. It was our future. Together. We’re gonna be together for a long time.”

Now they just have to survive the cage and make it to the future…

Hathor Legacy: Revelations by Deborah A. Bailey

Hathor Legacy: Revelations – Book Three of the Hathor Legacy Series

An enemy returns to spark new tensions between the Guardians and Novacorp. In the midst of the crisis, Nadira is given information about her parents that threatens to destroy her relationship to the Guardians and to Jonathan.

While Nadira searches for answers, Jonathan is enticed into the hedonistic world of the Novacorp executive class. His entertainment club attracts the elite of Hathor, but his notoriety comes with a price.

The worlds of the Guardians and Novacorp are put on a collision course where only one side may come out on top. Nadira is called on to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the legacy of the First Families, the original settlers of Hathor, while Guardians, Kasema and Deshtu PSI groups are faced with the choice to unite or be brought completely under Novacorp control.

Old scores are settled and long-hidden truths are revealed, and at the end Nadira and Jonathan’s relationship and their world will never be the same.

Read an excerpt:
Outside, she ran down the marble stairs towards a waiting transport. The heavy metal door slid back, but before she could enter, she felt a tug on her upper arm.

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Jon asked.

"Good evening, Sentry Leader Nadira. What is your desired location?" the computerized voice inquired.

"Take me home," she replied, as she settled back into her seat. Their apartment was in a tower only about 15 minutes from this one. But by the looks of the clogged traffic lanes, the trip would probably take longer. This main boulevard went through the Entertainments District, one of the busiest areas of the city.

"Tell me what happened. Why do you think they killed your parents?" Jon asked.

The transport pulled out into the traffic lanes and slowly rumbled down the boulevard. Nadira looked out over the crowd, just in case she saw Zina among them. She knew it was a waste of time though, if anything, Zina would be in her private transport.

"I went to see Mikal at the detention center. He told me everything. My father got to the penal colony. He wasn't lost out there. They had him killed."

Jon opened his mouth to reply, then sagged against the cushions. "You went to see Mikal? And you believe him? Are you serious?"
"Why would he lie?"

"Is that a real question?" Jon brought his fist down on the seat. "He's trying to set you up. Don’t you see? He's a liar and a killer."

"He found my father's ship, Jon. That wasn't a lie." She couldn’t understand why he wouldn't listen. He had his mind made up and it was pissing her off.

"I know what he did at the medi-evac, Nadira. I know he tried to force a psychic connection on you. Maji told me." He grasped her hand. "Mikal is not getting another chance to hurt you."

Now, to stay alive she’ll have to depend on one of Dragath’s own. But such protection doesn’t come free.

Convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, 673 has become more beast than man after eight grueling years on an unforgiving, hazardous planet of dirt and rock—and even more treacherous inhabitants. He doesn’t look out for anyone but himself and he certainly never grows attached. So when the bold female offers him pleasure in return for protection, he takes the deal without hesitation. He never expects how her touch will alter him. Or the growing realization that saving her may be the key to his own salvation.

But as dangers mount and their ‘simple’ deal unravels will he prove to be her surprise savior or her ultimate downfall? Because caring for someone on Dragath25 may prove the greatest hazard of all.

Preorder the 4th book in the Henry Gallant series by H. Peter Alesso

commander hg blast banner

Commander Henry Gallant - EBookHe thought Alaina loved him, but now she’s found someone else. A tidal wave of loss and grief swept over Henry Gallant, leaving him undecided about what to do next, or how to move forward.

Despite his sorrow, he goes on a dangerous mission to an invading aliens’ home world in the Gliese-581 star system. There he uses a neural interface to penetrate their communication network and steal a high ranking alien’s identity. Through this artifice he learns about their history and society, and discovers a way to hinder and possibly defeat them.

A side-effect of linking into the alien network—which was created for autistic savants—is that Gallant’s mind was stimulated and enhanced to the point where he begins to experience superintelligence abilities.

Upon returning from his mission, there is concern that Gallant might pose an even more serious threat than the aliens. While he struggles to fend off those who doubt his loyalty, he fights to win back Alaina.

This is the fourth book of The Henry Gallant Saga, but it can be read as a standalone story.

Releases February 19th, 2016.

'Home Is the Sailor (Home in the Stars #1)' by Jolie Mason

Blurb:

Captain Aricka Badu left Taarken Prime twelve years ago for very good reasons, and she seldom goes back. It was supposed to be a short run, but, between the pirates, a brewing civil war and her ex, she may never get to leave.

