The Mage Heir

Traitor: that’s what Tatsu is now. On the run from both Runon and Chayd, Tatsu and Yudai’s only hope for survival is to disappear into the wilds. However, when the siphon’s deadly curse returns, they have no choice but to travel into the desert kingdom of Joesar in search of a cure.

Battling the unforgiving elements of the sands, Tatsu starts to realize that the path towards destroying the siphon may claim Yudai’s life. Time is running out as Nota’s fury—and the siphon’s hunger—begin to spiral wildly beyond their control.

As their options slowly fall away, the only thing Tatsu and Yudai can count on is each other.

Tatsu didn’t mind sleeping under the leaves, but Yudai’s agitation seemed to grow as the sky darkened. He paced back and forth between two ancient tree trunks with his hands clasped behind his back, over and over, until the stars came out.
“You’re going to have to sleep eventually,” Tatsu pointed out, voice mild, once the moon was high overhead. It earned him a growl in reply. “Please just sit down.”
“This clearing will be dead by morning,” Yudai snapped. When he turned to retrace his steps again, Tatsu could see the twist of his fingers clenched together in tight fists.
“You can’t do anything about it, so there’s no point in blaming yourself. It’s probably just making the whole thing worse.”
The look Yudai threw him was dubious at best, but evidently, the possibility was difficult to ignore. Yudai eventually settled himself down between two patches of yellow-green weeds, and he ran his finger over his lip a few times before his eyes flickered up towards Tatsu. “Distract me.”
“You could ask nicely,” Tatsu said.
One corner of Yudai’s mouth quirked upward. “I could,” he agreed, and said nothing more.
“Did you know that my mother had other children?”
Yudai blinked and sat back, face slackening. “Good distraction."

With her father’s Dublin theater in ruins and her sister’s illness growing worse, she’s the only person who can save her family from the gutter. As much as she enjoys the occasional passing dalliance, being the primary breadwinner of her Irish family means either marrying well or not at all.

Dr. Joseph Moorland knows it’s wrong to dress in disguise to hobnob with London’s high society, but he figures one night would do no harm—until he meets the charming and mysterious novelist, Audrey Byrnes. Too poor to marry, he hides his real identity until an accident reveals the truth, and what started as a mild flirtation turns to a complex game of secrets, passion, and desire.

Thrown together by circumstance, Audrey and Joseph find themselves in a tense alliance as they try to crawl their way up from their humble beginnings and into the highest echelons of the ton. But when one of the most formidable political players in London sets his sights on having Audrey for himself, she has to choose between saving her family from charges of treason or losing the man she loves forever.

When she’s not staring out the window and dreaming up stories, she can be found trying out new Thai recipes, drinking wine with her girlfriends, or hiking through the woods with her husband and two children.

Read an excerpt from 'Eighty-Eight Keys' by Catherine Lavender

Title: Eighty-Eight Keys
Author: Catherine Lavender
Genre: Romance/Suspense
Leah is a young woman who is trying to break free from a strict religious background and pursue her dream as a pianist in the world of show business. While trying to find her independence her heart is held captive by Jason Rowe a local basketball star who established an organization to help troubled youth. When Jason is found murdered in his home, Leah is determined to get answers from a closed investigation. During her state of emotional turmoil, Leah finds comfort not only in the melody of her music, but in the arms of a married man named Calvin. With her dreams at her fingertips, Leah is tangled in a web of lies and deceit. Despite the fear of learning the truth, Leah has to realize that only the truth can set her free.

A dead lover, with a trail of broken hearts...
A married man, with a double-life...
A dream chaser, with a killer at her heels...
A piano, with eighty-eight keys...

Read an excerpt:

