Review of The Karma Book Club (The Club Series #2) by Kayley Wood

The Karma Book Club

How does a bad boy finally fall in love? It all begins with a Karma Book, a red couch, a banana costume, and a princess dress...

Escape into the hilarious, feel-good rom-com that will leave you smiling until the very end.

“Kayley Wood mastered comedy romance in The Karma Book Club.” - Jo Jo Maxson - 5 Stars

“This book had me laughing out loud, along with experiencing many heartfelt emotions throughout this grand slam of a story!” - Chick Lit CafĂ© - 5 Stars

“Loved this book from start to end. It made me laugh, it was cute and sweet. The perfect book to get lost in.” - Jessica - 5 Stars

“I just want to gush on how much I loved The Karma Book Club by Kayley Wood... If you are a fan of R.S. Grey you definitely need to get it!” - Kari Valdez - 5 Stars

Hilarious. Sweet. Heartfelt.

Mia never felt the need to speak up for herself. Not with three protective sisters, an assertive boyfriend, and a bestie who has no problem stealing the attention for herself. With a nervous bladder (which strikes at the worst possible times) and a terrible fear of public speaking, Mia is comfortable with the way things are.

That is, until she comes home to find her things packed by the door and faces the news that her boyfriend and best friend have fallen in love.

Now homeless and anything but comfortable, Mia’s sisters come to the rescue (as usual) by helping her land the perfect apartment—but a colossal mishap lands gorgeous bad boy Logan Miller on her doorstep with a key and a lease contract of his own.

In exchange for a free month’s stay, Logan agrees to help Mia find the voice and confidence she now desperately craves. The goal? To finally stand up for herself and give her exes what they deserve.

It’s not revenge. It’s Karma.

Mia’s one rule: No matter how charming, funny, and sexy Logan is, she cannot fall in love with him.

Logan’s one rule: No matter how adorable, sweet, and sexy she is, Mia is off limits.

Are some rules made to be broken, or will Logan turn out to be exactly what everyone warns her he is—a player who will only break her heart in the end?

THE KARMA BOOK CLUB is the endearing and funny second installment in the Club Series. An unputdownable New Adult Romantic Comedy full of lol moments, lovable characters, strong female bonds, and redemption at its finest. Told in dual points of view.

Although each book in the series has its own happy ending, it's best if read in order since all the characters intertwine in some way and tells a larger story as the series continues.

**My thoughts**
I was preparing to read a different book when I suddenly realized that book was the third in the series. And I had been madly in love with the first one, with all intentions to keep up on this author, but had somehow missed this one. So I immediately one-clicked on this one, knowing that I was going to love it. And I really did.

At first I couldn't remember who Logan was and then just a couple of hints about his past and I mentally went flying back to the first book in the series. You're given enough background to know the gist of what he had done in the first book that has made him such an outcast in the city. And this story can stand on its own. But you're going to want to go back and read The Virgin Club to get the whole story. He definitely has different sides to his personality, one big one that of course I am not a fan of, but really is redeeming himself in this one. He knows he has screwed up. He has been dealing with all of the consequences. And really, he is worthy of getting that second chance.

I really liked Mia and just got her. She is ambitious and knows what she wants out of life, but has always had enough anxiety that she falls just short of where she would really like to be. She caves when the situation gets tough. Or more accurately, her bladder exacerbates the anxiety and makes her have to run off. But now she has been screwed over by her boyfriend and best friend (now both exes of said titles). That seems to be her tipping point. She doesn't realize it, but she is ready to get out there now and kick butt and take names. She just needs a little motivation, and not just from her sisters.

So her meet cute with Logan, as they were both promised the same apartment by two different siblings, ends up being a blessing in disguise. Logan wants to be a motivational speaker. Mia needs motivation. Logan needs someone to give him a second chance and to see the real him. Mia is able to look past his faults and see the real Logan. They are able to challenge each other as they are working to repair the shambles their lives had turned into. And of course, they have to be attracted to each other. How could they not? They're just right for each other.

And then there are the lessons about the problems of getting revenge and how karma does have its way with people. I think a lot of people today need a reminder about those two areas. Bonus points for all of the inspirational Eleanor Roosevelt quotes. I was taking notes.

So again, I found myself laughing out loud and maybe even getting a hint of moisture in my eyes while reading this one. I read the whole thing in one evening, actually getting annoyed when life would cause me to have to pause for a moment here and there. And I've made sure that my Kindle is filled now with the rest of the series, which I am going to go read right now, because I am getting addicted to this sweet romcom series!

From Maid to Duchess

Lady Evelyn’s life changed when her mother died and her step-mother Lady Cecilia entered her life. Still everything became worse when her father died leaving them in poverty. Her wicked step-mother decided to use Evelyn as a servant in their household. Evelyn was resigned to her fate and was just happy that she at least had her step-sister Lady Jane in her life. Until she met the Duke of Langley and spoke to him in the shadows.