Caden Carnes hadn't seen Ari in twelve years. Given their past, it wasn't exactly surprising. What was surprising was seeing her back on Taarken, the mining planet she'd abandoned along with her lover and her family.

Her brother's mining hauler is missing and Caden asks for Ari's assistance and her ship to go find it. One discovery leads to another, until all the secrets are out. Caden and Ari don't have long to discover the most important thing in the universe; You can actually go home again.

Read an excerpt:
The cabinet behind Ari contained a compliment of normal sized white coffee cups and supplies, and had been clearly labeled as such. He reached around her to open it, then looked down.
Her breath caught in her chest. He was so close she could smell the spicy scent of his shampoo, feel warmth emanating from him. She caught the counter with her hand to keep from wobbling toward his big body, his hard body. The stared, a little lost in each other.
“Ari, I . . . I want to choose differently.” He reached up to brush his thumb over her full bottom lip.
She felt her eyes widen and tear up at the same time. She had a briefing in about ten minutes. His timing had always been atrocious “We’ve got a ship to save, Caden.”
He nodded then dipped his head to gently, sensuously lick her lips and dart in for a small, tangling of mouths, a move she hadn’t expected. “I know, but then we reopen negotiations.”
Caden backed away and pointed at her. “You called me Caden.”
She had, she realized. He smiled a goofy, happy smile. Because she’d called him Caden.
Ari sat down at the large circular table with her coffee, and commed her staff, while trying to hide the shaking in her fingers. Even if he did want her back right now, that could change any moment. She’d kept a secret from him, a secret that would hurt every single person she loved.

'The Space Captain's Courtesan (Omega Galaxy Series)' by KC Klein

Mya is having a crap day.

Princess Mya Centauri is stranded and alone on the shady Bates Space Station. With rumors of her father’s dethronement escalating, she needs more than her wits and entitlement to protect her—she needs a hero. So when she unexpectedly finds herself mistaken for some whore by Centauri’s most notorious assassin, and at one time her father’s most trusted man, she decides things can only get worse.

Jax is having a crap decade.

Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, Captain Jax Rouss, an ex-Royal Guard, is now an escaped prisoner with a price on his head. Embittered after years of trying to clear his name, Jax wants nothing whatsoever to do with the family he once swore to protect. So when he wakes up to find that the sweet, smelling patron-pleaser he’s purchased is not only lovely, but already in his bed, he decides things can only get better.

But with lives at stake and kingdoms in jeopardy, Mya will do anything to convince the one man who hates the Royal family above all else to become her hero, even if that means becoming the one thing he can’t resist…The Space Captain’s Courtesan.

Read an excerpt:

“One time won’t be enough. I’ll tell you that much, princess,” he said as his hand was traveling down her outer thigh and then back up to cup her bottom.

A punch to her gut couldn’t have been any more shocking. She sat straight up, pushing him off with a burst of strength she hadn’t known she possessed. “What did you say? What did you call me?”

Did he know? Had he known all along? Was he loyal to her father or…her brother? Would he keep her captive until her brother arrived for the reward?

“What? What’s wrong?” He sounded a little like a child whose favorite toy had just been taken away.

“You called me princess. Why would you do that?” She couldn’t quite make out his features and took comfort in the dimness as she tried stuffing her breasts back into her suit.

“It’s an endearment. And since I don’t know your name I thought it sounded better than whore.”

She gasped. Where was that tranq-pen when she needed it?

“Not that I have anything against whores,” he back-peddled. “I love whores. Look at you. I have absolutely nothing against you.”

“I am not a whore.”

He sighed a very put-on-upon sigh. “Ah right, there’s a politically correct name. Ummm patron-pleaser? Was that it?”

“Patron-please this.” She had found the tranq-pen beside her leg and in one quick movement had the needle stabbed deep into his shoulder.

He yelled. “What the…”

Mya quickly scrambled off the bed, not at all sure where she was going to run.

He pulled the pen out of his arm and looked down. “Tranq-gun? Jupiter’s tits, you stuck me with a tranq-gun?”

Mya’s heart was pounding. She’d never actually used the tranq-pen before. The instructions had said the effects were immediate, but as to the definition of immediate she wasn’t sure. Could he kill her in the amount of time he had before the drug took effect? It looked like he could kill very quickly. “It’s a tranq-pen, not a gun. The effects will only put you out for a few hours verse a gun that could put you down permanently.”

Any second now. The effects should kick in right about…

“Ahhhhh.” He threw the pen against the wall and lurched for her, hands extended as if to close around her throat.

Mya never moved so fast in her life. She jumped out of the way and headed toward the exit. She didn’t make it that far. He tackled her legs and they both went down. She placed a well-aimed kick at his head. He caught her foot and twisted her leg. She rolled over on her back to prevent her knee from snapping.

