Return of the Wolfe by Nancy Fraser

Today we welcome author Nancy Fraser back to the blog! Today you can check out an excerpt from her contemporary romance Return of the Wolfe! Then be sure to follow the rest of the tour for more and let her know what you think along the way. Plus you get extra chances to enter the great giveaway!

Ever since she was a teenager, Sarah Tremayne wanted one thing and one thing only—to be a park ranger at Big Bear National Park in Bear Lake, Wisconsin. Her dream was always to work along side her ranger brother, Brent, and be the first brother-sister team in department history.

Matthew Wolfe is also a ranger and Brent’s best friend. He tolerated Sarah when she was a gangly teen following him around the park like a lost puppy. However, as Sarah blossomed so did his desire.

Just as they’re exploring their mutual attraction, a tragic accident pulls them apart.

Four years have passed and Matthew is returning to Big Bear as the man in charge. Will he and Sarah be able to mend their ragged fences and rediscover what they once had? Or, will Sarah’s pain and anger force her away from Big Bear, and Matt, forever?

Read an excerpt:
Matt wanted to touch her, shake her, make her understand. He wanted to protest, to yell, to demand she stay and talk to him, but he knew he lacked the inner strength necessary to carry out the actions; to upset her even more.

"Yes, Ranger Tremayne," he said finally, "you're excused."

She nodded. "Thank you." She took two steps toward the door and then turned back. "Sir?"

His gaze lifted to hers. "Yes, Sarah?"

"I submitted a transfer request day before yesterday. I'd appreciate it if you could attend to it as soon as possible."

He studied her expression, hoping to see some emotion, some signal that would tell him she wasn't serious. Instead, he saw only anger and pain. Her hands were still clenched at her sides, her lips still pursed tightly no doubt in an effort to arrest the telltale trembling. Her pulse fluttered erratically beneath the smooth line of her throat. With each heartbeat he imagined her tears came closer to falling with nothing more than her hatred keeping them in check.

A searing flash of remorse jolted his body centered directly around his heart. His response to her request was slow in coming, drawn out by the magnitude of his pain. "If that's what you want, Sarah."

He watched her carefully, hoping for some show of regret, some possible sign of forgiveness. She only nodded and moved through the door and into the hallway.

How could he possibly make up for all the pain he had caused her? Would Sarah ever trust and care for him again?

Or, was returning to Big Bear the biggest mistake of his life?

If her husband is rotting in hell, then who is the man standing in front of her with a dead man’s face?

She has a story to tell. He has a mystery to solve. In the midst of danger, passion sizzles between them, taking them by surprise. What will happen when all is brought to light? Reading His Submissive

Raven:

I’ve spent my life depending on one person: myself. I’ve learned the hard way other people will only let me down. I’ve worked for everything I have, but thanks to my drug-addicted mother, I’m about to lose the one thing I’ve craved for years. Needing to make some extra cash, I ask my boss at Restrained Fantasies, a Dallas BDSM club, for some extra shifts. Much to my chagrin, Master Carter Burkes is with him, and Carter leaps to my rescue, bound and determined to save me—only I’m not the kind of girl who needs to be saved.

Carter:

I can’t sit by while Raven, a recurring figure in my fantasies, is in trouble. My job as a detective keeps me busy, but I’m not looking for a relationship, just a sub to assist with a class I’m teaching: Reading Your Submissive. Raven always claimed she wasn’t a member of the lifestyle, so imagine my surprise when I discover a budding submissive inside her. She gets under my skin in ways I can’t fight, but emotions are dangerous. I learned that the hard way. Is getting close to Raven a mistake? Will I destroy her life like I destroyed the life of the only woman I’ve ever loved?

This is book two in the Restrained Fantasies series but can be read as a standalone.

Publisher’s Note: This romance is intended for adults only. It contains elements of danger, suspense, mystery, BDSM, sensual scenes, romance and adult language. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.

Read an excerpt:

Raven punched the elevator button and waited for the doors to open. Damn her fucking mother. Damn her, damn her, damn her. Ten thousand dollars. How the hell was Raven supposed to come up with that kind of money by the end of the month?

Who fucking screwed over their own child this way?

She fisted her hands at her side and fought the urge to punch more than the elevator button. Taking out another loan or getting new credit cards with credit limits large enough to help was out of the question. She was over-extended as it was; served her right for trying to help the bitch in the first place. After helping her mom out with attorney fees and bail after her last arrest, Raven had been left holding the bag. She still couldn’t believe her mom had skipped on bail. Again. And crazier still, Raven didn’t know why she’d bothered helping in the first place. That had been her first—twentieth?—mistake.

Meth was slowly destroying Raven’s life, and she’d never touched the stuff.

The elevator doors slid open, and Viv Michaels strutted through. Viv was the boss’ sub and the love of his life. She was a sweet, vivacious woman Raven had come to like a lot.