After tossing and turning all night with dreams of being chased by a shadow, Leah woke up with a determination to get some answers. The police didn’t seem to be taking Jason’s murder seriously, but someone should.
Throwing on her running shoes, the plan was simple. Go for a leisurely jog around Bright Horizons and sneak into the building to snoop around Jason’s office. She continued to roll the idea around in her mind as she jogged, preparing for unforeseen circumstances. After being dismissed by Mrs. Turner, Leah wanted answers, and this was as good a plan as any to get them.
What she did not count on was Coach Turner sitting on a bench in front of the Bright Horizons building. Slowing her gait, she debated running past him. Maybe he wouldn’t notice her.
The man’s eyes looked up as she approached and he smiled brightly. “Leah? Is that you?”
She nodded as her heart sank. “Hi, Mr. Turner. What are you doing out here?”
With a large shrug, the man looked forward, but didn’t seem to be registering what he was seeing. “I was just thinking about life and how incredibly unexpected it is.” He slid over a bit and patted the bench next to him. “Here, come, sit.”
Leah grudgingly obliged. She didn’t know the university coach well, but something about his demeanor indicated that he needed an ear.
“How are you feeling?”
Unconsciously rubbing the back of her head, Leah chuckled. “I’m doing fine, thank you.”
“Jason was an idiot for not marrying you. I told him that too.”
She blushed with embarrassment. “Well, thank you for the vote of confidence.”
“He was a stubborn man, that’s what made him a success,” the coach began. She could see him pulling inward. “Jason was the best ball player I coached, and likable.” He let out a whoosh of air. “He had a way of charming people into giving him what he wanted.” Coach gave Leah a wink. “Of course, I don’t need to tell you that now, do I?”
“No, sir,” she agreed slowly, wondering how to tactfully extract herself from the conversation.
“Out of everyone on the team, Jason was the most successful. Knew how to play his cards right. Not that you would understand the politics of university coaching, Leah, but Jason had a gift.” He gave her a sympathetic smile before continuing. “It is a big responsibility to coach, to carry the weight of a school’s reputation squarely on your shoulders. Not a lot of people understand that.” He patted her hand lightly. “You have to earn respect and trust. People have to love you, believe in you.”
Leah sat in the silence, unsure as to whether she should say something or not. “I can see that,” she finally offered.
He continued as if he hadn’t heard her. “Being married to the mayor’s sister does have its advantages, but my first responsibility is to my players. I found it best to ignore what everyone else told me to do and trust my gut.”
“That is always a good plan.” She spotted a family coming out of Bright Horizons. The boy looked familiar. With a small stomach flip, she realized it was Calvin’s little boy. He looked just like his daddy.
It had never occurred to Leah to ask Calvin about his past relationships. Was this the little boy’s mother? She watched the weary-looking woman referee the two children.
“Fine, I’ll settle this now,” the woman said with a chuckle. “No one will be watching TV until after dinner. Now Tyler, stop picking on your sister.”
That got Leah’s attention. Calvin had never mentioned a daughter before. Come to think of it, Calvin never really talked about his life.
“Mommy” The little girl stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. Her eyes were very serious. “Will Daddy be home for dinner tonight?”
Leah’s heart clenched with sadness for the little girl. She knew she should turn away, but could not bring herself to do it. Was Calvin still married? A slow, sick churn developed in her stomach.
Sadness crossed the mother’s face, but was quickly replaced by resignation. “I couldn’t tell you, Sweet Pea.” She cupped her daughter’s chin. “We’ll just wait and see, okay?”
She watched the little family climb into their car, get safely buckled in, and drive away, all while her mind was trying to conjure up every conversation she had with Calvin. Was there something she had missed? Some important piece of the puzzle to indicate he was still married? The buzzing noise in her ear began to form words and Leah realized that Coach Turner was still talking to her.
“It is time to pass the torch on to someone else,” he said without realizing he had lost his audience. “To someone who will teach the fundamentals, but also inspire the love and passion for the game. Even after Jason graduated, he still held onto his passion. That is what I am looking for in my predecessor.”
“Your what?” Leah finally caught up with the conversation.
“My predecessor, I’m retiring.” He nodded sadly. “It’s being announced at the gala.”

* * *

Binoculars were slowly lowered, with a soft tsk. “Leah, what are you doing here?” the voice whispered. A slight frown crossed the face of the onlooker. Leah was going to be tricky. Why was she over on this side of town? She had been dismissed. There was no need for her to be here, unless…
Raising the binoculars, the observer noted the jogging shoes and running attire worn by Leah. “Ah,” said the voice, “clever ruse.” But thoughts swirled to the papers Leah almost found. The papers were safely tucked away, never to see the light of day.
“Just leave it be, Leah,” the voice whispered. “Or else you will find yourself buried next to your precious Jason.”

'The Promise' by Kim Carmichael Release Day Party

We’re happy to celebrate the release day party for “The Promise” today, a steamy paranormal romance novel by author Kim Carmichael.

Title: The Promise
Author: Kim Carmichael
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Demon Dolan Ciar exists on three simple words: desire, denial, and destruction. Every four years, he is allowed one night of earthly passion to punish a deserving female. By the time he is finished, his victims are left as willing receptacles for demons yet to come.

Since she was four, a demon has been the only constant in Leora Desmond's life. He taught her how to seize control, to never give up, and to take whatever she wanted. At twenty-four, her self-centered existence is focused on one thing. She wants Dolan, and she won't be dissuaded.

A mistake brought Dolan to Leora. A promise bound him to her. Returning once again to ask for his freedom, he is faced with Leora demanding to be his next conquest. The ultimate retribution would be to take from her the ultimate symbol of her selfishness.
Now, Dolan must decide if he can doom her to life in living hell or face his own set of unearthly consequences, while Leora must choose between her pleasure and her heart.

The Promise blurs the line between good and evil, desire and love, and promises and commitment.