Now. Now. Now would be good.

He held her to the floor, both arms above her head. His knees pinned on top of her legs. “Why! Why did you tranq me? Is it to rob me blind? Is that it?”

Her space suit was still unzipped, breasts barely covered as her heart slammed into her chest. “Holy Jupiter, I gave you enough tranq to down an elephant. Why are you still awake?”

He shook his head like a rabid dog. Suddenly, she was glad of the scarce lighting—not wanting to see in his eyes what he was planning to do to her. “No. No, if I am going out, you’ll be here when I wake up.”

He clasped her wrist and stood, dragging her over to his bag in the corner. He stumbled, and for a blessed moment she thought he was going down. Then he righted himself and dragged her across the floor like a rag doll.
When she saw the current-cuffs, she renewed her efforts to fight. There was no way handcuffing her would work out in her favor. “Help. Help!”

“Scream all you want. There’s no one here that’s going to save you.” Even in the graying shadows she could see his wicked smile.

Everything happened so fast. A cuff was slapped on her wrist, the other end to his. “That should keep you,” he growled.

She was sprawled out on the floor, arm at an awkward angle, spacesuit surrendering any attempts at decency. “My God, was there even tranquilizer in that pen?”

“Apparently not, Princess. I feel fine.” He took a step, then stilled. His body swayed, one arm out for balance. Mya had about two seconds to get up and push him in the direction of the bed. She had no intention of getting crushed underneath two hundred-plus pounds of unconscious man.

She’d once watched a logger take down a huge pine that had the misfortune of being in the path of Prince Sar’s new swimming pool. When the tree fell, the whole ground shook with the vibration. Watching him fall, Mya felt sorry for the bed.

The momentum of his fall propelled her forward, and she ended face down, half on the bed and half off. It was two full minutes of stilted breathing and silent praying before she was positive he was out. She was going to issue a strongly worded complaint to whoever defined the word immediate in the tranq-pen advertisement.

She pushed her sweat-dampened hair out of her eyes, shoved her breasts back into her suit and zipped back up. With dignity resorted, Mya surveyed her predicament.

Oh Saturn’s rings, she was so screwed.

She needed to think, and being face down in the bed wasn’t helping. After much grunting and shoving, she got the man on his back.

“Lights,” she called out.

Nothing happened. She did a mental eye roll. Of course, the room would be programed to respond to his voice. Instead, she scrambled, with some difficulty, to the side of the bed where the manual controls were located.
The room lightened gradually. She sat on the bed, suddenly exhausted.

Mya looked down at the current-cuffs that attached them together. She didn't have a lot of experience with cuffs. Okay, none at all, really, but she did know that they required the owner’s thumb print in order to open them. Easy enough, him being unconscious and all. She searched for the thumb sensor and swore. The thumb print would've worked if, of course, they'd been remotely modern. Instead, these current-cuffs were archaic, needing a pin code to break the electrical charge that kept them together.

Mya let her head fall into her hands and then glanced at the man passed out cold beside her. Curiosity and a pang of familiarity had her studying his features more closely. The shape of his lips had her remembering someone else’s face. Someone she’d known in a different place. In a place where fondness clouded her memories and a sense of happiness curled her lips. With a finger, she brushed his hair out of his eyes and gasped.

She knew those eyes, that line of a jaw, the profile of a strong roman nose. He was a tad bit older and more than a tad bit rougher around the edges, but there was no mistake.

It was him. The man she’d been in love with since she'd been eleven years old.

The nerve of him.

She balled her fist and punched the padded post with all her might. It made a thumping sound but didn’t waiver. Sweat dripped from her scalp and down her face. Her clean clothes were damp and beginning to cling to her body. While the morning sun wasn’t yet high in the sky, without proper shade there was no relief from it.

She made a quick turn and smacked the post with the back of her hand with a grunt. She could hit the thing as hard as she could and didn’t have to worry about it bending or breaking, especially since Kiehle used this very post for training. A bead of sweat rolled down her forehead to her eyelid. Using her shoulder, she wiped the sweat away and peered up at the sky. She couldn’t even guess what time it was. She had no clue how time was tracked on this planet. All she knew was that it was early. Everyone was still sleep—even Kiehle.

At the thought of him, she leaned to the side, brought her leg up and thrust her foot out to kick the post. She’d been hitting and kicking since she’d gotten up. Well, since the sun had come up. She hadn’t slept a wink last night.

All because of him.