Viv was dressed in her usual club fare. Black fuck-me boots, red miniskirt, and a matching leather corset which barely contained her ample breasts. She was the boss’ perfect match in every way—and it made Raven a whole lot envious. She’d never trusted anyone enough to let them in, let alone have what Viv and the boss had.

Viv’s lips curved into a friendly smile. “Hey, Raven. How’re you?”

Raven forced herself to return the other woman’s smile. “I’m good.”

Viv’s gaze sharpened. “You sure? You look… upset.”

Just having a bit of a tough time today, but everything will work itself out. It always does.” More likely it won’t. It never did.

Over the years, she’d gotten damn good at lying about her emotions or redirecting the conversation, so with luck, Viv would take the near-lie at face value and move on. Because this problem wouldn’t work itself out. She might as well face reality and get used to it.

She’d be homeless by the end of the month. Viv placed her hand on Raven’s arm and gave it a reassuring squeeze.

Okay. Just know I’m here if you need to talk.”

The offer warmed Raven. Part of her acknowledged the impulse to accept Viv’s offer, hug her close, and let the tears come. The other part, however, the stronger part, reminded her trusting another person only ended in disaster. She’d had enough tragedies in her life already. The only person she could depend on was herself.

I’ll keep your offer in mind,” Raven lied.

Good.” Viv flashed another smile and then headed toward the boss’ office. She seemed so sweet and sincere. Maybe, if Raven was very lucky, she could trust Viv.

Yeah, and maybe someday, Raven would have more than two fond memories of her mother.

Raven stepped onto the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor. She still needed to go home before her regular shift. She’d come straight from the bank, and she wasn’t exactly dressed for—

Hey, Raven, wait up!” Someone forced their arm through the sliding doors and kept them from closing. When they opened again, she found herself staring at the handsome face of Carter Burkes. And her libido jumped to immediate attention; it usually did when he was around.

The sexy cop might be close to ten years her senior, but he wore his age like a badge of honor. Defined biceps and triceps bulged from the sleeves of his black T-shirt. The cotton stretched over his trim torso in all the right places, and his leather pants did little to cover the contour of muscular legs she’d admired more than once in the club.

A few strands of gray decorated the hair at his temples; otherwise, the perfectly messy brown locks appeared thick and lush. More than once, she’d had to squash the temptation to bury her fingers into the strands just to see if they were as soft as she’d imagined.

A day’s worth of growth covered his cheeks and square jawline. And damn those dimples. Why’d they have to amp his fuckability to stupid levels? Didn’t she have enough shit to worry about?

EXCERPT

When I got downstairs to the dining room, Glenn and Wade were already there, speaking to each other in hushed tones by the large window. There were shiny plates on the table, with all sorts of silverware around them. Start from the outside and work your way in, was what I was told when it came to using the various forks and spoons. Give me just one of each and I’d be happy.

It wasn’t long before Glenn noticed me at the door and the conversation ceased. “Emma, you look lovely tonight,” he announced.

I smiled. “Thank you.”

He beckoned me over to the table and Wade held out a seat for me. I sat down and he took the one on the right, while Glenn sat on my left at the head of the table. There was only one other place setting and it was across from me.

“Wine?” Glenn asked, holding up the bottle.

I nodded. “Sure.”

He poured me a glass and I took a sip. It tasted like heaven, all fruity and crisp. It was so good I had to take another sip, and another, while we waited on the special guest. Not even a minute later, the dining room door opened and a man walked in. Only, he wasn’t just anyone.

It’d been eight years and he’d surely changed, but there was no mistaking those gray eyes. His hair was the same light brown, and mussed up like all the guys did their hair these days. However, his body looked totally different. His cream colored, long-sleeve sweater hugged a set of muscular arms, and his face was more rugged, covered in a five o’clock shadow.

I almost choked on my wine. “Oh my God.” Is it really him?

“Emma, are you okay?” Wade asked, his voice low.

“Yeah,” I whispered. “I’m fine.”

I waited for Preston to look at the table, and when his gaze finally caught mine, he paused for a slight second. In his face, I could see the friend I lost so long ago, but it vanished quickly.

Glenn and Wade both stood when Preston approached, and I shot up out of my seat, bumping the table with my jerky movements. Glenn grinned at me and then at Preston. “Preston Hale, I’d like you to meet Emma Turner. She’s my assistant. Emma, this is Preston Hale, a close family friend. His father is one of my dearest friends.”

Preston held out his hand and looked at me as if he’d never laid eyes on me before. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Was he being serious? I shook his hand and made sure to put a little extra squeeze in there for good measure. “Meet me? Surely, you remember who I am.”

Glenn’s eyes went wide. “Wait. You two already know each other?”

I nodded. “From college.” I was about to add before he up and left without a trace, but thought better of it.