Read an excerpt:
He tilted his head. "You look older."
She forced herself to blink and to remember her goal. "Then I assume I am at last old enough to be a fit for a demon." She stepped forward, stopping less than a foot away from him. The back of her throat dried out, and she swallowed.
He put his hand to his chin, his gaze taking her in. "This old song and dance. When will you use the brains you have and leave it alone?"
His words hit her, but rather than retreating, she moved closer. The energy, the tingle, the wafts of spice encompassed her and lured her toward him. "Never."
"You were smart last time. Why don't you release me so I can do what I came here for." He glanced down at her and then shifted his focus beyond her. "I have needs as well."
"Tonight I am the one you came here for." The mention of his last visit stung, but she willed herself to keep going. She ran her fingers up the buttons of his shirt. "You always told me to take control."
He shook his head. "A lesson you learned well."
She reached up and clenched his collar in her fist. "I let you go last time, but tonight I am the one you need."
He grabbed her wrist. "I spared you before. Never forget that."
She stared right into his eyes. No weakness was allowed tonight. "It's me, Dolan. Me, or you can be celibate until the decade I do you the favor of dying. I don't care about your pain." She tensed, preparing herself for his retaliation.
"I thought I taught you better than to make demands of a demon." He pressed his palm to the side of her face.
Heat radiated through her body, sending a warning to every one of her nerve endings. "A demon who comforts a child is a failure of a demon in my book."
His jaw tightened. "That was a mistake. An oversight."

Title: Love/Life: Hot in Houston
Author: Renee Curtis
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

The Hawthorne sisters have it all: beauty, wealth and all of the trappings of high society Houston. Jasen-gorgeous and smart. She's captured the heart of small town boy, Diesel. And she intends to give him more than just her heart in return! Sooner rather than later. Adrienne-the blonde bombshell. Their twenty second year will prove to be one fabulous, wild ride that will leave you wanting more. Because nothing makes Houston hotter than the Hawthorne sisters.

Read an excerpt:
Jasen walked around the marble island and offered Tori some wine.

“Red or white?”

“White.” Tori pulled out a stool and sat down. “I wanted to tell you something and hope that it is not upsetting to hear.”

“Sure. What’s up?”

“I probably should let your father tell you. But, we’ve been seeing each other… as more than friends.”

“I had kind of guessed it, actually. He was vague about his whereabouts, but PJ told me that hehad been in Fort Worth a lot the last few months. I think it’s great.”

“Great?”

“Well, yeah. Look, he and my mom haven’t been happy for a long time. I was hoping that it was you and not some twenty-something he met in a bar! That really wouldn’t work for me.”

“That means a lot to me, Jasen. I know you love your mother, but you also love your father.” “He’s happy with you. I see the twinkle in his eye when he comes home. You’re everything he ever wanted, my mom just got in the way and complicated things for you two.”

Jasen walked around and gave Tori a big hug. She really was glad that her dad was happy. Jackson still hadn’t come back and didn’t pick up when Jasen called the second time. She decided to try sending a text.

Please come back to the penthouse. I know things are bad, but do it as a favor to me. Jasen

She ran upstairs to change, too. Tori was still sitting at the bar sipping her wine with a thoughtful look on her face. Jasen hoped things worked out for them this time. Her mother would never forgive her for taking her father’s side, but she couldn’t forgive her mother for the drinking or her own indiscretions.

Jasen knew about the affair her mother had/was still probably having with Sergio. She found photos of them from her mother’s vacation in Spain last summer. She had found a whole bevy of things while looking for the firebox that held her birth certificate: receipts from places Maggie had bought him clothing, hotel rooms for Mr. and Mrs. Sergio Gomez Garcia, all paid with Maggie’s credit card that was paid with Jay’s money.

About the author:
Born and raised in Longview Texas, Renee' is the youngest of six children. She began reading at an early age, and that love has yet to fade. Her favorite book as a child was Charlotte's Web by E.B. White and as a teen The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. She later found Jackie Collins, John Grisham and more recently Olivia Cunning. Her bookshelves overflow with their well developed characters, clever, sexy, exciting story lines and beautiful locales.

Though becoming a writer was never something that she endeavored to be, it did come to her in the form of a dream. After getting encouragement from some friends in 2008, she set about writing "love/life"as a romance story for the new millennium. Four years, a divorce and a spectacular new relationship later, she finished a quasi romance/erotica story of the Hawthorne sisters and their sin-sational lives.

In her spare time, Renee' enjoys golf, movies, hanging out with friends and spending time with her family. Her all-time favorite movie is A Time to Kill starring fellow Longview alum Matthew McConnaughey. Others include Boondock Saints and all of the Daniel Craig 007 movies.

She loves music, and her Ipod is a mix of indie, alt, pop, and maybe even a country song or two (think fellow Texans Steve Earle or Pat Green). Television is a rarity, but comes in the form occasionally of BBC America's Top Gear, Duck Dynasty or the brash and funny Daniel Tosh of Tosh.0. She also lays claim to the title of #1 Dallas Star's hockey fan (just ask to see the tattoo for proof).