The Duke of Langley, Julien had no desire to remarry after his first wife jumped to her death from the balcony of their home. However, after losing the third governess for his children, his mother convinced him that finding himself a mother for his twins would be better…More permanent. Set out to find such a woman to act in the sole capacity of mother and nothing more, Julien found the perfect woman. Only she was a servant, way beneath him for marriage. And there was another huge problem— he had feelings for her. He did not want feelings in the equation.

Against the machinations of one wicked step-mother and an unfeeling mother; with expectations of marriage without love, would this maid be the next Duchess of Langley?

“You don’t have to help.”
“I want to.” Jason stands next to me as I wash the plates and he dries them for me. “I know I kinda showed up here and interrupted your dinner. Sorry about that.”
“Kinda showed up? More like you did show up,” I tease.
“Potato, potahto. But, I can’t stop thinking about you. This isn’t a line I grabbed from some cheesy movie. I know, I know, I don’t even know you,” he chuckles when I raise an eyebrow. “But I’ve seen enough to know I want to. I want to help you discover what your dreams are and watch you offer your daughter the best life she can have.”
“It’s complicated with her around. She already expects to see you everyday, and this is only the third time she’s seen you. I always thought if I ever met someone, and that was a big if, I’d get to know the man really well first, before introducing him to my daughter. This is backwards. It’s almost as if she’s gotten to know you before I have. It’s confusing for her.”
“So let me get to know you.” He angles his body toward me. “Let me show you who I am. It’s easy with her because she came right up to me, offered me a cookie, and started talking as if I was her best friend. I guess kids are less guarded in that sense.” He casts his eyes down a moment. I place my hand over his.
“They’ve got it easy, don’t they?” I ask him, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yup.” Jason continues drying the plate he was working on.
I’m not the only one with a past.

**My thoughts**
I just love Bonnie R. Paulson. She has a knack for making genres I don't typically read into something I can devour in just a matter of hours. This series is no exception, as I don't typically read Western romance.

This book tells Sara Beth's story, several months after we leave her and her sister Rosie in the previous installment. Sara Beth is now an adult, and understandably wants to forge her own path in life. She feels stifled by Rosie and Michael. But her impulsivity creates a dangerous situation from which she is lucky to have survived.

There is that survival piece again. Sara Beth survived her accident. Now she must learn to survive her life as it is. She must learn to survive the new rules, to survive the expectations of Rosie and Michael, to survive her own thoughts and desires. Johnny is the perfect person to help her with this. I even ended up with a bit of a crush on him, myself. He has screwed up in his own past, but truly has a heart of gold.

I love seeing Sara Beth come into her own, especially considering her past. I was disappointed with Rosie's behavior in this one, but also realize that her actions are being shown through the filter of a younger sister's eyes. Rosie still is learning a lot about life and shows a lot of growth in this book, in addition to everything she went through in the first installment.

There are also new characters introduced, who are going to change the sisters' lives forever, but in a good way. Each one of these is going to have her own story, and I look forward to learning more about each of them.

These books are a fast read, but a pleasurable way to pass the time, especially during this super cold winter. Like I said, even if you are not a fan of Western romance, I think you will enjoy this one. You don't necessarily have to read the first one, but you will want to, to better understand the girls' stories.

Facing a life of prostitution or homelessness, Rosie Scott must make a choice centered on keeping her and her sister safe in the wilds of an unforgiving Montana land. With their background, the two girls need a fresh start. In Colby, Montana opportunities are as thick as needles on a pine tree. Savvy and independent, Rosie decides to take a chance and start a business, earning her the respect of many town residents.

She catches the eye of two men. One interested in exploiting her past and one interested in redeeming her heart.

But Rosie’s secrets and who she really is shadow her hopes for happiness. Can a man love her most when her past refuses to leave?

**My thoughts**
Western romance? Not my thing. Bonnie R. Paulson wrote it? Okay, I will give it a shot.

Hook, line, and sinker.

Paulson is one of my favorite authors, because she can always take a genre in which I am not highly interested and turn it into a book that I can't put down.

I admit that at first, I thought this was also a historical romance, because Rosie and her sister are currently residing at a brothel, after being dumped there by their father who is part of a gang of thugs terrorizing the area. After a while, I did finally figure out that it was a pretty modern story.

I admire Rosie's determination to save herself and her sister, to prove to the world that they are good people. I understand her difficulty trusting anyone else. I admire her work ethic. And I have to love Michael, who seems to bring out the best in her.

Yet another story of survival, Rosie shows that you don't have to give in to the environment in which you were raised. You don't have to adhere to the genes raging through your body. You can find your own path in life and become your own person, if you CHOOSE to do so. You can fight hard to prove the naysayers wrong. It won't be an easy road, but it will happen. When you fight, the reward will be to your benefit.

Another fast, great read from Paulson, with more coming in this series. I look forward to them all.

BonnieBonnie R. Paulson mixes her science and medical background with reality and possibilities to make even myths seem likely and give every romance the genetic strength to survive. Bonnie has discovered a dark and twisty turn in her writing that she hopes you enjoy as much as she has enjoyed uncovering it. Dirt biking with her family in the Northwest keeps her sane.