Glenn chuckled and smacked a hand on Preston’s shoulder. “Well, isn’t this a small world? You’ll have to tell me some stories on this one.” He nodded my way.

Preston’s jaw clenched. “Can’t. Don’t remember her.”

My mouth dropped open; it was like being punched in the gut and slapped in the face, all at the same time. No words would come out, so I sat there with a lump in my throat. In college, he’d been a close friend. I sang with him in his band, Silent Break. We connected on stage in a way I’d never felt with anyone. I cared about him, and had even been ready to take the next step in our relationship right before he up and disappeared. I never got to tell him how I felt. Now he looked at me as if I was a stranger.

The room fell silent. I wanted to say something, but I bit my tongue. It was going to be the longest dinner of my life.

Excerpt

Her hands are trying to grasp me to roll me over again and get her on top, but I’m not letting her get close. Instead, I pin her to the floor and fuck her even harder. She opens her legs even farther and moans when I take her nipple between my teeth and tug.

I know she likes what I do … but she can’t help always trying to be at the top.

It’s what we do.

Who we are.

Fighters.

Winners.

Conquerors.

And in each other, we’ve found our match.

Her hand reaches between her legs, and she furiously starts masturbating as I fuck her pussy raw. She’s so tight and wet that I lose control, and I close my eyes for just a second to enjoy the sensations.

Only to find me rolling around again and having her end up on top of me. She slams me down on the floor and holds my hand down harder as she swivels around on my cock. She brings her blood-soaked finger to my mouth and makes me suck on it. One of my hands is free, and I use it to flick her clit, making her moan out loud.

A few seconds later, her eyes roll into the back of her head, and I can feel her muscles tighten all around me. Wetness coats my cock, and I come undone.

Howling, I come inside her, my seed pulsing deep into her pussy, just like it should.

She holds my hand in place over her clit, as if to signify that it belongs there. That she’s not only mine, but that I’m also hers.

Breathing heavily, she slowly falls down on top of me, my cock still inside her. She rests her head on my chest, and I listen to her breaths as she listens to my heart. I pet her hair, which is still slick from blood and sweat, and I wonder if this is the best sex I’ve had in my entire life.

“Is it over now?” she mutters suddenly.

I smile as she lifts her head with a curious look on her face. “Yes, it is … and you won.”

Read an excerpt:
The crew loaded up on new supplies and made repairs after coming through the previous storm, leaving part of the rudder of the ship unusable. The extent of the damage extended their time on the Canary Islands for a week due to repairs.
Back out at sea, the voyage continued smoothly. The day was clear and blue. The birds were out flying high above the ship, and the dolphins escorted the Lady Fantasy into the depths of the ocean.
A great day to be at sea.
David paced up and down the deck, checking his list to make sure his crew were on task with their duties. As he per-formed his inspections, the sky filled with dark clouds turning gray and his ship rolled into a dense cover of fog. The ship shifted course on its own, steering itself into the path of the thick fog. David barked orders for his crew.
“Get this ship back on course, and watch out for the rocks!” he yelled.
As soon as the fog appeared, it dissipated, disappearing in-to thin air revealing an island with jagged rocks on the beaches surrounding it. As the ship came into the lagoon, one of the sailors pointed at a figure off into the distance.
“Captain, over there on the rocks!”
David circled the surroundings with his binoculars, then towards the direction his crew member was pointing. Standing on the rock formation, was one of the mysterious women the old man on the Canary Islands had mentioned. David dropped his binoculars to his chest. A wave of heat closed over him.
Her long raven hair hung past her waist. She had a darker olive skin tone, a firm body, and a beautiful smile. She stared in the direction of David and his crew. The woman smiled, then lifted a horn from its resting place on her hip and blew into it. In the distance, small boats appeared out of the fog. Sweat formed on David's brow and his chin quivered. He should have warned his crew.
Before he was even able to mutter a word, two women popped their heads up from under the waves. They joined the first female in singing the trance-like song.

“You must not listen to them! Turn away from them, do not listen to their songs. They will lure you to their shores!” David screamed frantically.
His words did not help. Two members of his crew slipped off their pants and shoes and dived overboard. The women riding the waves in the water clutched their shirts and led them back to the shore. A third sailor bent over the side of the ship. He reached his hand out to one of the remaining women. She took his hand, yanking him into the water.
Without warning, the ship shifted to the left. One of the sailors had cut the anchor restraints dropping it into the bay, diving into the water after one of the women signaled to him. The ship lodged itself up on the rocks with nowhere to go. Raven heads appeared at the top of the deck, and their bodies followed after. The ship had been boarded. The women continued to sing their hypnotizing songs luring more of the sail-ors to follow them back to the island.
David dodged around in horror; most of the men had been taken. When the women had their fill of sailors to leave with them, their songs quieted, and they retreated from the ship leaving David with a handful of men.