While Yoshi and Max had slept soundlessly, she’d tossed and turned. Unable to keep her eyes closed, she’d spent most of the night staring at the ceiling.

She grunted and punched the post again. Her fist made a dull sound as it hit the padding that covered the wood.

She’d done the right thing, shutting the door on him. She smiled to herself, thinking about how his face must’ve looked.

She spun and landed an elbow, pretending it was his face.

That’s what he gets. Assuming I’ll want to fuck him.

She bobbed and weaved, pretending she was avoiding his outstretched hands.

Grabby hands.

Then, with a left uppercut, she hit the post where she assumed his chin would be.

Knockout.

The only reason she’d had sex with him in the first place was to plot her way to freedom. Well, maybe not the first time. The first time she had wanted too. But the second time was definitely to plan her escape.

She brought her hands up to shield her face and bent her knee, bringing it back. Then with a fierce cry, she kicked out, landing the bottom of her foot where she pretended his kneecap was.

I’ll cripple him if he bothers me again.

When she’d finally gotten up this morning, the house had been quiet. She’d peeled Yoshi’s leg from across her stomach and Max’s arm from around her neck. Although the bed could easily sleep six, they’d both stuck to her side as though still in her small bed from the brothel. She’d retrieved her clothes from the washer and tiptoed to his closed door to listen. She thought she’d heard him stir inside but when she listened more, she didn’t hear anything else.

She’d rested her hand on the door, trying to decide if she should push it open and go to him. All that stood between her and the possibility of riding him like a cowgirl was a door.

One that she would not open.

Instead, she’d dressed and left the house, hoping a few laps around the structure would tire her out. That’s when she’d come across what looked like a workout area. Exactly what she needed to get rid of all the pent-up energy that overwhelmed her.

She spun and hit the post with her elbow.

Asshole.

“Do you mind if I join you?”

Startled, she turned to see Kiehle sauntering in her direction. Or prowling in her direction. Whenever he walked toward her, she got the feeling he was stalking his prey.

She took deep breaths. Her chest heaved. “Can I say no?”

“No.”

She flicked her hand in the air. “Then I guess I don’t have a choice.”

He pulled his shirt over his head. His perfectly chiseled chest and arms glistened under the sun. He began to stretch out the muscles in his upper body, over-exaggerating his movements. “Mmm, I need a good stretch.”

Is he moaning?

Her body immediately went soft at the sounds.

He closed his eyes and straightened his arms up to the sky, making his muscles ripple, and moaned again. Her mouth watered as her eyes roamed his chest, his nipples, his stomach and the happy trail of hair that ran from his chest to his waistband.

“That’s it,” he groaned. “My muscles are so tight.”

She tilted her head to the side. His body… I can touch it.

A bead of sweat formed below her nose and rolled over her lips. She licked it away. I would love to lick him.

Wait? What am I doing? Ogling him again. Holy hell.

Flustered at being mesmerized by him, yet again, she turned and focused her attention back on the post and practiced fighting combinations. Not giving in to the temptation to turn and watch him more.

From the corner of her eye, she saw him crouch low to stretch his thighs. The material of his pants stuck to every fine muscular line.

Even outlining his…

She gave her head a light shake. There’s no need to focus on that…that…monstrous thing.

She eyed the post and focused hard. Left, right, cross and duck. Left, right, cross and duck. As he finally walked over to her, she mentally repeated the words, trying to drown out the other voices in her head. The voices that whispered how delicious he looked…that begged her to let him crush her under his weight.

By the time he stood a foot away, the chant sounded more like, Left! Right! Cross! And duck! Left! Right! Cross! And duck!

He moved to her side and assumed a fighting stance, crouching low with his arms out, his smoldering lavender eyes trained on her. His face was framed by thick dark hair that hung a little past his shoulders. Good gracious, he was gorgeous.

She gave him a look of indifference. “We’re sparring?”

“Unless you think I might be too much for you to handle.”

He didn’t know what he was walking into. She’d spent the morning thinking of ways to knock him on his back—and not the way he was probably thinking of now.

She twisted her hair into a knot on the back of her head. He didn’t make a move to do anything with his. Hanging loose, it made him look primal…dangerous…sexy.

Shit.

She narrowed her gaze. He must think that every female around him should swoon like a schoolgirl. He really didn’t need to take off his shirt to advertise his perfect body and that stretching performance had been way over the top. Now his hair was blowing around his face as if he were some kind of alien Fabio.

She looked around. Where the hell is all this wind coming from? “Are you planning to tie back your hair?” she asked, trying her best to sound annoyed—not aroused.

“I had not planned to.” Smiling, he added, “Unless you find it too distracting.”
